Is there much of a difference in sound quality?

On Ultra's ebay site he talks about how the 06's have better, that is, louder, sound.

The only '06 being the maul I have not heard this. It is louder in tandem in the staff form...

As for quality, the maul is the same sounds as the Vader's. It sounds different in pitch due to being in a different hilt and the whole AAA thing but the sounds are very much the same.

Hmm ok. That sounds promising. I saw MR sabers at Cosco for 80 bucks. I'm thinkin' of buying one to start my first saber. They didn' have the mace saber though...

Thanks for the reply Xwing. Ultra's ebay site talks about how how his anakin/darth conversion's are 06's with louder sound.

He said the speaker's are 8ohm. Is that the same as 05?

I e-mailed Ultra to ask questions I'm sure I'll hear back soon. Thought this would make a good topic tho.

Thanks again.

I am not sure if Ultra's email is working right now, he posted on that earlier in Misc I believe but being as he is a dealer I am betting his info is accurate.

I didn't get your email, so it probably got lost while my mail was down. Anyway, you can tell if you have an '06 Anakin saber by looking for the FCC warning sticker that goes around the hilt. The ones made in '05 didn't have that sticker. I'm not sure you'll find a more recent one in a retail store, but mine come from MR, so they are always new and not older stock. The Anakins are now out of production, so chances are people are selling out their old stock, which is why you can buy them for 80 bucks.

The Vader board used in the Maulsare louder than the older ones. Anyone who's had one in their hands should be able to tell.

All the speakers in the MR's are 8ohm.

If you're going to do a conversion on your own, I'd reccomend starting with the Vader. Strydur has a kit for it right on this forum and it will make your conversion easier as well as make your saber able to accept standard 1" blades.

That's for that info. I had no idea there was differences between the years. Other than the plastic to metal shift on the Anakin I thought they were pretty static over the same generation.

Cool Thanks for replyin' Ultra. So the new Ankin's are louder rite?

Right now, since I've never made a saber and I have no experience with soldering or wiring, I was going to buy a fully funcyional constructed saber first to have as a model to wire up a custom hilt.

I was originally going to buy your stunt saber from ebay. But then I realized I really wanted FX and sound so I was looking at you MR conversions. The e-mail I sent was asking if your MR conversions are as sturdy as your stunt, and if not could you add sound and fx to the stunt.

If that's possible that would be cool but then I might buy that 80 dollar anakin and send it to you to get converted.

It'd be a good idea to continue this over e-mail.[;)] Ultra uses a lot of parts from here and does the wiring the same so it's all good stuff.

Regarding sound, people should note that resonance is a huge factor in the sound.

I tried a test. When you're comparing (for example), a Luke ROJ hilt to a newer Anakin hilt (that is, the 6AA hilt to a 3AA hilt)... even the same sound board & same speaker sound different in the hilts. The Luke ROJ hilt sounds more "full" than the Anakin. The same speaker... and yes, the same board.

Everyone should keep this in mind--especially since it makes perfect sense... sound travels in waves, and the resonance in a tunnel is different than out in the open.

Granted, a "more powerful" speaker can often be better than a cheesy one... but imagine a cheesy one with more resonance... vs. a "good" one with NO resonance! The cheesy one would suddenly sound "better"...
