Hi

After much reading of this great site, my young son and I decided to take on the challenge of Saber building as a father and son hobby :D. Inspired by all the great saber designs posted, we decided to take it slow and start with a PVC saber (much thanks to "Jay-gon's PVC Hilts" thread).

We ordered a Lux1 LED , got some paint and supplies, and began our project. We learned a lot along the way as fabricating something from scratch and basic electronics were new to both of us but we finally built our first PVC saber.

To anyone new, I recommend taking it slow, working safe, and enjoy the build process! We had great fun and will build more soon!

Specifics:

Lux1 Red-Orange LED
Copper end cap as heatsink
Electrical Conduit PVC for the body, standard PVC end cap
Black Hammered Finish paint job
28" (exposed) Blade from a salvaged MR FX Saber with 2' of cello wrap inside
Black O-rings
Red RadioShack switch

Here are the pics:

Very nice, I like how you turned a ugly square switch to someting cool.

I think that you should drill a few more holes in the emmiter.

Superb... PVC is a great way to get into the hobby, plus itīs relatively easy to work with. Its drawback is the fine powder produced by cutting it, but with mask and goggles that shouldnīt be a concern.

I like what you did with the power switch and the placement of the o-rings. Congratulations :-)

Thanks for all the positive responses! :)

Actually, it was my kid's idea to mount the switch that way. I agree it makes a bland switch look better.

looks great! The real question is: did you really build it with your son or was that just an excuse? One of the best pvc sabers and first sabers I've seen!

Thanks for the compliment!

I really did build it with him. I did the soldering of the electronics and he did a lot of the design work and assembly with me. It was good fun.

Very good use of the O rings. Makes it look fairly sleek, as far as PVC goes.
And the switch, well, I'm just echoing everyone who mentioned it before me!
Great start, and welcome to the hobby!

Great job. That is a great looking PVC saber. I like how you both spent the time to build it together. I am 43 years old and building sabers has really brought me and my dad closer together. He is a machinist and has taught me alot in the past 8 months. This is a great hobby to share with your son. Also, that was a great idea for the switch.
