View Full Version : Using EL sheet instead of wire

I have been looking at different forms that EL products come in lately and I saw one site had sabers that were apparently made of flat 360 degree el sheet encased in polycarbonate tube.

I read that at anothe site you can cut this EL sheet up into basically any shape. so if you had some of this EL sheet wrapped inside a polycarbonate tube, like a thicker 1 inch tube, and without putting the poly-E tubing around it, wouldn't this make a brighter EL saber, and being able to make the blade thicker without using heaps more el wire and weighing down the blade?

By the sounds of it I think it would be lighter than using el wire anyway.
Any thoughts people? and Tim, if it is a viable idea, this could improve your EL blades ready to compete with that new LED that is coming out soon.

cheers

It's a pain it implement. It's not really 360 either. It's just overlapped and seamed well. Take Parks for instance. Their blades will warp and the sheet curl at the edges if you duel too much.

Not only that but they arent as bright. Personally I have yet to see any of the other EL blade designs out there but customers always say the design I use is the brightest on the market.

Once again Tim is right, I compared my El Blade made from his Kit to a Parks and it looked like a night light compared to my 12v El.

I tried el tape.

It is totally a pain to deal with.

It blotches easy, is not really cheaper. not brighter.

I didnt event finish the blade, I ruined about 3 strips, before I just said forget it.

Its not really new, been around for over a year now. Atleast thats when I found it.

Try rolling it and consistantly, almost need a inner tube to help keep the shape and form.

Yep, see the pale blue one my brother is holdin?
Nice color, very uniform, we have had great luck dualing but that doesn't seem to be the norm, not exactly very bright.
