That's the full layout. Not really to scale but how I plan on putting the stuff in there. As long as it's not above 14" I won't have a problem with it.

It's affectionately known as "The Killer Penny" because of all the copper involved. It's going to have at the very least, a K2 LED, at the most
either a 10 watt prototype LED or 3 of the 3 watters with custom optics to allign all the beams together.

Two wooden sides made of Cocobolo with an aluminum/steel spine connecting to an ROTS vader-style emitter. I would have it made black chrome. The slot in the spine would be for a strand of White EL.

Woohoo, finally found the secret to the pre-rendered mhs parts.

the two on the right are obviously the same saber with different colored Leds and a slight variation to the overlay, this saber actually already exists and is just awaiting the sinktube overlay. Which sinktube style do u guys like better?

Personally, either one looks great, but I'm more drawn to the one on the left, but only slightly.

I've been lurking around the forums for some time now, drooling over the insanely awesome sabers and the skills of their designers as well as learning the basics and the lingo, so I thought I'd post up my own idea. As of yet I do not have my own sabre, save for a Hasbro Anakin RotS which I intend to gut for sounds at some point due to corroded power leads.

The hilt is to be all be all brushed aluminum, save for the inside of the upper emblem (what I call the Basis Cross, long story) and the backdrop of the lower emblem (the grip), which are to be of a gritty texture. I was planning on a white Atlas or Seoul P4, since the hilt is supposed to be of similar dimensions to Do-Clo's Atlas sabre (the upper half of my concept is a tad short, since I ran out of room). The blade would to be a 40" thin-walled with a double wrap of Erv's film, and some cellophane, set from 2.25-3.00" into the emitter. Not sure how I would drive the electronics. I was thinking of a Plecter Labs Crystal Focus v3.00, but I am unsure if it can support an Atlas. If not, I may end up going with a Lux V Cyan (preferably bin 3 or bin 4-ish, closer to an aqua color, leaning towards the blue)

Had to draw it on paper, since my computer drawing skills are sub-par. Not sure where to put the activation switch, but it will be recessed.

Hello people

I´ve just come up with an early sketch of what could end being my personal saber. Part MHS, part custom, I´d like to show it to you:

As you can see, there´s some MHS standard parts on it, like the slotted section with grips, a 2" section, and the ribbed section. Both the emitter and pommel sections come from a drawing I made last night on a sudden creativity burst (ok, not very creative, but I think the y both look good :wink: ). Blade color is amber, as pictured, and I would like to put a CF v3 into it for sound.

The two plain handled sabers are youngling sabers. They are as basic as can be, only an emitter, hilt style 3 (which was cut down in the drawing, but is fine at normal length), pommel 5, and a basic electronics package.

The first Big Hilt is Iridonian Padawan Tyven Josk's Saber. Entirely MHS.
The other Big Hilt is Jedi Master Rolun Kesh's Saber. Also MHS, save for the Emitter Shroud, which is a dremelized sink tube, and the wrap, which took influence from one seen on this page, (thx silentbob) which is going to be a rubber material my dad has in the garage.

Here's some hilts Im planning.

1st 1 is hilt about 15 inches long with a 30 inch TCSS battle blade & has a royal blue Lux3, I haven't decided on grip material yet, probly thin leather or ray skin. (parts for this 1 are on the way :) )

2nd is gonna be a real monster of a battle saber, 23.5 inch hilt with a 40 inch TCSS battle blade. Im hoping to get a red/orange Lux3 for this 1.

3rd is just an idea for a double Ive been thinking about, nothing decided yet

The only departures from the sketch you see are that I want to use tsuka-maki for the inner sleeve instead of the ribbed grip, and the quasi-Luke pommel you see has been scrapped in favor of a tapered pommel. The inner sleeve is black, the tsuki-maki is red and the blade is a red.

I'd be grateful to see this thing rendered somehow, so I can see if it will turn out how I think it will.

thats cool you could also do the really old school lightsaber with the power pack attached to it with the power cord like in the pic i havent seen one like that yet. or do the police baton style saber and put a few speakers in the extra handle to. just some stuff to look at.

