One could argue that the whole lot would be classified as Grey Jedi. If that's the case, then I am right there too.

That of course brings up the all time great debate. Light Dark Good Evil I reckon that for story and movie purposes you still rely on the old black and white silent film logic. Bad guy vs Good guy, Jolie Bindo, Qui-Gon Jinn and others start blurring that line and it mmakes life complacated. Just like it should be.

I'm getting wicked tired so I would love to continue but it will have to wait.

Ugh. This is why I hate what they did to the Force in the end of the NJO. In previous books, they had specifically shown the dark side as an actual entity, trying to ensnare the Jedi. Now it doesn't exist? Gimme a break... We know from the book Survivor's Quest that you can still acknowledge the two sides of the force and be merrily in love.

What is darkness but the absence of light? The ABSENCE of light. An entity on itself it is not.

May that topic rest in peace[xx(]

The whole concept of light/dark or good/bad is a matter of perspective anyway depending on who you ask you will get a differnt answer. Anakan told Obi Wan that he thought the Jedi were evil from his point of view. Obi Wan thought the sith to be evil from his point of view.

This is real life the line between good and bad can become very blurred, the Jedi were the peace keepers but the Sith brought order. Besides the Sith had cooler looking sabers anyway. [8D]

No, no, no. I remember reading in Shadows of the Empire that the dark side was an actual entity, one that Luke recognized. It was described as something like a creeping animal. I'll have to look it up.

Anyway, this isn't about the nature of good and evil, it's about the nature of the force and whether or not it's actually defined as light and dark.
According to the logic of "darkness is the abscence of light", then Dark Side-users should have no power at all, because the power itself is absent.

Wow this like totally spun off in to lala land. The main thing I was trying to do is get everyone to stop posting comments in the Topics that were designed for just putting in info about yourself. If you look at http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=71&whichpage=1
and
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9&whichpage=5 we started dropping comments in there and I liked when I first jumped in here just reading through the "registry" seeing where everyone was from and what they were in to. I don't think it was heading that way but I sure don't want to start up another one of those deals since I am the most unarmed fool on this site when it comes to religion. My boss loved it, he would send me to do work at any place of worship and not have to worry about it. I digress, point is we can talk smack in the Misc folder all day long, let's keep the welcome folders clean okeeday?[:D]

What the heck? I was in no way talking about religion... I was talking about the NJO, and what the "true" view of the Force is, separate from real-world good and evil.

I wasn't directing that to you dude, I was really enjoying the conversation and I don't think that would open up the can-o-worms that was mentioned before but since it was a concern I wanted to address it. I know pretty much all of you have more experence with these forums and chat then I do, so I would just as soon keep the peace as I am learning the proper etiquette (?) of postings and such. As far as I know there are a few folks that read the books and may have an opinion on the NJO, the force and all that good stuff but I don't want anyone feeling like if we make a statement that MAY be argued from another more "Earthbound" view like religion or politics the $#^ is going to hit the fan. That one topic that was brought up got somewhat serious and I stopped reading it just because I like to get on here and talk smack about sabers, Star Wars, and fun BS. Ten years in D.C. took all the politics, religion, and fight out of me as far as arguement goes. With that said,

I'm still wondering myself. It would still seem to me that the dark side is something tangible. I reckon I'm a little to blue collar to maybe really understand or something but from the original set of movies and the new set of movies the force is like the atoms/energy/electrical field that all living things generate. I don't know, it gets confusing for me. what was I talking about? Now is time for a good O'Neillism:"I'd like to apologize in advance for anything I may say or do that could be construed as offensive as I slowly go nuts!"

According to the Shadows of the Empire novel, the Dark Side is an actual entity, though not neccessarily sentient by any means.

Maybe I'm just full of snitz, but it seems to me that were there actually a "force" with a light & dark side, the light side would be used for constructive purposes i.e. insight, clairvoyance, etc. , and the dark side for battle and such.

anyway, its just a thought[B)]
