Just wanted to give a heads up... I found these at Wal Mart today for $7.

Looked like Qui Gon saber with reversed color way and just called Sith Saber. Had basic (no LED 2 C battery) hasbro sound though with Clash and swing sensor. So I picked one up. Pretty Good for $7 I thought.

I have built several sabers with those cards. They work as good as the other hasbro card do.

Does it have the connections for powering an LED, or is it strictly a sound card?

Be careful with the voltage you supply to these boards...if they are the same one used in the original sabers from 1999, they can only hadle about 4.5 volts.

These are the older boards that do not light an LEd but a regular light. I am not sure I would drive the LED off of it, probably just use it for sound.

Don't get me wrong, you can run a Lux III off the boards, just don't try to give it more than 4.5 volts.

Do you think they would handle 4.8 volts ok?

Overdriving electronics is always a risk. You could take three boards and one may run for nigh ever, the second could burn out in a year, and the third could flash on and burn out in the same instant. Be prepared to kill a component if you want to risk it.

$.8 volts might be okay, but the inital charge of a 4.8 volt battery pack could be as high as 5.2 volts...that may be too much...only way to know for sure is to try it out. As Ghostbat said, though, be prepared to possibly watch your $7 go up in smoke.

fair enough. Thanks

... or as was suggested to me, try using a 1amp 5v regulator.

just got one, cant beat $7... will work great for a pvc padawan saber :) for anyone unfamiliar w these, they have hum, swing, and flash on clash. crappy hasbro sounds, but at least this way the kid gets an activation sound and hum. also good to practice on for first-timers installing sound (me).

Hmmm, stopped by my local walmart this morning found sabers for 8 bucks but no sound or need for battery. Then I also saw $22 Version with the spring action blade and sound... I'm guessing the one you're showing us is somewhere in between. Any Idea what the actual Hasbro or Walmart part number is?

LordCyric

PS - Is this the one you got? (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10792173)

I use them with a 4AAA battery pack (6 volts) and I haven't had a problem yet. I have built 12 sabers with those cards in them and have not had any problems. I use them with the CREE LEDs and they work fine with 6 volts. These must not be the same as the older Hasbro cards.

Rhyen Skytracker,
Is the one I linked to above your post the correct one?

You could use a Schottky Diode and then run the thing off of 4.8 volts.

LordCyric, that is the same one. I have used both the Sith and Jedi Versions. I can't find them in my local WalMart. I have to get them at Walmart Online, I have to pay $10 plus shipping there. Another use out of the saber is using part of the blade to make a enclosure for the sound card.

Thanks for the hint on the Sound shroud... well as you can see the sith is on clearance at 5.92... you should pick up a few!

Thanks for the tip, I just ordered 10 of them. I have shorted one out before and it blew the fuse, all I had to do was solder a wire across the fuse and haven't had a problem since.

LOL, My wife only let me order 3 for starters... I hope they're still around when I get a little further into this hobby

I just hope they don't quit making them. Around Christmas I was getting the Hasbro Force Action (the ones where the blade springs out) for $15 and now they are $22.

LordCyric

is the sound board any better on those or pretty much the same?

Rhyen Skytracker

It is basically the same board sound wise. It is a little easier to wire the other ones though.

I just got my hands on one of these from my local Wally for $5. I'll probably tear it open one of these evenings to take a look at the board.

When you do open it up, this thread might be helpful since I just did so myself:

I haven't followed up yet but I'll post pics when it is done.

If you want to build a saber with a small tube say 1.10 in diameter, the clone wars ultimate lightsaber is good seeing as it is 1 inch by 1 inch. I'm using this board on a saber for a friend because he has small hands, and i can put sound in a small tube. plus that hasbro board is cheap.

Those boards are great for the price. They are small too. they are only 0.975" x 1.577"

So does it have swing and clash sounds? I've been looking all over the interwebs to find this guy and there are a bunch of very similar models out there at various price points. However, I haven't seen anything with that price and swing and clash sound effects. I did find a Darth Vader revenge of the Sith at ~$20 that :

Features real electronic movie sound effects, including awesome battle-clash and “humming” sounds! Motion-activated sounds place you right in the middle of the battle between the heroic Jedi and the Dark Side of the Force!

* Requires 2 “C” batteries (not included).

Which based on what I can find is about the sweet spot in terms of getting a board that has swing and clash sounds and isn't into FX price territory.

Jay-gon Jinn

If that board is the same one used in the original Qui-gon Hasbro toy, no, it doesn't have motion activated swing sound effects...it makes a swing effect on every other clash sound. It also flashes the light bulb every time it turns on or off.

This board has all the sounds, power up, swing, hum, clash, and power down. You have to split the hot wire to the LED/battery/card.

Ok so if I read everybody right, the board from the $7 toy saber in the first post of this thread will do the power up, power down, swing, clash and hum sounds? Which is great except apparently everybody else on the thread was faster than me and bought them all up!

I can't believe they are all gone and I only got 10 of them. I knew I should have gotten 100 of them. lol

You know it was all of US that bought them all. I just hope they restock them. I wonder how many sabers people here bought?

Mine x2 came today. Except the package was addressed to the wife and she opened it in front of the kids. Doh!!
Now I need a plan to disappear these things to my secret lair for their scheduled surgery. I probably should wait until they get bored of them and then make them disappear.

Well, Crap, none of the Wal-Marts in Ft. Worth seem to have that model. They have the stinkin' Clone Wars versions for $21.00 but nothing in the seven dollar range with sound...

And on-line. No joy there either.

If you do end up getting the Clone Wars version, make sure you get either the Anikin with out the color change, the Obi-Wan with out the force feel or a Darth Vader. All of the other ones will not have all of the sounds.
