Jonitus & LDM MHS weathered Obi-wan Collaboration!

This was a collaborative project by Jonitus and I. This is Jonitus' Weather-fu and custom gear section and my electronics-fu and finish detailing. There are a few firsts for me on this hilt. I designed my version of Madcow's switch-under-the-bubbles and transistor-kill-key. I made the faux "transistors" myself and tried to make them look weathered to match Jonitus' awesome work! This saber has reverse-sound as well and custom aluminum clamp inserts so you cant see the insides of the clamp/box. The mini-SD card is easily accessible by simply removing the genuine Armitage Shanks pommel. The CF is in a plastic tube pseudo-chassis for a little protection.

looks good guys.

coupel things that jump out to me.. (personal preference I guess)

1.) the pommel being so shiney takes away/clashes with the weathering
2.) the ribbed section seems almost 'solid' black instead of weathered...


I dig the gear section.. I like how the fins are more pronounced and 'pointy' (er)

If you look at the original prop, the Armitage Shanks handwheel on it was very shiny. At the time it was built, the Armitage Shanks handwheel was a new piece you could buy in a plumbing store in the UK, while the other stuff was already antique. The ribbed section is indeed weathered, and LDMs camera doesn't pick up the weathering. I gave the ribbed "booster" section a coloration of textured black, a wash in gunmetal grey, and a dry-brushing with actual rust before it was sealed with flat lacquer. It's subtle, but it's there.

I made a few nubby EL blades back when I used to help friends build EL sabers. They are a lot easier to test the hilt electronics with than a 40" blade.

I even made my own "safety plug" a couple years ago by cutting off 2" from the end of a blade and gluing an acrylic carbochon on the end and filling the blade with hot glue (not my original idea though, got it from a friend).

Here is the updated-to-CF 4.2 saber. H@rry had a little "accident" and so I redid this one. Had to replace the speaker and switches. Battery pack is still good. I also replaced the CF 4.0 with a 4.2

LDM you seem to just wow me everytime you make a new saber. what i really like is your method... it just amazes me. since im a machinist i look at how i can do things EXACT and Precise. you man.... you just throw it together with glue and some other not precise methods and the end product is just FLAWLESS. especially your wiring. it just wows me that i have to stop typing, lean back in my chair and look at all your build pics, watch EVERY one of your videos and just enjoy every ounce of your work.

what im curious is what that thing is you use to mount your soundboard in. and it seems you found a solid perfect battery that you use in every one of your build builds. and is your reverse sound technology a secret? may i PM you and you can give me some tips to use on my 10 watt senior project? ;)
