what type of buck puck do I use if I want to run a red luxeon III LED? Because I looked on the resistor chart and red lux III's run at 1500mA and there are 1000mA and 700 mA buck pucks. None of them are big enough to run a lux. III red:confused: do I use more than one? I also would like to add that I want to be able to change LED colors (red to green). Thanks Spyden.

If you wanted to wire 2 700mA buck pucks together to get around 1400mA, that's too much current for a green LED, since the greens, blues and whites only want 1000mA.

I have 2 sabers with different puck set ups. One has 2 700mA pucks wired in parallel, that I can use red and amber in, the other has a 1000mA puck that I can use blue, green and white in.

Thanks J-Lo! I might go with a different color then.

Oooorrrrr, you could use a LedEngin green which would LOVE to have 1400ma to suck on.:)

Would it be overkill to use the 1000mA and the 700mA in parallel with a red Lux III? Or is the 1400mA close enough? I'm planning on doing the same thing and don't want to fall short.

I think it would be a little too much to push 1700mA to the reds/R-O's/ambers.

1400mA in parallel is bright for the red lux III, I too have a saber wired that way and it is plenty bright.

Here's a picture of exactly 1400mA going to my red Lux III in a pitch black room. http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=7368 It's the last picture...I'm not sure if it shows as thumbnails or filenames on your computron .

This is a side note here, depending on the sound you may be choosing:

I'd have to research this a little more but, I definitely remember seeing some incredible mA outputs on the FX soundboards. So, if you're going to be using FX sound, you may get the 1500mA out of it (and be able to bypass the buckpuck altogether). But maybe that's for another time in your saber building life.

I would like to be able to use an FX board but haven't figured out how to get one into my saber yet. I might just skip it all together as long as I can get the driver board to work I'll be happy with that. Thanks!

Personally, I'm running my Red LuxIII on a 1000 Buck. Its probably slightly less than it actually wants, but I still get a good blade. And I have the option of changing out to a different LuxIII if I want.

Cant put a 1a and 700ma togeather, last I knew.
