A new way of doing armor

the papercraft way that is.

Not sure if anyone knows of the Pepakura viewer and designer but it pretty much works like this:

1. Get a 3D model of what you want (clone trooper, storm trooper, mado, astromech droid, ect...)
2. Import it into the designer and save it in their format.
3. Go into the viewer and print out the blueprints.
4. glue and tape it together to form the model
5. Stiffen it with resin, glue, bondo or what have you (bondo is used to smooth out rough corners)
5. finish it and paint it.

Not sure why you're calling this "new", unless you mean new for making Jedi armor this way. I imagine someone's tried Storm Trooper or Fett armor this way. There's a file on the Rebel Legion forums for an X-Wing helmet using this method.

And where the heck do you get 3D models of armor, anyway?

ok, so new to me.

As far as getting the models. There is one guy that does the 3d models and them makes the PDOs for sale. But that is indeed the route many take. I could possably ask around some old Blender 3D sites and see if anyone wants to tackle the project.

And where the heck do you get 3D models of armor, anyway?

Export them from the Star Wars PC games. I've done that with other games to make custom skins.

Since I started my "Sith Marauder" (I use speech marks because I'm not 100% that it is the correct title for the character) I have been checking all sorts of costuming sites for ideas and to see if anyone else has attempted this costume for reference. Along the way I have also seen how popular this papercraft method is creating helmets and armour, particularly on thedentedhelmet for the mando style helmets. Ironman is another popular Pepakura along with master chief.

There is also this website run by Skip who commisions pepakura templates as far as I understand it and he has done allsorts of cool work http://skipspepakuracostumes.blogspot.com/2008/06/pepakura-costumes.html

Some designs can be very fiddly but if you have the patience it can be very rewarding. I have no patience but I still used a Boba Fett template from WOF from thedentedhelmet.com to make the top dome on my helmet, allbeit not very well, but it gave me the rough shape I needed.

Pepakura is cool stuff.

I found skip's blog. Unfotunately, once sold to you, only you can use the pdo and cannot post it anywhere.

But yes, after seeing his blog and what can be done convinced me that this wold be the best way of doing the Old Republic jedi armor.
