Here is my replica Graflex made to look like an Anakin ROTS lightsaber. It has a Royal Blue 3watt Luxeon. No sound yet but will have soon. Uses Tim’s graflex blade holder. The red button is also functional.
The grips, end cap and circuit board where purchased for a guy in Australia through Ebay.
No blade yet, need to save up!

These are not graflex "handles". Those are made by peruvian hands (mines) to look like a graflex...see for yourselves.

Here is my saber. I like the Graflex, but wanted to put my own twist on it. I'm still working on the blade, which will be a green LED.

Been moving along slow with this one. It's a real Graflex 3-cell. Anakin style grips, ESB bottom red button(thumb screw), clamp card and Kobold D ring assembly. I haven't wired it up yet but I have gutted the original internals and installed a short blade socket/heatsink combo. The rest isn't far behind now that I can competantly get the stock red button to work a small, tactile momentary switch mounted below it. Would love to install a sweet crystal housing as well... hopefully, Master Yoda will start selling those things without having to turn over your hilt to him to get the job done.

Updated the Graflex... removed the rubber T grips and replaced with brass strips. Used the same template for the ANH 7 grip application to space them perfectly. Adds weight but not chunky in the hand anymore.

This is a Parks el Graflex that I converted to led and installed a CF 4.0 board
in with a crystal chamber. The led is a Luxeon K2 and the 3/4 inch blade holder
was retained. I installed a aux button towards the front of the hilt behind the
gold pins. I also fit a crystal chamber into the saber with a lighted quartz
crystal. The blade is a 36 inch long 3/4 inch thin wall Do-clo blade.

Finally some electronics installed. Green K2 powered by the version 1 driver board. Thought the green would go good with the brass handle strips. Also installed a vibrating motor wired to the LED output. Graflex flash tubes aren't the easiest things to work with but they do look cool.

