Hi, is the LED Graflex adapter a blade holder, or what is it?

Yo, i´m a newbee so please be patient.

Yep. It holds the blade and houses the LED...all in one beautiful aluminum package.

Only the 1 1/2 tube.

Curious... are you German or some other european nation? You keep spelling it zink instead of sink.

I was also curious about this, so you can actually use this for a sink tube as long as it's one of the size you mentioned?

Do-Clo
03-24-2006, 01:37 PM
The graflex is slighlty smaller than the normal 1.5" sink tube so the adapter would tend to be loose in the tube it may fit better in a heavy duty sink tube the 20 guage thickness. But be prepared to have to use something to fill the space between the tube and the holder. A better solution would be to order the mhs sink tube adapter and the mhs blade holder and then ask Tim to machine it down so the entire thing will slide inside the sink tube.

They are not designed to go in a sink tube. They are designed for a graflex or graflex replica. They are smaller and would fit very loose in a sink tube.

OK guys, maybe you can help me out here. I am looking on Ebay at the graflex 3 cells and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best way to go.

This seems like a good value but I want to build this up with TCSS stuff since that's avalible. I know it's EL and I am still tilting which way to go since I want that original ANH look. Does anyone know if the holder can be swaped out with Tim's. I also found:

This seems nice but maybe a little on the high side I know that there is another site that has something like this for less but I don't know whether or not they are the same. And of course, there are the ones that come with the goodies that make the flash a saber[?] Needless to say I am a little perplexed and I would just as soon buy everything here at the store. Any help would be appreciated, Tim if you have any suggestions are recommendations I would be thankful.

James both of these sabers you are looking at are not original graflex flash units but are reproductions. Nothing wrong with reproductions, in fact they can be a affordable way to get a graflex but both of these are over priced and are in the price range of an original graflex flash unit. I purchased a reproduction graflex that was in parts and I didn't pay but $25.00 for it. Wait and watch is the best way to proceed.

Thank you Do-Clo, I was afraid that maybe there was a better value floating around, that first one doesn't totally seem like a bad deal since it has the blade holder in it and you can build up an EL in a snap. Other than getting parts from Radio Shack and Lowe's/Home Depot and one EL blade used off of Ebay, Tim is the only one I have purchased from and I am trying to keep cost to a reasonable amount since I have been building a lot of sabers in a short time.

Is there a realistic price range for a replica vs. an original?

An original graflex will go for anywhere from $125-$175 or higher on the replica graflex it will go for what ever people are willing to pay but on average if you can find one without a blade holder then you might come in between $50-$75. One thing to consider is to build your own graflex replica. You can buy a 1.5" sink adapter for the mhs blade holder and then ask Tim to machine it so the entire holder will fit into a sink tube then it is just a matter of cutting your tube. The mhs holder is either led or el so this would get you started without breaking the bank.

well, my first real graflex cost me 247 bucks. i since bought to other real ones cheaper. one for 110 and the other for 90. they go way up around movie releases. as with the first one i got did. i also have a replica from hong kong, made by larbel. it run me 128 bucks. i did replace the cruddy plastic core a month ago with the core i got from TGS. its a el setup.

my reccomendation is, if you dont care that much for it being a real graflex, then a replica will work. but be patient and do the lookin. a good price will come around, and if your gonna use tims stuff to put in it, theres no sense in buying one with a el or whatever setup already in there, and wasting the money, and yank it out. i would say a good price right now for a plain real graflex, is around 90 to 130 dollars. a replica, a lil less possibly/ ballpark figures of course.

Thank you Lan, that's some of the same ones I looked at as well. I would love to make a Graflex with an original but I think that will be down the road. I have pretty much convinced myself to go with a replica since making one from the sink tube will be a project I tackle when I get a little more dremel experence under my belt.

I am going to get one of the $75 deals, but I put it on delay since I won a Vader for $16.50.[:D] I put in my order for the conversion, red LED and blade so now the graflex gets pushed back for a little while since I have three projects going now. I will keep posted on how it goes.

I don't have a clear direction yet on the replica, so it is just setting for now. I am thinking that I would like to use a cyan led but I am afraid that might ruin my sith image[:D]

aw i dunno. maybe a startin to go sith type thing saber? (chuckles)
use a set of those uv leds like the one saber you made. that would be sweet in a graflex.

I have another saber planned for the purple blade. I have even thought about a red graflex saber but It might look a little strange, but at least it would be more in true sith style.

Well guys, I broke down and bought one of the Graflex replicas on ebay for 75 bucks. I reckon I need to figure out what color I am going to do. Most likely I will go with the Cyan and do the ANH Luke thing.
The purple Graflex sounds really cool though....to many choices[:D]

That is the whole problem I have too many choices on what to do with the graflex that is why it is setting right now. When I get some other stuff done then I can focus on it. I like the idea of a cyan blade also but purple would definately be different.

I am driving myself nutty trying to figure out what I want to do. If I do the Luke ANH thing I reckon I'll want to get the blade holder done in black to stay as close to the movie prop as possible. I am also thinking of putting sound to it and the one with the fx guts stuffed in it looks neat. Then I could do purple and make it my primary dualing saber to go with my MHS that I'm using now. Or maybe RGB....AAGGGHHHHH!!!!
More hair comes out.

guess you could get the graflex holders tim has now and get it anodized black. that is what i got from TGS but it was only a 3/4 el setup. its basically the same thing only 1 inch for the led setup. that 3/4 one was anodized black.
or do like i done for now, used a regular led holder, tims older ones he sold, and modded it and drilled the lil pin holes and tapped them, and used a black magic marker to color in the spots needed that showed. works ok.

but the reason i wanna go ahead when i can and get tims graflex socket is, its more recessed area where the lil pins are. other than that, and having to cut groove slots in the side to run the switch wires. now the new socket, has that large flat slotted area just like the 3/4 one did for the switch. which would make that problem less of a issue to run the switch under the top red button like i did.
