Here is the first glimpse of my first electronic saber. It’s not quite complete—at some point I plan on adding a control box and a 2” overlay to the fluted piece. And I’m still waiting on the blade to arrive (arrg).

It’s all MHS parts, with a blue P4 driven by an Ultrasound 2.1 soundboard.

Special thanks to Tim for all his great custom work, Jay-gon Jinn for referring me to TCSS, Rhyen Skytracker, Kal El Rah, Obi-Dar Ke-Gnomie, and Thaxos for all their valuable help, advice, and input, and of course DJMoonbass for keeping me entertained.

I like it!! Good job dude!!

Gotta ask, what are those set screws in the fluted section for? They cosmetic, or they keeping the US in place?

Right now, they don't do anything other than cover the screw holes. They are there to secure the overlay and the box, which are yet to come.

I'd leave it, but then i'm not a huge fan of shrouds.... think it looks good as it is...

Nicely done Obi-Ben!
That looks great, can't wait to see it light up!
Haha, I like how I'm being thanked for help and advice and haven't even finished my first saber yet. :p Darn vandal switch is still in the mail.

Cool hilt you have there, though I agree with Barmic in leaving it as it is now, and not adding the shroud and box you´re waiting for. Or maybe those two elements will improve the hilt´s aesthetics so dramatically I´d have to eat my very own words :D... Either way you win for being the owner of such a nice lightsaber :)

I could eat my words as well, we'll wait & see.

Nice looking hilt, Obi-ben.
I think the shroud could have some real potential, but I can't quite envision well where a control box would go that could improve the hilt.

You could see it lit up right now, but there's no blade for the LED to reflect off of. It's out of my hands--I'm waiting...waiting on Ultrasabers.

ben, very nice. love the simplicity of the design. it says what needs to be said and it's too busy.

Wow. My first (last) saber was nothing like that....

It's a lot heavier than I thought it would be. I originally thought I may have to put lead weights in the pommel to counterbalance the blade, but I don't think that will be necessary.

You guys think it's not too busy? If I had to do it over again, I would have substituted the fluted piece for just a plain 4" extension.

The blade came in today, and with a little sanding I finally got it to fit.

Thanks guys! It's a standard 36" heavy dueling blade from Ultrasabers.

Very nice work there OB. Sleek and professional looking. I do however agree about the fluted section. Design-wise, it fights with the grooves in the forward grip. But, after all, saber building is all about individual taste. The only one you have to please is yourself. I would be proud though. Excellent work.

Very brave using a US in your 1st build.

Honestly, I like your saber as it is right now. It looks busy, but not overly so which is a big plus in my book. Also, although it looks busy, it also doesn't look so cluttered as to be impractical and unwieldable.
