o-o
That worked out too perfectly. Without understanding the science involved, I'd guess it's him going through the motions with music overlaid...
But insanely cool.
(And I notice it didn't say "Do not try this at home". Now to find a tesla coil... )

EDIT::
With second thought, what kind of maniac plays with LIGHTNING!?

If only I could have a Tesla Coil for BOP III.

I'm sure it would fit in my trunk.
It would probably be fairly inexpensive.
Logistics would be bloody SIMPLE.
Power consumption at a minimum.
Musical notes could be pre-programmed for the wavelength frequencies.
Costume choices would be limited, but--hey!--that solves the "what to choose" issues...

Ummmmmmmmm... On second thought...

Yes and no. You're right that the guy in the chainmail isn't controlling the music, he is just going through the motions. However, the music isn't just being overlaid. It's actually being generated by the tesla coil by altering the pulse frequency of the sparks. Very cool stuff.

I love people who try dumb things so we can...

a) Laugh at them when they mess up:D
b) Be amazed when they suceed:shock:
c) Pray that's the last dumb thing they try.

ELECTRICITY IS AWESOME!!!!

I invented that. Not really, but I like how they got the notes to sound relatively accurate to the movie. It's cool.
And novastar, I'm sure you could fit one of those in your trunk, lol.

Which is impressive, but I would love to see someone figure out a way to play a tesla coil like an instrument.

Um, they do. That's how that was done. The guy just decided to get in on the act, he doesn't have anything to do with the actual sound of the notes.

Check out some of these YouTube videos:
