Is it possible to get the effect the toys r us lightsaber effect where the saber have the bright flash like in the movies when the lightsabers clash? I believe I read something about something called a luxeon driver that can ONLY be installed on custom saber shop sabers. So basically can we get these on our master replicas and normal sabers?

Here it is...

And it will not fit in a MRFX saber. There's just no room for it.

BTW: Welcome to the sight...
But you might want to browse the Tread Index before posting a qwestion. (link in sig.)

Otherwise xwing will beat you silly...[xx(]

You have been warned. Enjoy!

Nah, Corbin's board will give a clash effect. It's more of a shimmer as a opposed to a bright flash like a strobe.

Your statement about what they could be put in is correct to a point. They normally don't fit in MR sabers because of space but otherwise they can fit in any saber that's wide enough to house the driver.

Will the new Luxeon 5 watt (V) work with the 3watt driver ?

or will there have to be mods to the board ?

It is possible. You will have to talk to Corbin because it will require a different amount of batteries.

Hi
I don't remember where that was either. [:)] My 3 watt drivers aren't really 3 watts per se. They're 1000mA (1amp) drivers. They adjust the voltage to maintain a constant amperage of 1000mA. The clash on impact drives the LED up to 1500 mA for a split second and shimmers back down to 1000mA over the course of a second.
By using about 1 volt more than what the LED actually requires, you're able to maintain a strong constant brightness and a good flash on impact. Since the 5 watters use just under 7V I believe, and still run around 1000mA, just supply it with something like 8 or 9V (a 9V battery doesn't have the amperage) and the "3 watt" driver suddenly becomes a "5 watt" driver.
The drivers are 1.25" wide by about 1.625" long. The sides can be CAREFULLY sanded down about 1/16" on each side to make it a bit narrower, but you should be careful not to go too deep or you'll screw up the circuitry. So if you can find room to put one into whatever saber you're buiding, it will work. I prefer to run them on at least 4 AAs. You can use AAAs too, but they won't last as long.

actually I'm on working on a flash blade that uses a tiny 4kv camera flash hooked up to a shock sensor

Interesting concept. I've got a few spare cameras hanging around... maybe I should try something like that. I’m sure it would be an incredible failure (My attempt that is), but cool none the less!

I've seen that mentioned but have failed to see any application of it. It's another thing to get in the way of light.[xx(]
