It's been a while since i've had the chance to really get on & churn out any sabers, so to save space, i'll be sticking most of my sabers into this topic as they roll off the production line in the coming weeks.

First up, a respray
This is what I call my 'Comic' Kun saber. I based this on the sabers used in the Tales of the Jedi comics, particularly Exar Kun's single bladed one from 'Dark lords of the Sith #1'.

I bought it on Ebay, pretty much how it is, but it had been wrecked. The screw threads had been worn down in places, badly drilled through in others. It was salvagable, however, well except the wiring. First pic is how not to wire up a saber, and why not to use Masking tape instead of heatshrink!!

Actual saber before respray:

With blade:

I've decided to spray most of the hilt Moonlight Blue, but the shroud will stay as scuffed,
So here's the parts before spray:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_31052009850.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=31052009850.jpg)

First coat & it looks pretty dark:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_31052009851.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=31052009851.jpg)

Third coat, and the blue is really starting to come out:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_31052009853.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=31052009853.jpg)

There are few scuffs & scrapes in the metal i'll sand the paint off to give it a weathered & worn look. Obviously, that'll be once the paint has properly dried.
Updates as I get around to it.

ugh! Who in their right mind would use masking tape insteaad of heatshrink???

Great find, You choose a really nice color for the hilt! I like it.

Wow, talk about cold solder joints. You'd have to work at getting such large globs of solder without it flowing.

I think this is a mistake, may just be freudian because those are some serious suck globs of solder.

No idea how the guy got them like that, but the other half of the electronics fell out 1st time i opened it up!!! only reason this lot stayed in place was because of the switch!! Led had about 1/2" of pos. wire attached to it too!!

Thanks for the comments folks.
Like I said, updates on it as I go.

As a sneak peak, the next one on here should be by Dark Empire based hilt!!

I like the Moonlight Blue. Nice color choice to give this saber new life. Can't wait to see the final.

You should rename it "Masking Tape's Revenge."

Update: The paint is pretty much dried, but I wanted to put in afew of the scuffs & scrapes before it was 100% dry.
The grooves on the 7" section will probably be scraped out, weathered and afew more scratches added around the emitter, but i'm happy with how the colour has come out.

Also, how NOT to drill through the screw thread:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_01062009856.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=01062009856.jpg)
This saber needs at least 4 screws just to keep the blade holder attached!!

Some of the scratches, weathering to be added later.

A close up of the shroud & some of the srews needed.

After applying epoxy:

Gonna try to get hold of some thing sheets of plastic (probably 2mm sintra) to work on the patterns around the sides, though will experiment with printed transfers to see how that turns out.

Lol!!!! Oh yeah!! Got a white K2 going into it, gutted the sound & putting a pommel in at the end of the grips to make it a bit stubbier. With the standard end on it, it's just too big.
Gonna dirty it up too....

Here's the light up vid. Bear in mind it's supposed to be a nightlight, so they aren't going to be stupidly bright.

With the working LEDs & epoxy (used more epoxy on this one to cover the paint).

New project to run along side the others.

I bought a bunch of MHS parts from a guy on ebay, and two of the chokes were a 'little tight' according tro the description. Actually they were glued together.....

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_12082009960.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=12082009960.jpg)
Here's the bits,

After some cursing, swearing & a bit of elbow grease, they came apart:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/th_12082009961.jpg (http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/barmic_rin/?action=view&current=12082009961.jpg)

One choke is going on a fan film saber, one on my new steampunk & the 3rd is becoming a crystal chamber for a friends saber. I'm a busy bee!!!

There was a disgusting amount of glue in them....

Jedi-Loreen
08-13-2009, 01:43 PM
That's ridiculous. Why would someone glue MHS parts together? :| And IMO, putting 2 chokes together is kind of strange, anyway. Seems like whoever did that didn't know what they were doing. They weren't even screwed all the way together.

What kind of glue was used, can you tell? Looks too gloppy to have been super glue.

I have no idea, but the choke that was separate has it running all the way inside, gonna be a real pain to sort.

Thanks, I have a shop sign company just round the corner from me, so i'm looking at getting them to do afew 3D fascias for them. What with me doing funny shifts recently, I haven't really had the chance to sort the plan out properly with them.

Update pics as I go.
