yeah i made it myself from a kit i bought over in branson missouri. its a all cherry wood with 30 dollar keys the guy threw in for free. its a teardrop style. my son when he was in the fifth grade, played it in his school talent show, and got first place, i taught himm a lil ditty on it. i still have it too. someplace around here, lol lets see, that thing would be, nearly 20 years old now. it was fun to build it too. the bridge and nut was plastic, so threw them out and got some purpleheart and made a bridge and nut from that. sounded sweet too.

I'v got a small setup of my own. I have a small Taskam 4-track Cassett recorder. The problem is I can only play drums (well) and there's not alot you can record if you can only play the drums, can't sing, and are tone deaf.[:(]

I've been playing drums for 15yrs. Not so much so lately...[:(]
I can play a little Bass and even less gutar.
I am trying to get in to learning the Piano, but not getting very far in that.

I have a pic of my set... I'll try and dig it out.
Edit: Found it!

Is that a Ludwig Vista-Lite set? A drummer I was in several bands with had a Single-bass red Vista-lite kit and a matching stainless steel kit. Both had 24" bass, 12", 13", 16",& 18" toms. Hang on to 'em, man, they will only appreciate in value![:D]

Firebird21
04-09-2006, 10:16 AM
str8, I would love to jam!

I'll warn you, I'm getting rusty. If you want just come out here to get the saber... We can also fix your Hasbro issue too. 3 birds with one stone.

This set is a POS! Don't get me wrong, I love it and I have no intensions of getting rid of it, but it's held together with chewing gum and bailing wire. It needs a LOT of TLC.

I just do what I can so I can still play it. Notice the Bass drums don't have 2 heads? It's because all the lugs were used to replace all the other broken ones. (Cheap plastic)

About the drum set... (long and boring)
I got it for my birthday in 6th grade. It was just the Bass, Snare and Toms. Not even a Stool. My parents got it used at the local music store.

Well I eventually got some cymbals and off I went playing to CDs and Tapes and so-on and so-forth.
Boring story, short... I started playing Metalica a lot and I needed a Double Bass.

So I went back to the music store and looked around in there "Misc. room-o-junk and low and behold I found...

A Vista-Light Bass drum! That's all there was, the bass. So I ask about it...

They said they got it from a guy that had the rest of the set, never used the Double Bass, put it away, eventually sold the set, and forgot about this Bass.

He found it one day and decided to bring it to where he sold the rest of the set to. This Music store (Gordon's music).

So this Bass drum did belong to this set, got separated, and then reunited by the off chance that I got to rummage in the store's junk room.

So now I have a complete double bass Ludwig Vista-Light drum set, one of the most rare drum sets out there (but far from the most coveted). It's just a shame that I (being a teenager at the time) let it get this crappy.
Now I just don't have the interest in it that I did.

I started with guitar in 2nd grade, but haven't played it in decades.

Started trombone in 3rd grade, and pretty much played solid through high school and in various pick-up jazz groups until 1983. I still play the t-bone occasionally, although not nearly as often as I should.

Nowadays I sit with one of my shakuhachi flutes when I need tonal meditation. I don't know any traditional music for the shakuhachi, nor have I had any formal training. I just go with where my fingers move and my breath takes the tones.

I own a few guitars, but haven't really been into plying since I was a wee lad of 18 or 19. I own a '1990 fender HM strat, but not the crappy Japanese one, this one was actually made in the USA, has the standard head stock, and a telecaster pick guard. I have looked them up online but I have never found a photo of the same model I have. I also have a 1963 Gibson SG, unfortunately nothing is original on it. My uncle bought it while he was in the Navy when I was seven(I'm 33 now) and it was the original the 3 tone tobacco sunburst with a bigsby floating bridge, like the chet atkins used to have. He sold it to one of his musician friends who in turn stripped it, sold the original gold plated tuning heads, the wonderful bridge, and then STAINED it hot pink. The guy was a douche bag. For my graduation my uncle bought it back(for $150) and replaced everything with new gibson parts and painted it a glossy black. It looks sweet, but its only worth about $600 bucks compared to the $3000 bucks it would be if it was still in the condition that he originally bought it in.

I have nothing against them either, I guess I did call them crap though. It is just odd because all the research I did on the the HM/HR series were Japanes made, mine is somewhat of an anomaly.

Good to see a few fellow bass players! I started on guitar like four or five years ago but changed to bass about three years ago. Still play some guitar, just not as much.
I also am teaching myself to play cello.

Currently I have a black squire p-bass (which will have emgs in it soon) and a silver ibanez GIO soundgear. I'm planning on putting a high string on the ibanez and tuning it like a cello.

I play through a GK Goldline 2x10 cab with a GK Backline 250 head. I also use a 10 watt Crate practice amp.

I ordered my Cecilio cello from austinbazzar.com.

I've played piano since I was about 5. In Jr. High, I started to learn percussion and eventually began to specialize in keyboard percussion and timpani. I've recently started to learn french horn and organ. I've also been a good singer all my life and have been in several high school choirs (including the chamber choir) and a couple of university choirs. I'm still in a community symphony and plan on being in some type of musical group all my life.

Been playing Bass Clarinet for 3 1/2 years. Got into guitar about 6 months ago, mainly playing my Bass Clarinet concert/marching band music on it.

02-19-2009, 02:53 PM
What're you talkin' about? The most man-worthy instrument would have to be the piccolo.

Darth Siggious
02-19-2009, 03:59 PM
Hmm, piccolo and triangle are very macho instruments. ;)

I played the clarinet in third grade until the music teacher told me I sucked at reading music but always came in at the exact right spot...and I've been playing the drums ever since, for about the last 20 years.

And I still suck at readng music, but I found out that you don't need to do that to play guitar in a rock band (it's just a shame that everyone's getting married and having kids, we went from steadily playing shows to not even practicing anymore).

So, drums, guitar, clarinet, and recently I've been messin with electronic keyboards, they're fun...no saber sounds though :(, at least not on my model.

This is one of those threads that is OK to ressurect, as long as you can add to it.

For instance, Novastar just kicked me in the butt to hook up my recording gear again:D

Hmm, piccolo and triangle are very macho instruments. ;)

I played the clarinet in third grade until the music teacher told me I sucked at reading music but always came in at the exact right spot...and I've been playing the drums ever since, for about the last 20 years.

And I still suck at readng music, but I found out that you don't need to do that to play guitar in a rock band (http://www.wordsiseek.com/rock-bands/) (it's just a shame that everyone's getting married and having kids, we went from steadily playing shows to not even practicing anymore).

So, drums, guitar, clarinet, and recently I've been messin with electronic keyboards, they're fun...no saber sounds though :(, at least not on my model.

Which your most favorite rock band so far? Mine is Beatles and i love to listne their music.
