I have some time on my hands and wanted to check out the new parts in the store, so I placed an order so I can build another saber with some chrome accents. I started with this stuff:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/69fde91c.jpg
What you see there is the new style 13 blade holder, a 2" choke, a fluted hilt section, and an MPS style 7. The electronics are an MR Anakin Skywalker ROTS soundboard, a metal push button switch, a 4-AAA battery holder, an MPS speaker mount v2, and a standard 1" .5 watt 8 ohm speaker. The led is going to be a green Seoul P4.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/31e5f661.jpg
The led could esily be changed to either a blue P4, or a bin 1 Cyan Lux III.

The chrome tube you see there is going to be used to create some chrome accent pieces.
I cut the chrome tube into a few pieces on my mitre saw using the metal cut-off wheel. Here's where the first piece is going to go:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/5cd76e50.jpg
That looks good....now to cut one for the switch area.....
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/22cb5cac.jpg
I marked it and drilled for the switch hole:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/ceaaf7eb.jpg
I plan on making a hole large enough to also allow the recessed area around the switch hole visible, and started with the 3/8" bit, then moved up to a 3/4":

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/0eafdc01.jpg
I de-burred everything, first with the rotary tool, then by hand with some 400 grit sandpaper:

I test fit it:

Okay, that looks good....

Yeah, I'm liking these new parts! I especially like the blade holder and pommel....

I got everything deburred, and did a test fit of the hilt pieces:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/39c299dc.jpg
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/103ba0b9.jpg
The chrome piece near the pommel will have to be held in place by some epoxy adhesive because of the pommel threads in that section of the hilt.

I wired up the electronics:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/777ff4d1.jpg
And test fired it:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/141ccd76.jpg
Cool....now I can start assembly:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/a1052df8.jpg
I drilled and tapped a hole for an 8-32 button-head screw directly opposite the switch to help hold the chrome piece in place....I didn't want to make a mess with the epoxy here with having some of the hilt exposed. It wasn't a problem on the pommel end because of the chrome piece being right at the end of the hilt.

I installed the rest of the hilt components:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/56e2bf5f.jpg
And made sure it still worked:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/4cfa4bc4.jpg
Wow, that's bright! I like the shade, too....it's a bin 4. Now to decide if I want to use a thumbscrew or the set-screw:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/8118444d.jpg
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/7507bd1f.jpg
It's drilled and tapped for 10-32 threads, so it can use either one....I think i like the looks of the set screw....

Have you tried an aluminum thumb screw to see how it would look?

Jay-gon Jinn

I don't have an aluminum thumbscrew to try it...I do have a brass one though....anyway, I drilled an tapped for the CT wheel:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/52924db6.jpg
It's kind of offset on the side of the hilt there, because there isn't much material inside the fluted grooves to drill and tap. This might make it easier to cross-draw or even right-hand draw the saber from a belt.

I also went over itwith my polishing cloth, and shined it up a bit:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/Chrome%20Saber%209/c5aa39d4.jpg
I just need to hone out the blade socket and assemble the UltraEdge blade then I'll take some "beauty" shots of it tomorrow, and maybe make a short video, too.

Hey, nice Jay! I really like what you did with the chrome tube. It makes the saber look newly constructed. Good work!:D

Thanks guys! I had intended the look of this one to be of an older, almost KOTOR-Era look to it....I think it works for that!

I got the blade socket all honed-out and popped in my UltraEdge test blade:

Overall, I think it turned out pretty well....I'll take some better pics of it tomorrow!

Very sharp Jay, I do like the look of the new parts you used.

The blade is really nice and evenly lit, what is an UltraEdge blade? I'm not familiar with it...

*Scratch that, just saw a discussion about them in another thread :)

I like this combination of parts, it's almost like they were designed for each other!

Pretty sick! It looks REALLY good Jay-Gon! Not a fan of the switch though. Those simple sink tube accents really do a lot for the saber.

That switch might not be the prettiest thing in the world, but it works like a "bastid" (a little Rhode Island there for ya). VERY secure, and durable.

Absolutely awesome. It feels a bit Kyle-Katarn-ish. I think this is my favorite combination of MHS pieces I've seen yet...it really does feel like the pieces were MEANT to be mated this way...I love it! Of course, your sinktube accents really help out the hilt..it wouldn't be quite the same without the accents where you placed them.

I think two words perfectly sum up this hilt for me: "DO WANT!"

PS: four more words: "FAVORITE MHS HILT EVARRRR!!!!!!!!"

Why does no one else like that switch? I think it gives it that old-tech look....like it was from a 1000 years ago, or something...and yes, it works great, and is metal to boot....it also has a soft-touch to it....you'd really have to feel it youraelf though to get what I'm talking about.

Normally, I'd have it set lower in the hilt, too, but this style of saber has the soundboard directly underneath it, so it had to be up as far as it could go.

I think that it seems to tall. looks like it stands up a half inch. Some sabers, it looks great, others, just doesnt' seem to fit. this one, it's a fifty fifty

I think you misunderstood me, I love this switch and also think it gives it an old tech look. I do set mine lower when I use them though. Its not "pretty" is all Im saying. Kinda like a truck, they're cool, rugged and can be "nice" looking, but rarely have I seen a "pretty" truck.

I really like the saber so the switch isn't too much of an issue to me, but if I had to point out the one criticism I have of the saber, it would be that the stalk is a bit tall. I do like the way the switch looks in general...but I think it would look even nicer with a shorter stalk...which I also understand is something that you don't really have control over.

No mis-understanding, I know what you meant...it's a tough switch, and it also doesn't cause that annoying power cycle in an MR if you bump it while the saber is on. I also said that the design of this saber doesn't allow me to set it any deeper in the hilt because the soundboard is directly beneath it. In most of my other sabers that I have used it in, I set it as low as possible, like this:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/My%20Polished%20Brass%20MHS%20and%20Sinktube%20Sab er/000_0748.jpg
Here's the two next to each other:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/My%20Polished%20Brass%20MHS%20and%20Sinktube%20Sab er/836e9184.jpg

I use a similar button on BS-1, but because that saber is designed differently, I didn't have to have the soundboard under the button....I could set the switch almost 1/4" lower in the hilt than on CS-9. It's just how it worked out...BS-8 was the same way....the choke limits you to putting the soundboard inside the main hilt section, and with the battery pack in there too, there was no other location for the soundboard, except underneath the switch.

Dang it all Jay-gon... you always make such nice and clean-looking sabers!
