Go for it! My dad was Air Force and that's how I grew up, would have been there myself if it wasn't for my damn physical issues.[:(!]

I will say that it should not be a commitment made lightly though, you will get out of it what you put in to it. The possibilities and oppertunities are unlimited.

Well heck if that's all ya got to worry about then I would say go down to the local YMCA and talk to them about the income based membership. Your fees are based on what you make. They have personal trainers and the whole shebang for workout equipment but you don't have all the problems associated with the more commercial gyms.

If it is something you want to do you can do it bro.

Go for it get the weight off and join up, I was close to doing it when I got out of high school, but the career field that I wanted was full. I have kicked myself many times because I would now be retired with my 20 years done and a nice check each month and I do whatever I liked to make some extra money.

Start running... Seriously, running is the best way to lose weight. Another good way would be to play lots of DDR.

Dance Dance Revolution...

If you can get over the fact that you are playing a dance game then it's not that bad. My sister uses it a lot and she has lost weight. I won't touch it.[:p] I'd lose weight if I didn't have asthma... makes losing weight a pain. In high school marching band helped me lose 30 pounds.

Ive been in the navy for 11 years now....probably one of the best things i have ever done.....because in 9 years i retire with a pension from the government every month for the rest of my life and cheap medical for me and my family for the rest of our lives....not to mention i will only be 40 when i retire from the military and i will continue to create another carreer and have the gov pension money comming in suplimenting my normal paycheck.....so yeah if oyu are able to drop the weight by all means join the military, whatever branch u choose(for they all have their pros and cons) make sure you research each and find which will suit u the best. I know u have ure heart probably set on AF, but at least go talk to other recuiters...i recomend u talk to the navy and coast guard also....but it is up to oyu...but do your research, and dont let them pigeonhole you into a specific MOS(job)....it is midnight here and i am very tired....forgive me father......

Edit: and the best thing ever invented for losing weight is the eliptic machine....u get almost as good a workout as running....but caters to the extra weight one may carry, and spares ones the brutal beating your knees take while running/using a tread mill. But running is the best thing to lose weight if your body can take it.

So is this like PS2 or xbox? My girls would go nuts for something like that. not so much from an exercise standpoint since I am really the only overweight person in the house but they dance wildly when I put on Radio Disney and such. that would be really cool for the family.

Xwing when I was in High School I was probally in the best shape of my life. Marching Band, Tuba Patrol. After school I had two working bands one I played guitar and one bass, messed around with soccer and footbal and did the swim team during the summer. With a heart condition, and a few other P.I.T.A. issues, I feel for you with the Asthma, I have breathing issues with the pollen and mold around here and that isn't nearly as frustrating as what you live with daily.

I know that its on Xbox for a fact... And Nintendo has a Mario version, I believe. Not too sure about PS2 though.

Also, the DDR games are a series. Theres a bunch of 'em, so when the songs get old to you, you just buy a new game. It'd actually be worth it if you like to dance, or just want to use it for exercise.

It's PS2 also.

James3, it is so much of a pain. I had a bad asthma attack over this Thanksgiving. Being away from home I became desensitized to the animals we have. I came back and bam, it hit me. Now I'm on singular and claratin daily to not have an attack.

Marching Band in HS was great for me though. It took all four years (and a couple scares of the instructors, damn near passed out a few times [:)]) before I could play and march the whole show.

Tazrob told me that Toys R' Us has a starter package (for Xbox) that includes the game and pad for $60. Considering the cost of Xbox games alone, I'd say that thats a fair deal.

I don't know about you, but I can run flat out full sprint for about 30 seconds. Then I can run farther, as long as I don't mind asphyxiation.

Xwing, key thing here. Adrenaline. Slowly speed up, get adrenaline in your system, they give you a shot full of that in an emergency. I ran full speed on a treadmill for 5 minutes that way.

Also. Xbox version of DDR allows you to add your own music.

Navy vet here. I recommend it to any and everybody. You can start yourself off, as far as your weight loss regimen, but remember, they aren't looking for perfect specimens. They'll make you into what you need to be. No joke; between the constant activity and the food (ample, diverse, and healthy), you'll be in fighting shape in no time. When I joined the Navy, I couldn't swim a lick. Uncle Sam's Big Canoe Club taught me how. Whatever you're lacking, the military will give you. All you gotta come to the table with is committment, courage, and honor. I know it sounds like a recruitment blurb, but it's serious business, protecting your country. If ya got heart, they'll give ya the rest.

You don't need to see any identification.

30 seconds of jogging is enough to make me almost blackout.[xx(] Cardio stuff just isn't worth it. The meds are what cause me gain weight really. Over the short term they make you retain water, but over a lifetime of use they cause nasty weight issues. Before my asthma appeared when I was young running was nothing and I was a skinny kid.

Anyway... enough about me.[:p] On topic.

My cousin joined the army because didn't know where he wanted to go. At this point he's ready to finish because he's still a little lost, but I think the armed forces are a great outlet. They were my option right above community college should I have needed a way to pay for college.[:D]

Ill put my two cents in here. I was 23 when I joined the Marine Corps. It wasnt the best decision I have ever made. Currently no branch of the military is making there recruting quota's. So it doesnt matter what shape you are in. If you go anywere near a recruting office they will have you signd up so fast your head will spin. They will tell you everything you want to here and nothing you dont. Its there job.

Also, the military is being alot more strict on there weight standards. I would get your body fat measured so you know were you stand. 18% is the max you can have without going on a program.

Just make sure its something you really want to do. There is some really good training you could get out of it, but it doesnt come without sacrifices. Jeff

Both my grandfathers were in the Air Force, and one of my best friends is now in the Air National Guard. It's something I would love to do for fun (flying and all), but it's not ultimately what I really want to do with my life (or think I should be doing right now or in the near future), so it probably won't end up happening.

However, if it's something you think you should do, then go for it.

Navy allows up to 21-22% body fat.

Air Force? Air Force? Son, go Army. I spent over 20 years in the Army and learned skills that make me very marketable in just about any career field. I retired as a Master Sergeant in 1996 and my son is currently in the Army serving in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division.

Aside from becoming a Soldier, a warrior, you can learn many other skills. I became a Nurse through my Army Training, got certified in multiple computer areas through my Army Training, learned about teamwork & leadership while in the Army. My son learned all about Microwave communications, which means he walk into a $75K a year job the day he leaves the Army.

Yeah you can do that in the Air Force, but geez, that's the Air Force. [;)]