A group of us over at JSSDC had a contest recently. The contest was to design and build a saber which incorporated elements of the Graflex flash and showcased our talents. Every one of the contestants in this challenge pushed themselves to the limit and created their finest work. These sabers you will see from our contestants are some of the most innovative sabers I have ever seen. We over at JSSDC are trying to push the hobby of replica/custom lightsabers to new levels. Through challenges like the one we just had and will have in the future, we will do exactly that. Each of our members will post their own thread here on my section of FX-Sabers, and here is my entry:
Hear ye, hear ye! Jon has come with the thunder. After countless hours of toiling, gallons of coffee drank, hundreds of hours of industrial music listened to, sketches drawn/revised/tossed/redrawn, a dead soundboard replaced at the 11th hour (Thanks Gravy), a gashed thumb, and a wonderfully understanding wife...
I HAVE BROUGHT FORTH MY CONTEST ENTRY
Lacking creativity for witty nomenclature, I have no name for this saber. This saber is comprised of the following components:
1.5" OD 20 gauge sinktube (nickel plating sanded off, then polished back to 600 grit)
1.25" OD 20 gauge sinktube (nickel plating sanded off then polished back to 600 grit)
(2) 1.5" to 1.25" adapters (big shoutout to Randy at Arm on Fire Designs)
(19) strips of brass comprising the grip of the saber
MHS BH1 (modified)
(2) 1.5" sinktube to MHS adapters
Custom crystal chamber/battery pack/electronics cradle comprised of brass tubing and copper accents
Ultrasound 2.0 board
R/O Luxeon III (bin 2)
A fair modicum of blood, sweat and tears
On to the pics. It would be best if you were sitting down for this:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC01499.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC01499.jpg)
My entry has been in process for many months, but I originally lost interest in the project until Eastern suggested a contest to showcase our talents. Here's the basic saber and the brass used for the grips.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC01504-1.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC01504-1.jpg)
The strips cut to length (by Dremel) and trued so they are all the same length (by hand). Aside from the turning down of the MHS parts and the machining of the 1.5 to 1.25 adapters, nothing else on this saber was done with precision machinery. Just me and my anal-retentiveness and a Dremel or files. Good stuff, huh?
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC01527-1.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC01527-1.jpg)
The three main components of the saber. Goes together nice and tight and makes it easy to service, should the need arise.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03433.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03433.jpg)
When you lay out all the components, a saber doesn't look like much, does it? Let's take a look at the centerpiece of the build - the crystal chamber.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03424.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03424.jpg)
This is the assembled but bare chamber. I integrated the battery pack, crystal and soundboard chassis into on coherent unit. It's comprised of brass tubing and Nylon washers. Again, no precision machinery used here - just careful measuring and drilling.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03429.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03429.jpg)
While I wanted to be able to show off "bling" with the crystal and such, I also wanted to make the guts as "clean" as I could, and to me, that meant hiding as much wiring as possible. I hate exposed wires. The back of my AV setup in my living room causes me great distress. Wiring here is run through the tubing to areas it needs to go to. Makes for a nice install, which we'll see in a minute.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03430.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03430.jpg)
The cradle the soundboard sits on is made of clear styrene plastic, and is hollow in the middle, to allow the wiring of the 5mm LED for the crystal chamber to pass through unseen. The cradle is a structural component of the whole unit, and keeps things true and straight.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03464.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03464.jpg)
The wiring for the speaker, switch, battery pack, 5mm LED were routed as needed and cut as short as feasible to reach the pads on the Ultrasound 2.0 board. I think this is a clean install.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03465.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03465.jpg)
Designing the chamber/chassis the way I did, it allows the saber to be broken down in such a way that if you need to diagnose a problem, the board is easy to get to. Just another detail I thought was important.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03466.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03466.jpg)
Putting the body of the saber back together, the chassis can be pulled towards the rear and expose the battery holder and crystal chamber. I didn't want to see the crystal glowing all the time, but I though it was a neat way to display it. Kind of an example of "things are not always what they seem on the surface".
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03475.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03475.jpg)
Low-light photo of the saber activated. The crystal is tied to the main LED and flickers. It's a neat effect. I am disappointed in the small LED though. It's a Radio Shack LED, so the dispersion angle is narrow, making it seem dim if you view it too far off-axis.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03474.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03474.jpg)
Shot of the saber with almost no light. Note the glowing of the blade from the "recharge port" holes where they would be on a Graflex? Aww yeah!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03472.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03472.jpg)
Another shot in the dark. Even with the main LED on, you can still see the glow from the crystal chamber.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/th_DSC03457.jpg (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/sixmilliondollarman/?action=view¤t=DSC03457.jpg)

Ok so here is my entry, I don't have a name for it though.
It has some firsts for me. The crystal chamber (first time), CF V4 (first time), Gold leafing (first time), RGW used to give a purple blade with White clash flash and mid hilt mounted speaker.
It's not exactly like my original design but really close. The important stuff stayed and reality made some minor changes to the exterior.
So I give you ....... I got nothing.

Hope you guys and gals like it, we had a lot of fun pushing the limits of what we could do. Thanks to Jon (Judgesabersmith) for hosting this awesome challenge and for bringing together the greatest bunch of crazy sabersmiths in the hobby. It really has turned into a think-tank for stretching and advancing this great thing we do. Thanks to Eastern57 for proposing this challenge and for dragging the best out of us kicking and screaming. Enjoy this and all of the other entries as we ALL put everything we had into them.
Nothing as cool as the preceding sabers in this thread but here's mine. I machined the parts myself. As you can see, I wasn't trying to replicate the graflex look exactly. NOTE: Not part of the JSSDC contest.