Alpha & Omega: A two-part order from JQLightsabers. As I've yet to decide where my loyalties lie (to the Republic or the Emperor) I've opted to go for twin single-handed sabers, with the option of coupling them together using a custom choke piece (if it can be made). They'll be running a red and blue LuxIII from FX boards (Luke and Vader respectively), with a power regulator for a blade shimmer effect. These will be my first custom sabers :). The three switches will be Power (red), Shimmer Mode (grey) and Clash (black). The LEDs will be on plugs for a quick changeover, so I'll probably order the green one too.

I have a couple of other ideas in the pipeline too, if I get on with the sabers above, and I happen to find a large bag full of cash under the bed...

Yeah I know, all pretty basic stuff :?, but I don't (yet) have the experience to make anything any flashier. Hopefully one of the above (probably the Vindicator) will have a CF3 board and the brightest green LED I can get my hands on (a little research needed there). I think the Polaris would make a good display saber, but I'm not too sure about how 'practical' it would be, I'd imagine that the fins would get in the way, but they would shield the power button from accidental presses.

I dunno, it's all a bit of a pipe (arf :mrgreen:) dream at the moment, but we all have to start somewhere...

It has a couple of custom parts, like the ring near the pommel and the clamp/switch guard. Aside from that, the parts are (from left to right): Pommel #4, 4 inch extension lined with flat rubber grips, 2 inches extension, ribbed extension with inner rings painted flat black, and blade holder #5. And an amber blade, of course :D ... I have a doubt, though. Would a couple of double males be needed to assemble this one?

Here's a few sketches I've worked up so far for jedi and sith sabers. I'm going to be making a jedi saber for myself and a sith saber for my husband. I've worked on a few digital versions but they just didn't look right to me. The two jedi sabers are meant to have some brass sink tube overlays, and the sith sabers will be mostly equal parts black and chrome.

So here the design for my Sith saber Ultimate edition. I plan on having it made out of steal so that the curve can be a made without sacrificing strength. I'm thinking of contacting Bob from ALW about turning this one into reality, mainly because curved steal sabers are his forte. I just can't see this being able to be made out of anything else. If I'm wrong, please let's talk about the possibilities.

They're pretty different...but that's because I originally wanted a PT/OT style saber, and in the end I opted to make the saber slightly more PT (as you can see by the change in the grip style).

Well, after the Crystal Focus fiasco of mine a few months back, I decided that while that particular saber is going to go back to the drawing board a bit. My current projects, one for me, one for my brother, are less ambitious. The internals are going to be pretty well identical: 4.8v 2600 mAh batteries from TCSS through recharge ports, running US2 boards and K2s. My blade will be green, his will be blue. Mine uses a D-ring, since I have the grips on there and I don't feel like trying to replace them. No powdercoating, extra LEDs, clash lights, crystal chambers, or anything else on either of them, too. Keeping a sense of simplicity with these. (That and I'd actually like to build something that, y'know, works, before I start getting all fancy.) :rolleyes:

Concept for my "bells and whistles" saber. Once I get my hands on the body, I'll be able to judge better what can fit, but currently I'm thinking either another US2 board, with 14500s in the 4 AA holder or a custom double 18650 pack, Lux 5 cyan from luxeonstar.com, and, with the room in the new version of pommel 3, I think I can fit a recharge port in there.

I might replace the guarded switch with a regular pushbutton, add a long-shank tactile switch right below it, and that would let me drop in the wounded CF3 I have - the more I look at it, the more I think it'll still work. (If, by some miracle, I score a CF4, then it's a done deal.) At that point, I might get real fancy and drop in a main power 5mm LED and "recharge me, dummy!" 5 mm LED. That'll probably require using the 18650s, though.

The emitter and choke point in copper with clearcoat, the ribbed section in gloss black with yellow O-rings, the hilt and pommel in chrome with clearcoat, and the brass Covertec button.

Update of an earlier concept - it's a little more ROTJ Luke-ish, now, but still semi-original looking. Added the MPP clamp, got rid of the O-rings. Instead, I'll be painting the indents of the grooved secton with gold paint - I'll probably try Testors, since I'm not sanguine about my masking abilities for the spray-on paint Bubbalew found. I may buy a "spare" section for testing purposes. Pommel and lower hilt are still chrome p/c'd with clearcoat, ribbed section is wet black with the gold, and choke and blade holder are bronze/copper with clear coat.

