View Full Version : "Vosk" RLSA saber by LDM

I wanted to do a conversion on an old RLSA saber, with a Vader MR board (minus the clash sensor). The most difficult part of this conversion was developing a unique optics/heatsink module to work with the 3/4" emitter and make it small enough that everything could fit into the hilt. Check the pictures of the thick Poly-C and aluminum module, it is pretty slick. The next challenge (for a guy without milling equipment) was to turn a 3" long SOLID pommel into a hollow pommel with evenly spaced sound holes. I have included a picture of the trashcan with the shavings in it...wheeeew that was a lot of drilling and "milling" with the new drill press. To tackle the "no clash sensor" problem, I simply added a mom switch next to the accent LED. It is small and looks like the "main" on/off switch, since I recessed the real main on/off switch on the opposite side of the saber. Finally, I pulled out the "super secret weathering sauce" and made this baby look "worked with". Finished her off with a 3/4" thick-walled poly-C blade with 2' of Poly-P wrap and a mirrored tip. Enjoy!

Nice upgrade of one of my "master's" hilts. I like it.

Thank you very much for showing how you did the custom optics/heatsink and how you attached it to the emitter/blade holder. That is how I should have done it for the sabers I have put electronics in. I'm kicking my self in the head as I type (which btw is not an easy thing to do) for not thinking of that myself. Again, many thanks.

You are welcome. It took some thinkin', but folks don't call me the Master of impossible conversions for nothin' ;) BTW, I've punched myself in the neck before...

Nice Job LDM. Gotta love the old RLSA's. So versatile in the designs.

Arkm, you getting back into the saddle on your 'master's sabers? You'd have a good few customers on the various forums if you stuck to the G-style hilts....

What is a g-style hilt?

ARKM

What is a g-style hilt?

G = Graflex. However most of the hilts I have made that I called "G-style" weren't all that Graflex looking. Think "angled emitter shroud with an inner emitter/blade holder". G-style is just easier to say... and type, lol.

I mean no offense but since this is LDM's thread, I would like to steer clear from talking about me or my sabers. If anyone has any more questions for me, please send me a PM or email (depending on the subject matter). Thank you, thank you.

Thanks LDM. I just didn't anyone to get upset if they felt the thread was being "hijacked".

RLSA Sabers was ran by Rob Martinelli of Bend Oregon. When he decided that he no longer wanted to make custom sabers, I bought his business from him.

zadin, LDM is one of the masters here at tcss he does some amazing work. one of his most signiture features is called the crystal pommel which is a crystal that lights up and shines out the end of the saber. he also has done dozens of other sabers that just seem to continuously impress us. keep it up LDM!
