well you see the pic is of a led converted luke saber so they probably just fitted the led mount in the stock holder.

You think??????

At this time there is no conversion guide available that I am aware of, but I know that people have converted them.

<font size="1">From the FAQ</font id="size1">
Where can I get part X cheaper? OR How can I build part X?
This is the forum of a store. It is somewhat disrespectful to ask that. Please, buy from the shop. The majority of parts you will need are there. If not you can make a suggestion of parts to carry here:
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=164<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

If you want that part then you ask TIM "can you make this part?" in the wish list threads. You do not ask openly "hey, can you make me this part"

Do-Clo was polite and I will try to remain the same. Either ask Tim to make this part (he does custom work) or speak to him off forum. If you don't I WILL LOCK THIS TOPIC. Authorship to a topic does not give you the right to do what you please, if it did I'd have started a few topics and stirred the pot.[:I]

That's what I was afraid of...

Do you have the slightest FRAGGIN clue that this board is the forum for a store? How about I come over to your place of business and tell every one to go shop at the other guys place. JediSaberSmith is a customer just like the rest of us and yes he does some wonderful work but have a little friggin respect for the guy that is busting his butt trying to satisfy all of our orders, run this board, and live a normal life. There is nothing wrong if you want to do a little business with someone on the boards but don't be an ass and start telling people you will do what ever the heck you want because you think you own this thread. NEWSFLASH! Tim owns it, he can delete it he can lock it and there aint a damn thing that your butt could do about it.
I have had my own business in the past and I know from experence that it total crap to have some nimrod come up in your place of business tellin all your customers "Hey I am going to go buy over here" That is about the most classless thing I think could be done on here and it is a shame you don't have the fraggin courtesy to respect the man that makes all this possible.

Xwing can be polite but my slow typing butt is PISTOFF!

Listen,
I mean no disrespect to Tim or any body else. In fact I buy ALL of my supplys from Tim, and I have never tried to sell my stuff in the website. The original post was "please post picks of converted Luke also as to what blade holder you use". Thats all I did. I made no remark about selling ANYTHING. I deleated my earlier post to stop this dibate.

I want to make it completely clear that I have no problem with JediSaberSmith and his posts were fine as we all like to share our progress with building lightsabers. My only complaint is with dacota being very disprespecful of both Tim and Do-Clo as there have been respect issues in the past.

Ya all, Aren't planning on going Saber fightin with MR. Cheney are yas ?

Ill stir up the beans !

Understanding, that this is a forum the Tim Set up. Keep in Mind, That Tim did the same thing in other forums before starting his own.

I know some of you have investment in the BiZ or related sales connections.

Is there a republican in the house ? to much control, leads to the dark side of the force !

I think, thats what we have IM or PM for. Before you go and light the saber up and hack away. Take a look and try and convert them from the dark side or if they are still in training faze !

Tim did do that but not in forums that were attached to stores. Other than Hyperdyne this is the only forum I know attached to a store. Every other one Tim has posted on is not affiliated with any store. Some have certainly kept up more on others. The TFN LED thread was started by Ultra but Tim and Corbin keep up with it. Corbin moderates the Lightsaber forum at ASAP, but Tim still goes there.

I think it would be best to keep ANY polictical comments out of here since this is a forum for a store that caters to a hobby. I grew up around D.C. and I sure as heck do not want to get in to political debates with anyone here because most people have set their alliance and therefore the other team is always wrong and hence not open minded enough to have a meaningful discussion. I am sure I have managed to get someone PIST ticked off, but that is the stone cold fact. There ain't a darn thing wrong with being passionate about something, lord knows I am (see long winded post earlier in this topic[;)]) but is it really worth getting all upset when we are all here for a common reason so that means right now it is not about ***, religion, race, age, or anything else, we are just a bunch of extreme Star Wars nuts. Last time I checked we all had an interest in Star Wars and the building of Lightsabers. As far as Tim pluggin' his store or talkin' business on a forum that has no affliation with an actual place of business, totally apples and oranges.

Does anyone know, what size of inner diameter aluminuim pipe he can get and still be able to use the lathe on it ?

Like say 2 inch pipe, with 1 inch inner diameter ??

Or even 2.5 inch O.D.?

Then I am like thinking, that can a Luxeon conversion be done in a Luke Saber. The reducer, does it get to narrow ?

I know I am going to have to use a 1 inch round hear sink for 5watt Lux.

I am thinking, you would have to reduce the heatsink to fit inside the innder I.D. Of the reducer. and put it in from the bottom.

What are your thoughts ? fellow jokesters ?

How much off would the apperance be in that area, says compared to the replica ?

