I finally got my Leia finished. I posted pics a while back on FX-sabers forums but didnt here. I powdercoated it super wet black.

here is a list of things done to it.
1. US 2.1 added
2. 4 Li-Ion batteries in a series/parallel circuit (with 7.4V PC) for longer run time
3. accent LEDs...one for power indicator and the other for blade activation.
4. redid the pommel to use a recharge port (got the idea from Jango Fett)
5. added a tactile switch that is pretty much flush (but radius the hole to allow for easy pushing) and is in the perfect location for my pinky to activate the saber.

Here is a vid of it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwTx2IHpwzc)

Just dribbled some coffee down my shirt J-Lo!!! LoL ;)

That saber is very slick, I really like what you've done with it. The color scheme and polishing look great together and the placement of switches and LEDs is very clean. Well done!

Great job....
I have one of these..... so I know the amount of work you put into it to make it that shiny.

Very nice saber, didn't Mara Jade use a saber like this only all crome?

how was the 'quality' of your hilt? did the cuts have chatter marks? how bad were they?

any 'before' pics?

thanks

yes it did and they were pretty bad. I spent hours with a small file in the grooves to get them smooth...I just figured as cheap as the hilt was I was going to have to do some finishing work anyway. I also spent a lot of time on the pommel ring with a file to smooth out the tool marks on it (in the cuts).

All in all I was pleased with it but knew some wouldn't be (especially those that dont have the tools to "finish" it) like the ones that just wanted a display prop hilt.

here are the only before pics I have...you can barely see some of the marks in the grooves but its hard to tell because the sun was a little bright (I am a horrible photographer).

No. Read the title. This was Leia's lightsaber. ;)

I know, but in a couple books/comics she used a saber like it, I know that this one is Leia's saber...

To be honest I don’t know that much about the different hilts used by non cannon characters (I have never read any of the books or comics). I have looked through thelightsaber.com and found several that Mara Jade used according to them. The most popular that people make is one that looks the closest I guess. It has grooves in the center section but that’s probably the only real resemblance. It’s the one with the flat thin sections for grips that many sabersmiths have made.

According to the images I have seen the Leia saber is actually solid aluminum colored (or chrome) and not powder coated like mine is. I just did that to bring it to life and make it different. It’s kind of a Dark Leia I guess lol.

Zook that looks terrific...the polish job is fantastic and the powdercoating really is distinguished and elegant...well done!

Sairon yes you remember correctly Mara 'borrowed' Leia's lightsaber in one of the books...can't remember which book but I'm pretty sure it was this design her blue Jedi Knight saber not her Padawan one that looked like Luke's ROTJ [the crazily inconsistent one that different covers portray with cyan, royal blue, yellow/gold/bronze and maroon/red blades lol].

Thanks again everyone. It was a lot of work to get it where I wanted it but I really like the saber now. I need to finish a couple of other projects now.
