Im gonna be making some 8 stage LED ignitors similar to that I used in my 100 LED Darth maul project. For those confused my the eight stage comment, this just means it will light up the blade in eight sections giving the power up power down apperance. Each stage can handle about 10 Led's and runs off a 9v.

Anyone interested let me know and I'll sus out the price.

Yep, thats my Mauler project. Im making the new ignitors on PCB so will be quite compact. Im going for long rather than wide. probably about the size of a stick of dimes.

sounds pretty cool, do you have even a rough estimate on price?

How does one heat sink all those LED's? While I'm aware they probally don't put out as much heat as a Luxeon. The sheer amount of them would seem to neccitate some sort of heat sinking. I supose you could use a aluminum plate to solder the together, instead of a breadboard or just wire.

Those type of leds do not require any heat sinks as the operating current is very low around 20 ma.

Exactly what Do-Clo said before. They are too small to create enough heat. Even in a long string it is spread out and doesn't add up to anything.

<center>Read the FAQ (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=552) or x-wing won't be happy. :(
Before posting did you check the Thread Index (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=577)?.

Sorry I don't know why it double posted. Well I guess i need to try and make an LED chain then. Any reccomenadions on size or viewing angle. I have seen 3mm, 5mm, and 10mm with 15 degrees and 30 degree angles as being the main ones. Of course thier are some high flux ones with 180 degree viewing angle.

The wider the angle the better it will look as you are trying to spread the light to fill the inside of the blade.

Thanks. One more question you can refuse to awnser it if you want. I know your trying to sell these. But can you post a wiring schematic of your driver board in
http://www.instructables.com/ex/i/AAF8760208351029BC4A001143E7E506/?ALLSTEPS
tutorial. I understand how to program the chip. Just not sure how to wire the rest of the board. Of course you can just say "No figure it out, that's why I'm selling these."

The person you need to ask is jmumby, he is the one who built that project.

For those interested in this type of lightsaber contruction I have posted a new thread in the Jedi Counsel Forums. I figured that was the best place to have this discussion. here is the link

For a circuit board layout for the 8 stage ignitor have a look here http://blog.myspace.com/jason_mumby .If you still want one fully assembled you are probably looking at about US$30.

This will give the ignitor board. You can reprogram the board with free software and gives you 8 outputs I have run 100 leds off this board. You will have to make the LED blade yourself.

My instuctables article gives you details of how to make the blade.

Thanks.

Jason