Internals will be a CF 4.1 (Erv willing, if I don't score one I'll try the 3.1 I have), 4x 14500s (Whee! Tim stocks 'em!) with recharge port (I'm thinking about putting this back on the hilt, probably will if I can find the space), TCSS speaker (obviously), quad-wrapped Corbin show blade, and a royal blue Lux V. (I'll probably still get the cyan and put both LEDs on a quick-disconnect, plus the green Lux V I have lying about, since cyan = win.) Both the switches will be momentaries mounted in the MPP clamp paralell to the saber body.

My next saber, I got a few details to work out like if I want to keep it all silver or not and that sort of thing, but the basic look is pretty much completed.

I was going for a combo of obi and qui gon ep1s and tossed in my bit of me to say that I was a padawan of obis during the clone wars, kinda like how ahsoka is to Anakin.

But enought babbling about the back story, on the 3rd image of the saber is an access plate, I will take it off and I can access batteries or an sd card or what have you, But the most important thing is that it will open up to show a crystal chamber of my own design. Sound board options Iam not sure of yet, I would love to use a CF but I dont think I want to go thru the hassle of setting up for another switch so I dont know what sound function I would go with right now.

Edit I just realized that the switch would be in the way of the led assembly so I redid it a bit.

1st test render with a cyan blade. just some info for those interested, photoshop was not used at all in these. Also, the blade had to be lit with 24 volumetric point lights, much like an MR blade. a single light didn't give me the results I was happy with. Right now I'm rendering another image of Defiance on a display stand with a plaque. I'll post it here when its done.

the final image attached is a bit artsy, but it shows off some nice chrome.

anyway, its a bit ambitious. the glowing wires would be EL or fiber optic and the bargraph would be specially ordered and not a bubble-strip bargraph like on Defiance. the black ribbon over the grip piece would be clamped on both sides.
Sound would be a US 2.5 since the CF's are as hard to get as the crown jewels.

But this is the initial concept, subject to change where technology allows.

Heres what my MHS saber will look like. From the Pommel to Blade Holder: MPS Pommel Style 7, Hilt Style 1 with standard switch hole, MHS Choke Style 1 Short, and blade holder style 9. It will have a red luxIII from the kit, 32 inch TCSS style battle blade. How does the saber look so far? I might use the baseball bat tape for grips again cause it would actually look cool on this saber. I'll be getting this saber/LUXIII kit/blade in a few weeks.

Unforitly Genaron1 didnt work out too well... it looked cosmetically pleaseing.. but i couldn't stand to grabbing it. far to big.. a 1.5 with 1 3/4 PVC shell.. just too big. so im going down to 1.25 and making some HUGE modifications. i still would like to keep the grill thing near the switch. but using the PSU grill is just too clunky. i
m going with a more lower profile look. I'm thinking of putting a hole in the sink tube itself and installing the mesh on the inside and having a little see thu area. i would also have to fortify this section of sink tube otherwise it would be a massively weak point and would be fairly embarrassing to swing my sith-style blade and the hilt do a doku on me.

ok, this one looks very basic, and it really is, but i don't mind, this is going to be a tribute saber to Miyamoto Musashi, who was, perhaps, the greatest duelist in all of japanese history...

it's gonna be a 12" section of 1.5" sink tube, with mhs adapters for the pommel and blade emitter. over all length is close to 14 inches, and it will incorporate EL wire in conjunction with a katana wrap, and a white (silver) LED.
so without any further delays, i present, the Miyamoto tribute concept.

Do you plan on making that design, because I LOVE it. I wouldn't copy it millimeter for millimeter, but I would certainly like to base my next saber on some of the concepts you have created here. I think it looks like something Starfleet would make if the lightsaber existed in Star Trek.

If you're just using a 1.25" sinktube as the main hilt body, you could use a 1-1/8" chrome plug. S'what they're meant for! :)

You might want to consider leaving it on. You can actually make a nice pommel using the threaded end combined with a chrome plug. You can make it look less like plumbing by adding section of 1.5" sink tube over the flared section.

