Just ordered the parts for my first saber and wanted to see what people thought.

It's going to use a Lux 3 white with a "pink" filter and a 1000 mA buck. No sound modules or anything fancy. And yeah.. I know it's pink.. That's what she wanted... =p

Basically, I haven't made one of these yet, but the one I want to make myself is much more complex so I'm making a simpler one for her first.

Here's the design. Let me know what you think!

Note on the image: I'm having wet black powder coat put in the indents of the hilt as well as the middle section of the choke.

UPDATE: Alright, it's here! It's done. Hurrah!

Here's the finished product. This was my first experience tapping screw holes so it was a little interesting.
I didn't quite keep them as even as I wanted around the blade holder but they are almost perfectly 120 degrees apart. I was proud of that part. The switch is the only part of this i don't like. I'd prefer an anti-vandal but we all know about the size problems there.

So again this is a Lux 3 white with a pink filter and a battle corbin blade. The blade could stand to "diffuse" a little more but since it was my first, I didn't want to try making my own. Also I am ordering Lee filters to improve the color and will likely replace this with a P4 in the semi-near future. I'd also like to add a US board.

So without further ado, here are the pictures:

The pictures make it look more purple than pink but it looks like white-pink in reality. Like I said, I'm not happy with the color quite yet. Ordering Lee filters for that.

So what do you think? Too terrible for a first saber?

Looks good, the wet black powder coating will add a nice touch. I expect to see photos once you've finished it!

Nice design. I made a pink bladed saber for my oldest daughter except I used a prolight RGB LED (connected R and B together to voltage). Turned out pretty nice...she loves it anyway.

its the bottom one in the pic below. The purple one I made with the same LED but a resistor on the red.

Just for next time Nyx, The P4 whites use the same voltage as a lux 3 white but are much brighter. Even though they aren't in stock yet you might want to wait and get one of those.

The P4 whites are awesome with the correct current going to them. At lower currents the K2s are brighter, but the P4 stomps the K2 at the higher currents.

im using a P4 through an MR board and believe me its bright. for the heck of it i wired into my obi wan conversion and it was pretty cool... but then i took it out cuz a blue P4 is going in. get some lee filters... the work alot better then tcss filters or so i have heard. i just sent in for a swatch booklet. witch is free and comes with THOUSANDS of colors and you can make two filters from every card...

To get a good rich pink, I've had good luck with a red filter.

This is a white P4, and for the filter, I used a circle of red plastic cut from the box a Hasbro Vader came in. Like DJ says, if you get the Lee filter swatch book, there are many shades of red and pink, so you can get the exact color you want.

Use this form, and tell them you would like a sample swatch book. Give them a couple of weeks, and they'll mail it to you for free.

Edit to add one last tip for you: The Lee filters are thin enough that once you get the one you like, they can sit on the inside of the lip in the blade holder, right up against the lens, (as opposed to sitting on the blade side of the lip). That way, the filter won't fall out when you take the blade out.
