oil based Gloss Black Rust-oleum protective enamel.

Ya know you could paint the whole thing then when your done take some wet sand paper and sand the excess off, would be alot easier than painstakenly little by little with a brush.

hey quick random question do the parts already come prepowder coated? i was lokking at the grip this morning and it looked like it was pre powdercoated.

Hmm. What part were you looking at? I'm not sure what you mean by "grip".

Parts do not come pre-powder coated. You chose the color and pay an extra charge for that. And you pay by the part.

And if you wanted to use some kind of shroud or overlay, like out of sink tube, since powdercoating adds to the thickness of the part, you'd also need to have Tim turn down the OD a little before he did the PC, which is also another extra charge.

i realize the powder coating bussines. and buy the grip i mean the V-Ribbed.

Looking at the photo in the Store, I can't figure out why you would think it's powder coated.

I dunno, it does look slightly bronzy/goldy to me in the store pic, I guess just the light.

was that what you meant, Darth Vane?

Ah, that's probably what he means. It does look like sort of slightly orangy light shining on it.

Well if you look at half the Blade Holders, they do look Gold somewhat... Especially BH-3, with the milled out rings..

But no, PC work costs extra.. I know. Ive gotten 2 sabers pretty much completely powdercoated... :P

sorry to say this but you guys are way off. when you look at the grip up close it has the look of air bubbles still in it. so me and my father are thinking it might be clear-coated.

I just looked at both of the Ribbed Sections... No bubbles there, and Im looking on a 27 Inch HDTV all zoomed in.. the only thing close is some slight yellow light reflection on both pieces, which is circular and could be mistaken for a bubble effect.

But if you look at many of the pieces, there is a golden tinge on the majority of them due to the lighting used when they all were photographed.. when i first joined i though that the pieces had brass coating on them.

I've had one of the grips recently, and I can tell you that they are 100% NOT powdercoated, unless you pay Tim to do it. There is however, a difference in the surface texture compared to the regular ribbed extension. The V-grooved looks and feels almost as if it has been lightly sand blasted, and may have been as part of a de-burring process after having been machined.

EDIT:
Here's a few pictures of the last saber i built last month that included the v-grooved ribbed extension:

ok so update i have not orderd the lux three kit yet so my saber is but on hold for know... but i am trying to remember who could supply me with a MR board. i am just going to scrounge up the cash for a whole new MR board and lux III red kit, than just gutting my Luke ANH and just making it a usless hilt. i will convert the luke when i have the time and money so i have two sabers to use than just one.

it would be cool for us if we could just get MR soundboards. I splurged and got a couple Ultrasounds. I just find the idea of gutting an MR a bit much. I am gonna wait a while and see if more sound options become available.

I've never used thin walled blades. Haven't had problems with thick walled blade tips.
