Great work, however if you want to make it look a bit more authentic, I suggest you take a look here.

As well, on most up close photos I see, 3PO only has 3 main lights in his eyes.

Well you could always make the entire eye assembly like in that link... Then you could cut out holes for that... But it's up to you.

Nice job man, but it will help you a lot if you read up on wiring in series, you would run wires from one led to the next, instead of a - and + from the batteries all the way up to each eye. This saves you materials ($) and space (very helpful once you are constrained by size limits of tubes).

I really didn't pay any attention to the pictures of the wiring. Tradeliphine is correct, you could have used just one set of wires to do the job. Still looks great though. I am trying to figure out what I can do to pimp out an interactive R2D2 droid.

It's cool, but it could have been better if you'd done more research first (number of LEDs he has in his eyes, how to wire LEDs in series) before jumping into it.

i though about series. but then i decided against it. i guess i should have done that.. and ya i might totally re-do the eyes later. but for now i like it. i just wanted his eyes to light up. it was just a spur of the moment project...

So that's why Han nicknamed him Goldenrod. :D

Good job with the eyes. I half-remember hearing that wiring in series means the light gets uneven between bulbs when the battery dies down compares to parallel, though that's from electronics GCSEs ten years ago...

What's the next step? Build an R2 unit?

I understand everyone is giving criticism, but... I disagree with most of it. *I* think it was a good job, DJ. A good first step. And a LOT less expensive and time-consuming vs. the servo one.

Sure... the servo one is a GREAT example--and pimped out... but... sometimes simple & cheap (but effective) is where it's at.

well thanks novastar. i like the critisism. its more helpfull with critisism because then i know what i should have done... thus learning... so thanks everyone. i had alot of fun doing this... :p;)

you know you arent locked in, you could probably cut out the new holes for the 3 light pattern and use the plugs you cut out to plug the other holes you dont want, unless someone gets in close they wouldnt notice, especially with the lights on. And you could practice soldering by redoing it as series. Not saying it cant stay the way it is, just givin ya some practice ideas ;)

thats a good idea. or i could cut the entire eye out and make new eyes using like a bicycle reflector or something. ill the way it is for now. i have to focus on upgrading my lightsaber for our trip to the san juans islands this weekend. ny apprentice is coming.

I like it DJMB, I am not a big "cannon-o-phile". You could rewire it in series if you wanted, but you could also just leave it.;-)
