MR anakin I converted with a lux III royal blue for sekrogue1985 at TCSS.

I have included a tutorial to help some of you more "intermediate" folks! :011:

Video:

finished saber:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0022.jpg

Mini tutorial:

After the saber is disassembled, remember that when using a TCSS kit that the internal structure of the electronics module must be modified or the soundboard cradle will be loose. I cut a PVC spacer (with notches to fit nocely with the soundboard cradle) to maintain the length of the entire assembly once the TCSS blade holder replaces the stock plastic POS.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0006.jpg

Please, please learn to solder well (don't glop it on!) and always use heatshrink! This is the MR wiring harness connected to the LED.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0007.jpg

Here are my 3 pieces for the entire internal assembly (all soldering and heatshrinking is finished.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0008.jpg

Always test to make sure it works BEFORE you put it back together!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0010.jpg

Here are the 3 pieces connected. I used the existing masking tape to connect the PVC spacer to the soundboard cradle (analagous to how it is connected in the original saber)then I used High temp hot glue to connect the spacer to the TCSS kit and voila a solid module that can slide directly into the hilt.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0011.jpg

A note here, make sure to align the switch hole on the soundboard cradle with where it will meet the hole in your hilt BEFORE you hot glue the final pieces together!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0012.jpg

To re-use the stock "buttons" you will need to modify them by cutting "semilunar" grooves directly into the plastic. Both of them should look like this:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0014.jpg

You will also need to use 10-32 screws to attach them (you can cut longer screws down and you will need to widen the holes in the button assemblies themselves)

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Sekrogue1985%20anakin%20conversion/100_0015.jpg

Hotglue the "gold" caps over the new screws and you be fin!

Nice work. I wish I could get my hands on one of those blade holders. I'm getting ready to convert an Anakin myself, but Tim doesn't have an ETA for more blade holders.

*forgive me Tim if this is inappropriate*

http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=5838&highlight=grab+bags&page=17

there are some "scratch and dent or imperfect ones" for trade in that thread. I dont have an anakin saber to see if they dont line up right or why Tim considered them grab bag material.

I didn't, but sekrogue1985 may choose to. It looks cool either way!

Does anyone know when these kits will be back in stock? I haven't seen any ETA posted. I need one before christmas, or a way to just use the stock plastic blade holder.

Guess this will take some more research. :-?

I've already dissassembled the whole thing, but don't know where to go from there without a kit.

69 minutes to be exact (I may have done 1 or 10 of them!) Now for the value-added content in this thread. I had a few folks ask me HOW to do this conversion WITHOUT a kit. I did a little video tut...

Here is the LINKY (http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Tutorials/?action=view&current=100_3999.flv)

Something i forgot to mention in the video, (although I said it in the original tut), make sure to line up your switch hole before you tape the two pieces back together.

Anyone who thinks I made this whole conversion idea up on the fly just say so...maybe I did and maybe I did...Muuuahahahahhahaha!

Mandalorian

I think you made it up on the fly cause I almost thought of the same thing. I was trying some fittings that didn't work, but your tutorial cleared up the reasons why. Thanks, I can't wait to give it a shot.

Lord Dottore Matto

I modded another technique on the fly (technically!) But it WILL work (and well)

Uh, I have a problem. I have the correct pieces to mount, but when I try to place the sound module under the heat sink, the heat sink hits the MR sound board, preventing it from sliding into position. I'll take pics and edit them into this post in a couple minutes here.

EDIT: Okay, here's the problem.

oops, I thought of this potential problem last night (aftersight is 20/20). I'll do a vid to show you how to fix it (it is still easy, just need to add 1 small step)

Okay I totally cheesed the previous video (post #21 in this thread). Use it and this (http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/drdicarlo/Tutorials/?action=view&current=100_4000.flv) one for the total guide on how to do this conversion without a kit.

Sweet bro, post it when you are done!

Mandalorian

Ok, so I'm having troubles fitting all the wiring in, but I think I can get it to work. The main problem is the board. For some reason, it keeps shorting, and when I turn it off, the saber doesn't deactivate, and sometimes the LED doesn't turn on. This kind of stuff was happening before the conversion, so I'm sure it's a problem with the board. Any idea as to how to fix it?

Lord Dottore Matto

PM me a pix of all of the wiring and I'll take a look.

That's okay, you can just glue it back together. Just take it apart slowly!

Mandalorian

Yeah, those little glued parts are really annoying. Hopefully I will have some pics up tomorrow morning.