Here is my entry for the JSS competition
Legend
Basically, it's a What If saber. What if Obi-Wan had told Luke the truth about what happened to his father in the beginning. What if his motivation for becoming a Jedi was not revenge or "nothing left for me now" but to redeem his Family name, to redeem his father. To start down that road, he took his father's saber, that had killed Jedi, and redeemed it as well. This is the Legend of the Skywalker Saber. So it's over all a blend of ROTS, ANH, and ESB
This saber is a lot of personal firsts. I've never done a crystal chamber or integrated chassis like this before. Not to mention, by simply removing the retention screws, and popping the switch off, the entire thing slides out in one piece.
While, it may look like a simple conversion, it is not.
It started as an MR FX Anakin ROTS. I removed the stock grips and replaced them with TCSS Luke ESB style grips. I then drilled and tapped the screw hole. Then I ground down the screws so that they sit flush and polished along the inside of the saber. No nuts holding them in place.
Next, I took the TCSS Ani converson blade holder, and put two 6-32 rods in it. Then used my laser to cut a set of acrylic discs to act as a chassis.
It's using a 5 mm green LED for the crystal chamer. The crystal is genuine quartz that I cut and polished myself. The entire chassis is bolted to the heatsink, with a small rubber grommet to help prevent heat from melting the acrylic. The sound board is a Luke ANH, which I removed the clip, and used a new ribbon to run the leads to the leds and clash sensor. Main LED is a seoul p4 white, with one of my viridian filters. The blade plug is a piece of aluminum bar stock, with a nylon washer to hold it in place, and a rubber tip to keep it from scratching the optics. It's held in place by the main retention screw. Power is provided by two trust fires, sound with the premium TCSS speaker.
Thanks for looking.

Arm on Fire

So this is my official entry in the Judge Sabersmith Graflex Challenge
I wanted to make it a dark side inspired graflex . So I reversed the color scheme and changed a few of the features around.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/005.jpg
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/006.jpg
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/007.jpg
The base of the saber is a 8” MHS style hilt section with a custom machined overlay, powder coated flat black. I wanted the look of the t-track grips, but because they are so damn uncomfortable so I decided to machine out the overlay to give it the opposite look but still have grips.
It’s the coin edge pommel and speaker grill from TCSS, with a d-ring holder I made and a brass d-ring.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/011.jpg
I took a MHS #2 choke and drilled some holes and installed some brass rods to give it a little bling and add some color.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/001.jpg
The emitter is a MHS Blade holder #2 that I cut some grooves in.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/012.jpg
I cut the emitter shroud with the classic graflex S curve also powder coated flat black and attached it to the blade holder thru the bunny ears I also made. I also hid the blade screw in the bunny ears as well.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff204/armonfiredesigns/JSS%20Graflex%20Challange/008.jpg
I also made this custom blade plug for it , Jon and I actually came up with the design based off the ones that chaos over at TCSS made a while ago.

May I present to you,
"Starkiller"
Here's what went into it:
-aluminum tubing from Online Metals
-copper tubing from my personal supply
-copper leaf accents on grip
-TCSS 1.25" blade holder
-TCSS red button, glass eye, and brass pins
-premium speaker from TCSS, mounted mid-hilt, facing forwards
-custom pommel and switch guard
-red Lux III
-Crystal Focus 4.1
-quartz crystal, lit by 5mm red LED, two 5mm LED bezels
-two Trustfire batteries
Here are two pictures from early in the build, just to give and idea of the structure. The copper tubing goes all the way to the beginning of the s-curve.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff102/dar4jc/Starkiller%20saber/100_1349-1.jpg
In the second picture above, you can see the first version of my crystal chamber. I didn't like where the forward washer sat. Here's the re-worked version. I had to do some heavy modifying to the heat sink, in order to make it a part of the crystal chamber, but I love the way it turned out.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff102/dar4jc/Starkiller%20saber/100_1502-1.jpg
Here's the CF, nestled happily in its new home.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff102/dar4jc/Starkiller%20saber/100_1510.jpg
Here's the finished saber.

Close-up of the crystal chamber. The speaker is facing forward in the middle of a 2" resonance chamber between the battery pack and the LED that lights the crystal. Here you can see the sound holes I made to let the sound out, just behind the rear washer. It works pretty good like this. The sound comes out the pommel end too, and I get really good resonance.

A closer look at the emitter end. The blade retention screw is the black set screw in the bunny ears, behind the button head screw.

