Anybody have or know where to find a link to printable shroud patterns? I found some on Big Yellow Box, but nothing that I really want to try. I would like to have something to go by on the first couple I do so I can get a feel for what works and what don't before I try to make one all on my own. If anybody has any patterns that they have made and would like to post them, that would be great.

you mean like the Graflex style?

Just get some graph paper and make your own, it's not that hard.

That way, you can try out different designs and pick what you like best.

Graph paper works really well... the squares make it easy to create a symetrical (spelling?) shroud.

If you fold the paper in half, then you can get really symmetrical designs.

And you only have to draw half of it. ;)

Try making a mock-up of what you intend to cut out from the aluminum tubing on a piece of posterboard first to see how it will look on the hilt before you commit to a certain design.

Here's a good template for the Graflex shroud.

I concure, i asked this same question a while back ago (but for more than just the shroud) and have found that graph paper simplifies the design process. Plus you get a more sense of pride when your own concept becomes reality :-D

I actually use graph paper for the entire design. It's so much easier to do straight lines and you can do it all to scale.

Indeed it is. I cut a piece to size and taped it over my MHS hilt. Then I could pencil in where everything would go much easier. When I get it back from powder coating and routing, then I'll have the template to apply back over it to continue with the other steps.

How far off size wise are the cardboard tubes found in paper towel rolls?

They're considerably larger, so basically think of it as a large scale mockup of your design. Then you can transfer the ideas to graph paper later.

cool, that was going to be my shroud creation plan.

You'll be glad you have exact measurements, trust me. Use something as a template that will be exactly near to what you'll be using as a shroud. That's why I make them out of posterboard or similar material. Then you can wrap it around the MHS pieces and just use tape to bring it together. It's extremely useful for mapping out where other screw points will be located.

"exactly near"? lol

That's like saying, "very sort of" or "almost very". :p
