Greetings!

I don't know if anyone has run into this, but it is a general hilt question...

What is the best way to secure an o-ring, if you don't have a machined groove for it to fit into?

Thanks,

Lingarn

I'd suggest glue, probably, or, if you've got a few next to one another, glue them to each other and glue them to the hilt.

That's a good idea, but what glue would you suggest that would be adherent enough without being visible?

you could make a groove with a file or any tool just draw where ya want the groove and lightly grind/file/cut a small notch into the metal and just at little superglue in th small groove would help alot

oh ab the way welcoem to the forums

That's a good idea too.

Sink tubes don't give you a lot of thickness to work with, but if the dent isn't that deep, it may work out.

Thanks for your welcome! I've actually been lurking here since November or December, but haven't had a novel question until now.

If you are "stacking" O-rings right next to each other, you can also use square O-rings on either end, to hold them in place.

That's what Zhi-Don did with his MHS hilt and it looks like it works pretty well. Though he said it was hard getting the square ones on and took a while, those have to be real tight in order to keep the other rings in place.

If you want to space them out, then I don't know. I'd probably try making some grooves in the hilt. I've seen people try to use glue and it doesn't seem to work so well. [xx(]

Steal hilt, pretty hard to groove without, going through the thin steel.

Having 1/16th grooves put in a aluminuim hilt, is the way to go.

I have not found a glue that hold longs or does not cause the rubber to crack.

Off topic: Dang then you will probably just rip me apart, and I guess I will probably be a nightmare for you. I'll apologise ahead of time JLo for the huge spelling and punctuation errors I will make........because I will, but not on purpose.

On topic: I happened to find my o-rings at Home Depot, I found a few ziplocks of 5 single packages of o-rings on the bottom of the plumbing rack of replacement o-rings. they were around $.50 per o-ring. It might have been a fluke....but I'm gonna keep goin' back and checking cause I love em.

Listen to Jedi Loreen you should! Good advice she has. Visit an ACE Hardware, find what you need, you will. They have the O rings in all sizes in nice little drawers and will always order more if they run out. In my personal opinion, they are much better than either Lowes or Home Depot. ACE has those unusual brass sink pipes as well as white and black plastic ones. They might even be able to order copper ones...sweet!
