no offense, but are you just trying to get up to 500 posts? if you are going to start a project that you would like others to know about, you should give more info than "it's going to be pretty cool"

i am a nerd, if you don't like it, i will cut you with my lightsaber

Question. Do you have anything done in the way of actual material and supplies, or are you still trying to plan?

well i was thinking of what parts to use, here is a pic of what i was thinking of using. Im going to use 2 sink tubes, and i will be using two different sabers, instead of using a momentary switch http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/7858/saber15ao.jpg

To get this topic off to some kind of real start, I found several tub/shower safety grab bars on clearance at lowes, the kind you put in the tub to help get in and out. Pickup up a 24", 36" and and 48" one. I plan on cutting the straight part of the bar out to make some maul-ish double bladed LED sabers. This will be my project after I finish my two Luxeon MR Anakin conversions (one RoTS and one AoTC).

I'm a little lost as to what I can use for emitters for these, I would like something flared, I've seen some showerheads used on sabers, but I haven't found anything that looks decent...

i had made a darth maul type saber once from sink pipes. i used a faucet knob i found that was perfect, and used the neoprene and fender washers to make the ends with. and the same for the ribbing in the tubes. it was all held together with a threaded allthread down the center. i had a connector nut that you screwed the other end into to connect the two halves together. sucker weighed alot tho, with all those fender washers. the style i made was the combat one, there were some pics of it with him holding the stunt combat one in his hand. only diference in the show one and it was there werent any knobs on the stunt version. unfortunately that saber has come up missing, and i cant find it. and i just bought a camera off ebay today. its a panasonic digital that uses the 3.5 diskettes and also comes with a super disk too. so now i can take better shots of the sabers i made, and also the darth vader costume and mods i made to it. so, when it arrives i'll be taken pics and postin them.

Well, looking at the picture posted, the first piece that jumps out at me is the emitter(s). You could easily use an "economy shower head" for the emitter. It has a nice taper that would look good. For the "ribs" on the emitter, I would suggest using styrene square rod. The "washers" would be tricky. Personally, I wouldn't use regular washers, because you'd need a bunch of them and the weight would be so much that your saber's balance would be teh suck. I'd try and use large aluminum washers (if you could find them), or even make them out of sheet styrene too.

After seeing Corbin's double bladed saber on another forum I believe the modular pieces could do this well. It'd be quite a few extensions but it'd work.

Do the emitter as planned with the new emitters on the way. use the washers to get the look. The rest could be done with sink tube overlays and small painted lines (o-ring like normal too). Some of the tube strips would be very thin and I guess you'd have to find a way to secure them but the look would be right.

The "economy shower head" is made of plastic, so you coule easily sand off the chrome plating and use super glue to secure the styrene ribs. If you got everything sanded very smooth when done, you could paint the emitters with a quality "chrome" spray paint and get good results.

Styrene is ABS plastic so anything made for bonding plastics will do the job if you go that route.

For mine epoxy would work. If you sand that stuff sticks.

I was kinda hoping to be the first one to post a saberstaff (double saber) using the MHS on this site but I think Master Corbin has beatin me to it so here goes. I received my parts from Tim on Monday evening, starting paint and design now. I want it to have the flavor of a Maul but not a copy, and I am only using MHS parts since I wanted to show it off that way. Depending on when the arrival of the new emitters are I may change that part, other then that it is just begging for me to complete assembly and fire up those twin red blades so that I have a little more of an advantage battling my hoard of Jedi Younglings[8D]
I will post pics when the wife comes home with the digicam.

James it seems that no matter what you think up someone will beat you to the display first. I have a double sith saber in mind using the mhs parts but I am waiting on the new emiiters looks like I wil be even further behind oh well life goes on.

Yup, a lot of stuff has been done. That's why you have to do it one better.[:D] Corbin already did a clear hilt but that is my next goal without a doubt. I'm going to make it have a crystal, battery pack, RGB LED, etc... all the goodies (including sound which corbin didn't do.[8D] I even thought up a neat mounting method for the electronics and how to route the wires.[:)]

Nope, it's ABS plastic. It's strong stuff. Scaarmor uses it to make his armor out of.

Oh I know that it's just a case of re-inventing the wheel but my attempt was more to be the first one to post pics of one then anything. Just one of those goofy things that I got in my head and I have no doubt that someone is going to do one a heck of alot better then mine but I am excited about it. (Darn it woman, where are you?) I have been wound up about this one for a while since it will be the trial version of the saberstaff that I really want to make.
