This is a great diffuser. It makes the blade look very blue compared to a double wrap film diffuser. It makes the light in the blade very even, not like other diffusers where it is very bright at the bottom and top. I had a customer, a member of the 501st that does alot of saber combat, that wanted the blade to be the color of the main LED when the saber was not turned on, to make it easy to tell who was jedi and who was sith. I am very pleased with the results. It even looks awesome in direct daylight, you can't see much of the LED light, but the sun kinda makes it glow. Below I am comparing it to a double wrap film diffuser.

I like the look of that stuff, for the reasons you stated and it kind of gives a "take that hasbro, we have durability, brightness, and colored blades" thought to me. When I make an MHS saber I might have to get my hands on some of that :D

Here is the place I got it from and it comes in all kinds of colors. The website is: Mcmaster.com and the part number is 51135K521. It cost me $10 for 3 foot.

will this work well as a diffuser by itself (no wraps of film)? If so, the clear tubing (part # 51135K47) could replace the current diffuser since its a tube, making a so much easier install.

Bummer that clear and blue are the only semi-clear colors. I was hoping for a spectrum

Thanks for that, I've been considering something like this.

It works by itself, no film or anything else. They have different types of material in other colors, but I havent tried them yet.

I found a few that might work,

clear red PVC, biggest is 3/4 inch O.D. # 9117T414

clear green PVC, 3/4 inch O.D. # 9117T412

clear orange PVC, 3/4 inch O.D. # 9117T411

semi-clear yellow Tygon PVC- 7/8 inch O.D. # 5552K31 (EXPENSIVE $6.15/foot)

semi-clear amber Latex tubing- 7/8 inch O.D. # 5234K18

I'm not sure how well clear PVC does with the light/Diffusion, but they look like possible solutions.

I am going to order several types and try them. I also sent off for some samples from this company: http://www.ark-plas.com/products/product.asp?classID=6

Just took a look at that item #. It seems the tubing only comes in 4 colors, and 2 of them are opaque (black & red). The semi-transparent ones are blue & white.

yeah, they do (previous posts). Those are the only colors in silicone rubber. We've found some clear and semi-clear tubes in pvc and latex, wadeh is planning to see how well they fit the job.

Also, look for some that are uv florescent. I've seen some made for water cooled computer systems where someone wants to add some bling to their tower with UV leds. Ive got a few of the UV stars laying around and i think a semi-opaque florescent tube as a diffuser may just work.

Hmm, that could look very interesting.