I wish the kits would come back. I want to do a Graflex build so bad. Either stunt build or just get the hilt for a great display piece. Either way. I'd do mine in blue, 36 inc corbin battle blade.

looking good!
(you may want to look into the positioning of the clamp though... only ANH filming prop had the clamp the the left of the bunny ears, promo for ANH and all of ESB had clamp to right)

I am set to receive parts for my first saber tomorrow. (Among other things) I went with the blade holder style 20, which is as close to graflex as I have seen. I have been wondering the whole time how I am going to do this so I guess I will finally ask.
How can I do the small piece inside the blade holder/shroud. If you look at the pictures for blade holder style 20 there isn't anything inside the curved part. Regardless of how I accomplish this, I am going with a 7/8" diameter blade, but for the life of me I can't find any hardware stores that sell any type of tubing that is 1" outer diameter and 7/8" inner diameter. Any suggestions?

Why are you using a 7/8" blade??

I just think they look better. Personal preference I guess. But it doesn't really matter. Were I using a 1" blade I would have the same problem, more so in fact. I am not using the 7/8" blade because I feel like I have to for this additional blade holder piece, I just like it more. In either case, any help? I don't want to take up too much space in this thread since I am technically not sharing any pictures of a graflex saber (yet) and I would like to get some help before the posts get taken down, if they do.
Thanks again

Yep, fully aware on that one :D this was my "temp" clamp until I got my TCSS clamp in, that was yesterday. Any how, I am a Right hand dominant, every since I was 10 the clamp on the other side seemed odd to me. On my vint(s) I have the clamp on the proper side for display, when its a rep I expect to duel with it so I go for the comfy grip ;)
One last thing, if you pay attention in ESB (first scene with Yoda) you will notice the clamp position change from left to right ;)

Dang, I missed that one... I watched ANH and ESB over and over again for at least a week watching the sabers carefully, missed that... I was Surprised by the placement of the clamp just after Luke activates the saber in ANH... threw me off...

It's my first kick at the can.
Graflex 2.0 scratch-dent kit from TCS
Order 66 chassis
My own (very humble) crystal chamber. Made from hard drive parts, leftover bike air valves and some compression fittings. I haven't placed/wired any accent LEDs yet.
Tri-Cree B-B-W
Nano Biscotte V4
Thick-walled 7/8 blade. (It photographs well, but seems too dim to me in person. I might get a thin-walled blade for display)
I've got the drive settings in the override file for the V4, so I'm not using resistors. In addition, I've got all three LEDs on in the main config because I love the white-blue look as it matches the original blade colour quite nicely, IMHO.
The only thing left to figure out is why my recharge port isn't playing nice. For whatever reason, I can't get power to the board unless I bypass the kill switch port and connect the board, battery - and the switch to the - terminal on the recharge port. This means that power isn't cut using a kill key or when charging. Weird.

Nice. Looks nice and bright to me. Probably due to low batteries in person though unless its been figured out since this post. I like that shade of blue though

I think my expectations are too high, since I'd only seen blades lit in photos and videos. The light coming from the LEDs is crazy-bright, just the blade I'm using (thick-walled 7/8 inch from a local saber duelist) is a bit dim for my liking, particularly about 2/3 up.

And the final touches, the outer shell for the chassis, in gold weathered paint.

My beta test of Proffie built in July 2018. This was the first Korbanth Graflex that I know of to see a Proffie. I actually gutted my first Graflex build of the biscuit, and then did a massive re-work of the Knight chassis to fit in as much stuff as I could to "beta" test the proffie. This saber is neopixel, and features: neopixel turbine ring, neopixel illumination of the crystal chamber, OLED Display, and blue tooth. Switches are both in the clamp, as well as a kill switch which is underneath the clamp lever. It was a fun build, but there are a lot of wires in this thing.

All that is still kinda new talk to me so x.x I never got the chance to get me an original Graflex lightsaber so, I don't make lots of money for this kind of stuff. Been wanting the original for years and years though thanks to my grandma =] She died last October so in a way she's with the space mom
