This is a concept saber that my brother in-law and I have worked on. The idea behind this saber comes out of the EU. If you've ever read the NJO series then you are probably familiar with Zonoma Sekot, the living planet that is the self stated embodiment of the force. This planet uses its resources to create force sensitive ships grown from seed partners that bond with a force sensitive person. Our idea was what if instead of a ship, Sekot grew a saber?!? This is our interpretation of what that might look like. The ships were said to be a mix between natural materials and metal with veins of shimmering gold running throughout the surface, so that look was recreated on the saber as well.

Now for the particulars...

The main hilt body is a bent piece of steel industrial conduit that was cut to size and shape and later engraved by dremel.
The blade holder is a modified Anakin conversion kit holder from Tim, the pommel is also a modified MHS pommel with the threads ground down till it fit snugly.
The rest is Marine Epoxy sculpted around the tube and painted with Testor's model paints. <~~~this was a major first for me.

All parts a secured with screws under the sculpting

It runs a Cyan bin 1 luxIII w/ a MR Yoda board on a 3.7V 2450mAh Li-Ion pack with recharge port and custom scultped kill key with decorative chain. The switch is one of Tim's DPDT illuminated anti-vandal switches with a blue ring. It has 2 accent leds in the pommel and one attached to the board that light up when the kill key is removed along with the switch ring. It also has 2 more accent leds near the board that light up when the saber is activated that are visible through the mesh screen near the recharge port.

On to the pics...

Wow, that looks kick@$$!!!

Kinda looks like it might be more of an animal horn like evolution than perhaps say mineral formation / deposit, although it could easily pass for either. I think a horn came to mind cause of the curved shape.

Either way, very nice work!

Great Idea for using the beads for a cutoff switch!!!!

looks amazing, one of the best sculpts I've seen so far. The only thing is that it looks backwards to me. I think the finger grips would look better toward the blade, but that is just me and either way it is still awesome. Nice job, I may have to try those techniques.

The finger grips are placed at a very natural feeling spot when you actually hold the saber and feel the weight and balance of it. There is a depression on the top for your thumb as well. It's very interesting to hold and duel with I really like it and it makes for some awesome angles of attack.

I'm quite impressed and to me this does look like something Zonama Sekot might have created...very creative job there...BRAVO!

Totally agree. I love the EU stuff more than the canon SWU. This is an amazing peice of work. Was the epoxy hard to work with? I've seen two sabers encased in epoxy and they both have a very good look.

Personally I wouldn't have used the switch holder but had the switch on the hilt but couldn't find anything else I'd change. Love it.

I didn't think the Epoxy was very difficult to work with, besides a few minor things.

1. It stinks like crazy once you combine the 2 parts.

2. It's very sticky and got all over the exposed metal pieces which in turn had to be cleaned which was a PITA.

Other than that, you have to work quickly because it hardens within about 10 minutes. It's easily shaped with a dremel and sanding drum though. I'll definately be doing more using this epoxy.

I saw a shapeable epoxy which you mould by hand, is this the sort you used or the type in a double syringe which mixes as you pump it out?

Did you do most of the shaping once you'd put it on the hilt then?

This is Marine Epoxy, its sold in most hardware stores near the glues. It is used for repairing boat hulls and other such projects. It comes in a stick form which has a white center and green outer coating. You cut off a portion and knead the 2 together till they are the same color and then apply it directly to the surface. I got as close to the final shape as possible with my hands and then did the final shaping using a dremel with a 80 grit sanding drum on a medium speed. Touch ups were done by hand with varying degrees of sandpaper. The surface when you are finished is extremely durable and accepts paint very nicely.

That's the epoxy stick I've see. I think I'm going to get some for the next project.

Congrats again on the build and thanks for the advice/pointers.

That, my friend, looks wicked.
Organic looking, and the abundance of hidden LEDs really makes it look like it was something cobbled together by a planet. Y'know, not too streamlined yet fully functional.
Love it. :D

Invisas, the epoxy stick is one of the few things i'd buy at Maplin. £4 & you'll get a hilts-worth out of it...

Two legacy Sith sabers says it works well!!

Also, Awesome work Lex, though i'd have gone for a light purple blade. Anakin Solo replaced his crystal with a Vong Lambent crystal, and since Vong tech is derived from Zonoma, it fits nicely. That's just my opinion...

Definitely an excellent organic hilt execution. The sculpt and especially the excellent paint job make it look like weathered wood or mineral. I love the way you sculpted over the switch box and integrated that into the design, like a sort of growth out of the side of the saber.

The paint job really takes your sculpt over the top though. Great job.

pretty slick..one of the best organic sabers I have seen...

throwing putty on a saber doesnt make it organic to me... but this one is very well done.

good job.!!

this design really reminds me of an archaic protosaber. im thinking the same sculpting techniques could be used to create one, seeing as they are described as being "carved by hand" from durasteel. awesome job man!

There's actually someone here who made a sculpted protosaber, I'm not sure if they used this same medium, but it came out awesome. I believe it was Arkai, but I could be wrong.

EDIT:

I was right it was Arkai, here ya go with the linky
