View Full Version : Saber Forge / MHS parts - The Inquisitor has been ordered

Using the many parts I have had Saber Forge order from TCSS for install, here's the poop on the build:

It's a single section T6061 aircraft grade aluminum metal hilt, as much as I would have liked a MHS hilt for easy mods/breakdown/repair. That'll be the next one.

TCSS Parts and purpose:

I placed the order on 6/21. Phil at SF said it would ship to me on Monday, about a week after order was placed, thus expected to be in my hands by 7/2-7/3. It seems a lathe gear on Phil's machine went flippy so the blade did not arrive here until Friday 7/10 (no big deal). It's not one normally on his site, called The Regal (yeah, that name is changing to Mos Imperator - The Will of the Emperor, as soon as I have a few minutes I will whip out some dremel-fu and classic runic engraving work on it as is expected of any well blessed Imperial weapon).

I ordered it from his eBay sales which includes the 'SF 1/8th thickness Blade' at 36" length, a Hasbro Sound Board with vented pom and TCSS Premium Speaker, as well as a LuxIII Cyan LED overdriven by TCSS BuckPuck, and a TCSS Covertec Belt Clip. Phil did not charge me for the install of the Buckpuck or the Belt Clip, so bonus there.

The hilt comes in at about 11.1 inches in length, the blade itself being another 30 inches when inserted into the hilt's blade holder/emitter section. Safe to say it is just about katana length and feels like it when held for Kendo movements and strikes. The blade has been worked on a lathe so as to bring the lighting to the surface, killing off the 'blade in a tube' look as well as causing the very kewl core light beam down the center of the blade's entire length.

Sadly, the Cyan LED is one of the 'greenish' ones and the blade is not the SRD Light Blue one would hope for from a Cyan bulb. I am sending the saber to Phil once more to see if that can be changed out for a better Bin of LED, or just another color in the end if Cyan can not be found any time soon. The pics look very 'blue' as I had hoped, but to the naked eye saber blade is a serious Teal/Lime Green.

The Hasbro Sound Board is STUPIDLY loud.. the all metal hilt makes a brutal sound out of the little bugger and the Premium Speaker from TCSS is very, very strong. My only concern here, the speaker is free mounted and held in by the wiring only.. it is not mounted to the bottom of the lower battery pack as one might think to do for 'battery changing' times. I just hope the wires can take the flexing when battery replacements do happen.

**Side note** Phil mistakenly forgot to add the Covertec Belt Clip during installation, seems he got very busy with that minor equipment issue last week. He will install it once I send the hilt back to confirm the Cyan issue and the missing clip.

And then there were pics...

wha?? Should it not be posted here or something?

I think openly discussing sabers purchased elsewhere is dangerously close to the line. The time to post it would be AFTER you install the electronics.;) I have brought it up for discussion in the Council section and will get back to you if it is not okay to leave it. (I am just not completely sure on this one)

Ahhh, I was not sure if that was an issue here. Being that the parts I ordered to be installed in the saber are all TCSS/MHS parts, I figured this was not to be a problem.

Like I said it would be perfectly okay AFTER you do the work. Or you could modify the original post and write out exactly what you plan to do and what TCSS parts you will be using. Then I think you will be okay.;)

I hope that edit works for the posting. If something is unclear let me know and I'll rewrite or dump the post. TY

It works, and nice choice, but a n00b you remain till you make 1 yourself:rolleyes:

I wanted one in hand until I can sit down and actually make a MHS or Sinktube saber of my own. I am still just some noobie.

Updated the OP and there are some notes for others there about the Cyan LED Bin issue that causes us to find Green color LEDs instead of the light Blue we all crave so. Enjoy folks.

That's the pommel, and it's not copper. It's picking up reflections from something else.

The blade does look more green on my screen. I hope the board is at least secure. I know it's a cheapy but still. I know I have to search and order boards with great difficulty. Plus if you need to order a new TCSS speaker the wait and shipping is no fun.

