Hi all.

I've just found the site and I'd like to introduce our website, nyjedi.com. We're a dueling, training and stage choreography group located in New York. We have several events and get together's planned in the near future, and would love to get anyone who is into the saber arts together for sparing, practice, modding, or whatever!

Come check out our site, and I've already recommended yours. Awesome stuff on the mods, guys really!! These sabers look great! Now, can you USE them?

Welcome to the forum.. I visited your site but found no reference or link to The Custom Saber Shop found at http://www.thecustomsabershop.com. I would hope that you and all of your participants would take the time to look through the shop as you will not find a better resource for these custom saber pieces. For example, the Modular Hilt System... a system that allows you the participant the greatest amount of creative form in either an EL or LED blade. Treat yourself to the best on the net and you will find that your Saber can truly be as unique as your fighting style.

Oh, I can't explain what it's like for a grown man to dance on his butt in his chair all GIDDY because he's looking at a light saber buffet menu online! Or - maybe I don't have to. [:D]

I posted you guys here, but I'm currently working on a customizing page for the main site:

Personally I am in Western Canada...

You might want to talk with the Shop owner Strydur about where he is located. I'm little more than a loyal poster on the forum who knows quality when he sees it.

Im new to saber dueling; I got my first MR only a few months ago. I now own 3 single blade MRs and the double-bladed Darth Maul. I have never studied any fencing; however, my apprentice and I used to train together in Jujitsu (I was several belts higher than he was, which is why that makes him the apprentice:) ). He and I are used to rough sparring and we go at each other with these sabers. Just sharing some of our experience so far dueling with a single blade vs two blades vs double blade. Each truly has its advantage, even holding a single blade against an opponent with double blade or two singles. The majority of the kills we usually make involve cuts to hands, which would have meant losing the hand in a 'real' situalion. The only safety gear my apprentice and I wear are gloves. We have discussed looking into paintball masks or something, because I have thrust into his eye and throat; he also has landed blows to my face. Happy to report no groin shots yet. When using two single blade sabers, I personally hold the blade in my right hand up, and in my left the blade is pointed down. I have found some effective combos using this method. For a more defensive posture, holding both blades up and crossed in front is good. Im still getting used to the double blade, it is longer than the staves we practiced with in Jujitsu. Some of my martial arts techniques dont work with a double blade because they require that one slide one's hands up and down the staff and grip it more towards the ends. One move that I try, that sometimes results in my death, is rushing my apprentice and crossing sabers at the hilts; then I use a sweep kick on his legs. Its very cool when it works, but its risky. Thats all I have for now.

Well, it is definitely appreciated. Welcome to the forum. I am not as esteemed as some of my fellow posters (you'll be able to figure out whom yourself within a few viewings), but that does not dim my enthusiasm for Star Wars, lightsabers, and dueling with 'em. I'd recommend checking out the related thread in the Misc. Topics forum.

Again, welcome, m'friend!

I don't know how I missed this thread:

Welcome to the Orange County Star Wars Society Lightsaber Training Class.

These classes meet on Wednesday nights from 630pm to 930pm and on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm.

Equipment needed: gloves and close toed shoes [no sandals] Other recommeded items: comfortable clothing that's not too baggy, but that covers arms and legs. Shinai [kendo style bamboo practice swords] or EL or LED lightsaber [we do have spare shinai's on hand]

I will attach a link to our home site for more information.

http://boards.theforce.net/orange_county_ca/b10123/21855210/p1

I just noticed the thread for the locations has been locked. The location of the Wednesday class is:

Twila Reid Park

(714) 765-5191
3100 W Orange Ave
Anaheim, CA

If you need directions, let me know.

I know this is an old post but hopefully master Don will notice this. I'd really like to join you guys if you're still doing this. I just registered on the force.net and I'd like to become part of the group. I have extensive Iado and Kenjuitsu training and I know it would be fun and I could be alot of help.

Thanks

For those interested, I'm going to try helping to work with Flynn from NYJedi in order to have an SFJedi thing going.

Then again, I live in SJ and I may not be in SF alot.

Still--more heads are better than one...

...and Balance of Power II is already on its way to being performed...

...so Balance of Power III needs to begin soon.. :)

I am in Rochester NY. Not sure how close that is to NYJedi but their site looks like fun. I am no swordsman but I have studied Tasu Do and Goshen Jitsu for a good number of years, also tried Kendo for a time. I would imagine saber dueling would be lotsa fun.

Well I consider myself very fortunate that the Flynn decided to expand the NY Jedi and now we have a local group here in La. I hope that more groups form so eveybody has a place to train. Goldensaber I always used a Single Blade but have been training a lot recently with a double and never realized how much I Love the Double Saber. 8)

goldsaberwarrior
09-08-2007, 10:12 PM
try using two once just to say you did. I like doubles because I can do more with them than a single. It's actually fun to dual wield doubles. You would be surprised how much of your way you can have in a dual if you use two doubles at 1 time.

Jedi-Loreen
09-09-2007, 12:27 AM
Sounds more like you'd have a lack of control wielding 2 doubles at the same time.

goldsaberwarrior
09-09-2007, 04:37 PM
Actually if you shorten your hilts a little you would be surprised how much of a difference it makes. I've found that an average length of about 15-18 inches is best for shorter doubles. At least for me they are. As far as control or lack of it as you say loreen, it sounds hard until you actualy use the style. No offense to anyone but using two doubles at one time requires more experience than some of you may think.
