Has anyone bought the new Hasbro FX sabers yet? I need to know if they are the same as the MR ones as far as conversion kits etc go.

They are rumored to be exact copies of the MR sabers. I haven't seen any threads posted by people who have actually taken them apart though

I see Amazon has them in stock..anyone seen them at Walmart yet?

Hasbro has them as well (.com).

As near as all my sources told me... it's simply all the back stock of MRs "repackaged". Gay as heck... but... I'm going to imagine that they are identical for conversion purposes. Still... I don't know for certain, although I'm sure a "review" video will pop up on y-tube soon enough.

I know someone on fx-sabers has one maybe they could be persuaded to disassemble it for dimensions.

I bought two of the Episode V Vaders and two of the Episode III Obi-Wans. I took apart one of the Vader sabers using the conversion tut here (http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=1). I found that they are the same as the MR sabers. There was only a slight cosmetic change on the outside of the hilt which allows you to skip a step. I hope that Hasbro is making them (using the same molds and electronics) and that they're not just MR backstock relabeled/reboxed. IMHO they are not something that should be discontinued.

I thought I read that Ultra said the existing conversion kits would work in the new ones. Don't know if he meant his DIY kits or the metal bladeholder types.

I'm holding out for the Obi- Ep1 they're bringing out. Tim, once you have a custom kit for that, more of my hard earned moolah will be headed your way.

I got one of the Obi Wan sabers & it appears to be the exact same saber as the MR version except for the change in battery size to 3 AAA's verses 3AA's & the revamped picture on the box. The sounds & blade illumination are the same as the MR. I haven't started any major disassembly but looks to be the same saber that costs less than the MR's. Buy them while they're cheap cause once they catch on, the prices will go up! Ebay has some real good prices right now. Although they are beginning to adopt "socialist" policies for auctions & payment options. Bleed the "commie empire" Ebay machine for deals when you can but don't use it to buy everything. That's what TCSS, FX sabers, & Graflex shop "rebel forces" are for! How's that for a commercial plug?

Not to beat a dead horse, but... I really wish Hasbro would have STEPPED *SOMETHING* up with these.

Total wishful thinking, but... considering all the possibilities of today's technology (vs. stuff from 1999, 2000, 2001)... it's bloody sad that not a SINGLE change to the electronics were made. That is to say... SIMPLE changes could have been made:

* clash could have briefly "over-driven" the LEDs to be a tad bit brighter during said clash

* pulse or flicker modes could have been added (requires a second button, but... oooooooo SOOOOO HARRRRD, lol)

* 2nd button could also have been used to do SOME kind of effect... ANY kind of effect

My only guess is (still wishful)... they are planning to do this some time in 2009. Or 2010? 2011. 2065. lol

My guess Nova is that Hasbro was being very efficient with what was leftover from the MR buyout. Im sure that you will see better things on the re-issues of the ROTJ and Mace when they come out. Plus there's the great rumor that the Ep 1 Obi and Ep 2 Dooku will be released, so thats a step up there.

Things that Hasbro could have done that MR didn't:

#1) Stop the gold from wearing off and tarnishing on the Mace Windu!!
#2) Three words... Dooku Dooku Dooku
#3) Saberclash w/ popping that sounds like dry ice touching metal
#4) Four words.... Sidious Sidious Sidious (counts on his fingers) ....oh, Sidious

my only fear about the dooku is that it'll have that dark side board sound oh save me from the single clash. monkey with cymbols...

Novastar

DON'T

get me started about that single clash thing. You guys know me on that one... GRRRRR

Seriously.

I did my 1st kids b-day with a saber of that sort (1-clash vader)... and THAT WAS THE END OF MY SANITY. I'm DEAD f'in serious... try listening to that for an entire hour and see how well-done YOUR brainburger becomes... lol

I thought they said a dooku was impossible or sumthing along those lines. and i sure hope they make them like master replica did "look wise"

Well I took apart one of the Hasbro Force FX Obi-Wan hilts. It is definately different than the Master Replicas version that is pictured in the conversion tut. All the electronics appears to be the same but are housed differently. This includes the way the shock sensor is housed in the blade.

They used some sort of glue on the emitter threads and the only way I could get it off was to clamp the hilt in a vise and use channel lock pliers on the emitter. Needless to say this messed up the emitter a bit. Fortunately for me I don't need the hilt, only the electronics inside.

The shock sensor now has it's own housing that slides into the blade. This housing is held in the blade with a pin that only goes halfway through. There is no hole on the other side and the pin is flush with the blade. You do the math on that one.

When I took apart the Hasbro Vader FX saber about a week ago, it was much easier to disassemble. However they did glue the threads on the sliver thumb screw furthest from the emitter end . As such, I messed it up a bit as well.

That is a really nice render Hasid.. thanks for posting it :) Hopefully if it does get done, it will be done as nicely as Yoda has layed it out :)

Unlikely, but hopefully.

And are you SURE that Yoda over at FX Sabers did the render.. :p

Sairon

by the looks of that render it seems he has left no room for resonance. the batteries fill it all up.

Novastar

The speaker could be placed nearer to the mid-point inside the hilt, and there would then be plenty of resonance room. Holes would have to be drilled into the hilt sides, but that would look COOL on that type of hilt, especially with the overlay parts.

And yes, I do believe that is something Yoda (Michael) made from FX-sabers. His work is top notch, precise, and innovative to boot.

My Girl friend got me an Obi-wan for Christmas literally minutes before they sold out. It shall remain as it is, except for maybe a led conversion eventually.