I'd be off by maybe a 1/2" in diameter. I'd have to look at the bluprints I have but it'd look a lot like the MR.

EDIT: You probably won't have to worry about heatsinking it if it's all aluminum. I'd be like Ultra's S5's. 1.5" OD 1.25" aluminum rod would probably work well.

Firebird, you know I love ya bud[:D]

Is that one dude giving me the bird?

Come on now I thought this was the POSTWHORE party. We can't be getting all serious again...

I have been thinking of this for a while and I would bet someone has thought this too but you could mount the LED up in the emitter area and oversize it enough to hold the blade and then you could use the neck area as the heat sink. With it having direct air exposure it should work real well. by doing that you could use whatever metal you are comfortable with at whatever width you would like.

That has been in the back of my mind also but I be would be concerned if you made the neck thin, would it support the led and blade without snapping and could you duel with it without fear od damage.

It has been a blast.

One of the things I wanted to try was using some bronze, brass or titanium as the neck and make some slots and have a copper tube under it as the heat sink. Not sure how great the others would transfer heat.

I looked and actually found, 3 /4 different Luke Skywalker Sabers.

Rots, Parks, Master Replica, all are different in ways. I was thinking, I need to go back and watch episode 6 again, to see which one is closer.

I dont know how to upload pics otherwise I would have posted what I found. I have tried in the past to put them on my website and post from there, But it would not work.

Thank You Tim !

I have uploaded a few pictures into my photo album. I should have another version or 2 in a few days.

Now, to a un trained eye, you may not see right off some of the differance from them.

But I noticed, different thickness and shape on certain spots of the sabers. naturally the FX is the one, that is least light the orginal.

The smithsonian, is the suppose to be the orginal.

http://home.insightbb.com/~jedijohnson/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html

james3
05-02-2006, 05:32 PM
The main reason the MR FX is fat is because of the blade holder design. Since the electronics and whatnot they just took the liberty of widening the neck. I think the Parks sabers are wider as well.

<center>http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/Dadof3/James3sig.jpg</center>

xwingband
05-02-2006, 06:21 PM
I also know what you mean. The FX is fat for the blade then there are different ones out there mostly the LE. There was also a second ROTJ saber that didn't have the copper section.

Ya I could understand different sizes, due to the blade.

But I can see in the grooves are different, the Smithsonian one, has like a angle to the grooves, where I notice the others do not.

Then on the hilt, There is a groove, but I can see differance in width of the groove.

And the watchya ma call it. the fake led strip on it, you can see a different type.

I mean i dont mean to be picky, but I wonder how they can get buy calling it a replica, when I see enough differance overall, to the orginal. So my thoughts are calling it a replica is mis leading.

and again this is just talking about the hilt.

There wasn't a single saber that was consistant in the OT so having a definative saber is really hard.

Like xwing said, the original set of sabers were not consistant at all. I have read that there were something like 8-10 actual movie used luke sabers and each one is slightly different. I guess you could say that the Master Replicas high end version would make for the standard of what Lukes saber is. I have had the same issue with the original Obi-Wan saber. I would love to make one accurate as possible, but there is even debate among all of us Star Wars fans as to what parts were exactly on the hilt. If memory serves me right Lukes was also the first one that they started building on a lathe, so it is part custom and part hardware.

EDIT- Madcow was working on a Luke saber, you may want to e-mail him to see how progress is coming.

well, as for obi's ep 4 saber, i found a link to a forum thread, one time that talked about the fact they finally identified the emitter of it. it wasnt a burner or a drain like most thought it was for years, it was and has been side by side comaprison shot, found to be a coupler part from an old jet engine, the same engine they made ig88's head from.

it was on the jedigear sites forum, which is down now. but i read thru it when it was up. and this one guy actually bought and had that part shipped to him. he then metticulously measured all over this thing. comparing it to the pics. and it was an exacxt matchup.

i just wished that forum was still up.\

So how `bout them there emitters?

What do you think the minimun amount of blade needed to be in the holder is for duelability? Would it be possible to mount the blade in just the end of the emitter, have the smaller part hollow, and install the LED before that?

I do see some isues with this though, blade holder strength, and LED optical quality, since the LED will be about 3"-4" away from the blade. But maybe all's you'd loose would be the Flare at the base... I don'no...

Just a though.

I still am planning a change once I am ready

Firebird the big problem as I sure you have guessed is if you only have 3/4" to 1 inch in the holder trying to support 3 foot of blade something is going to break.

For dueling you want as much of the blade into the holder as possible 2 inches would be the least I would recommend. Like James said if you only have 1 inch or less in the holder something has to give and the blade may even slide out while dueling, not a pretty picture. You wouldn't want to be standing there with a lightsaber and no blade now would you.[:D]
