Anakin conversion - with a twist.

[Obi-Dar Ke-Gnomie]

This saber started life as an inspiration from a calendar. I have a page-a-day Star Wars calendar given to me for Christmas. Every day shows you some piece of concept art, along with a shot from the movie of the real thing. On May 16th, I turned the page to see this:

I got to thinking. "Why would he look like that, but have a red saber? What if the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan had ended differently? What would his saber look like?"
So, I thought up a back story with a different ending to ROTS. I haven't got it all ready to post, but here's the gist of it.

Obi-Wan and Anakin are fighting on the hover barge on the lava river, just like in the movie. At one point, they lock sabers, then Obi-Wan jumps to the shore. In the movie, Obi-Wan makes the jump, gains the high ground, and cuts off Anakin's good arm and legs, sending him sliding toward the lava.

In my version, a gas bubble erupts under the hover barge, just as Obi makes his jump. He barely makes it to shore, and scrambles up the slope just as Ani leaps. Obi manages to get his saber up in defense, but only manages to cut off Ani's left arm. Ani gets his feet under him, and lunges for his saber, but Obi kicks it into the lava. Ani calls the saber to his hand, and tries to ignite it to finish off Obi-Wan, but it won't light because of the damage the lava did.

Obi-Wan gets away, and later, on the emperor's ship, Anakin gets fitted with a new mechanical arm to match his other one. He hates Obi-Wan even more for maiming him like this, and vows that some day he will take his revenge. He cleans and repairs his saber, replacing damaged parts and fitting it with a red crystal. He carries this damaged saber as Darth Vader because in it's damaged state, it resonates with his own damaged body.

I didn't get any build pics, but inside, it's a basic Ani conversion. The only difference is that I put the speaker further up and used a 4AAA battery holder.

Very cool. I did a similar one but in my story the hilt didn't get damaged. I do like the weathering on yours.

I have a MR Luke ANH that I'm thinking of doing on a similar theme to this. "What if Luke had turned to the dark side when Vader tried to seduce him on Bespin? What would his Graflex look like?"

I love your plot twist and love the saber more. My first and so far only build, is a variation on this path. I took my Lowe's special, added some accents from an Ultimate kit and made a Vader-esque saber. My costume is a Fallen Jedi Anakin. (red blade) Anyways, Great lookin' saber and back story.
