I just finished my next saber but still need to drill/tap for the blade set screw.
I have a #1 Blade Holder and wanted to know where the best location would be for the set screw. In the 0.25" thickest section, or the forward, 0.125" thinnest part? Also, is the blade more stable the higher up (toward the tip) the set screw?

My first thought was the thickest part because I thought the stresses of dueling would be too much for the thinnest section. I was looking around for examples of the blade holder, but there are not a lot of them used that I could find.
Thanks Guys.

BTW. Is everyone ready for Dragon*Con '09 ?

The best place would be near the top edge of the thicker section. That way you have a lot of bite, and the screw is nearly 1/2 way up the blade holder.

Thanks LM. I really wanted to put it in the thickest part.
Everyone uses all these fancy blade holders. I think the #1 is under rated.
Simple, yet .....Simple. Just straight forward design.

I have used the #1 BH in a few builds, I also think it is one of the more useful/sturdy designs. Maul's placement suggestion is where I have put my retention screw every time, especially if it is a set screw setup. I am sorry, I can't seem to find a picture that shows them though.

Upper 1/3rd of the thick section will be a fine placement.