Here is my next hilt. It will have: Hilt style 2 with standard switch hole, double ended male threaded connector, MHS ribbed extention, screw on LED blade holder style 16, and MPS pommel style 2. The electronics will be a LUXIII red/orange resistor driven with AA batts, 32 inch long TCSS style battle blade, gonna also have a red thumb screw from TCSS. The pommel, main body, male connector, and ribbed extention will be painted gloss black with Krylon spray paint except the blade holder will be left silver. What do you guys think? I'm also looking to get SaberSound 1.0 for this saber and also for my brother's saber as well. Any wiring diagrams would be helpful if possible. I know you guys don't like that soundboard but I want to give it a try.

Well, some time ago, the idea of an old almost proto saber by Jango fett interested me, and I decided to explore this concept.
I quickly found that it'd be difficult to build it because of its illuminated switch location, but I like the idea. I imagine a white blade and sith sound for a time when sith warriors blade colors were not necessary red (just an idea for the background story of the saber).
I'm not sure about the coating color, maybe an oxydated copper or iron ??

If someone thinks the switch location is no problem, tell me

I have had some parts on order from TCSS for a week or so and here is the design I am planning. The sink tube cutting may be different. I like the sith1 and I would like to build this one when I can afford the parts. Any coments appreciated.

Its going to have a LUXIII amber, Graflex style grips, a 30 inch TCSS battle blade, not sure on anything else. Hope you guys like my design. I will get it done eventually. The name will be The Stinger because the color scheme is my old school's colors, black and yellow.And it will also have a D-ring clip.

Thanks Mihunai, thats what my idea was basically. Won't there be a space between the two sinktubes though? I will let you know when I atleast got the hilt made and will post pics. Will most likely be next Tuesday After I do my thing at GuitarCenter buying my new Dean Dimebag Shadow ML guitar.

Please forgive the crudity of the sleeve render. Had to do that by hand in PSP.

I also realize the blade retention screw needs to be higher on the blade holder, and the ct wheel is upside down. Didn't notice that till after I'd completed the render. Sadly, since I completed it in PSP, too late to go back and fix those issues (the retention screw, maybe, but the ct wheel would be a challenge. Seems a lot of extra work for what is essentially a concept render.

You should put your retention screw on the other side of the Bladeholder so that it pushes the blade on to the long side, which is stronger.

Ah okay, At first I wasn't quite sure about the retention screw. I was aware that it simply presses against the polycarb blade to hold it in place but for some reason it baffles me that ll it takes is a little pressure to hold a blade thats going to be used in heavy dueling in place :)

I'm going for an old republic sith look, refined, simple. I actually want to do an overlay but I have to look into them more. If I were to do an overlay it would most likely be a jagged design made of copper as I love the slightly patina'd look. The design would be something that would wrap around the midsection of the hilt like its engulfing it, somewhat like getting poured onto it. I'll try to do a render of what I have in mind with photoshop.

The second one is exactly identical to the one that I ordered/is being built right now, except I used pommel 6, which is slightly rounder. It's also going to have copper PC in the middle section, between the rings. (SH43)

So needless to say...I like design #2 :)

Here's my first render that I came up with using some of the Render Parts V2 from ArkaiHalon's post... Would like to build this as my first saber.

Uses 1.25" and 1.5" sink tube, the 1.25" sink tube blade holder, 1.25" to MHS and pommel 4 and switch box 4... The grips are made up of anterior cervical plates used in spinal fusions. I'd use tailpiece washers to keep the 1.5" tube spaced out evenly from the 1.25" tube.

My first custom saber.

Central piece is 1.25" sink tube with a half overlay by a 1.5" sink tube. Grip is combination of parachute cord and a sheet of rubber. Hidden activation switch under the parachute cord. Gonna need some serious Dremel-fu and File-kwon-do. This is a LONG term project designed to push my limits. I'll start with a simply LED saber for internal guts then gradually upgrade to include recharge port, flash-on-clash, shimmer, sound via microcontroller, etc....ya, definitely a long-term project, lol. Nothin gets me out of bed in the morning like a serious challenge!

Thinking of starting a thread to follow the project as it evolves....