The nasty burs are just that, SF did a quick drill of the pommel to set the sound vents, in doing so he never cleaned up his work and shipped it out with the sharp metal fragments and burs still in place. And it's picking up color from the silk material it's sitting upon, hence the slight copperish look.

I have since had a SaberSound v1.0 and a true Bin1 Cyan LuxIII placed into the hilt which brought the color of the blade closer to the blue sprectrum.

Sadly, as many have pointed out as of the last few months, SaberForge seems to have fallen off the face of the planet when it comes to orders having issues. I've sent him 4 emails to an address I know he usually responds to, no word back and I am starting to get unhappy about the order of 2 seperate sabers.

Did you try going directly to his site and email him from there. I always get a responce from him that way. I just had some issues with him myself. I had to open a paypal dispute before he would ship them.

It is crazy that saberforge just fell of the planet. I have not seen any posts on here or fx-saber for months.

It's not crazy. He's avoiding people who are upset about problems with his boards or are having problems with the sabers he's built.

Hi! I've registered in this forum because I've seen you were talking about saberforge. I too have problems with him. I bought one of his sabers through Ebay last march 14 and still no news about it. I only got apologies assuring me he would ship my saber next week. Last april 22 I asked him to give me back my money and I mentioned his bad reputation in certain forums. I got no more answers from him and I'm beginning to worry. Any advices? Any email address you know where I can try to cantact him besides his website?

Sorry to say, but this forum is dedicated to the store that it is attached to and not really concerned with the antics of SaberForgery. We are a DIY community geared towards helping people build there own QUALITY sabers.

That said, I do empathize with your problem, as his crappy customer service tarnishes us all. However, there is ample warning about him out there, as you said, on the various forums. If after reading said warnings you bought anyway, well, I can't say that I feel any sympathy.

We put all the warnings we can, and caveat emptor on the various forums we all frequent. We can't do anything about him on eBay. Hell, eBay is even powerless as he just changes his name every six months on there to erase the bad feedback. He is now on his 4th username I believe. My advice to you is to file a PayPal claim if you still can and leave him negative feedback on eBay. If you waited too long past the 60 days (looks like you're close) then, well, sorry about your luck. You should have done something about it by now.

What you CAN do, if you choose, is stick around here and learn something of the craft and the people heavily involved in it. This way, you'll be better educated on building your own if you choose, or knowing who NOT to buy from if you aren't interested in building. good luck.

Good pics. I have had some similar issues with a saberforge, but anyway. As for the moving speaker and wires, after some battery changes, some wires may break, so I highly recommend to install a recharge port and almost all your problems are solved.
I'd like to know if you have compared two similar sabers from SF, but one with LED driven by the soundboard, and the other overdriven with buckpuck, Is it worth the buckpuck ?

You are absolutly right, but you know at the beginning, I was like him and didn't know the very existence of TCSS (some of us are not from the core planets, he he he) and our first contact with the saber universe is sometimes through ebay. At first sight, SF sabers (on photos) look great for a newcomer. But now, with learning, efforts and time, and thanks to places like TCSS, we can now make the difference between SF problematics sabers, and top quality sabers like yours for example, or learning how to make your own

As Vlad Doon says, I'm new to the saber universe and I started looking for sabers through ebay. Sorry if I didn't post my question in the right forum, but it was only after I purchased saberforge's prophecy saber when I learned from his reputation and I thought I could get some advice here.
Also, I learned about TCSS not long ago and I've been "playing" with your MHS builder. I'm considering to buy some pieces and start building mine. It will be just the hilt, for the moment, 'cause I'm unemployed right now. When that moment comes, hope you can supervise my work. Thanx and peace.

You can use this time (before purchasing) to increase your knowledge and make concepts. You'll see, doing it yourself is sooo good. If I may give a bit of advice, have a look at the tutorials and schematics here, they are great.
May the force be with you.
