View Full Version : Rattling in the hilt

I used the MHS to build my lightsaber hilt, then had the electronics installed by TCSS. There is a lot of space between the pommel and battery back, and I find that the battery pack rattles about whenever I swing the hilt around. Does anyone else have this problem, and if you do, what have you done to solve it?

There are many ways to rectify this. IMO, the easiest would be to simply cut a piece of foam and tape it (with electrical tape or a velcro strap) to the side of the battery pack. Then when it slides in, it will be snug and not rattle. I am sure that others will provide many suggestions, but this is what I use.;)

Since I like to use a longer screw for my Covertec knobs and put a nut on inside the hilt, I need the battery pack to be loose enough to slide past it. So what I do is just cut a piece of the foam pipe insulation, cut it down to fit into my pommel, making sure it's long enough to push against the battery pack and just screw it back on. The top of the battery pack will just push up against the switch or buck puck.
I haven't yet used any sound boards, so I'll do it differently when I decide to use one of those.

some people use bubble wrap. Just wrap a piece of it around your battery pack and shove it up the hilt!

Thank you guys very much for the tips! For now, I went with bubble wrap and it works like a charm! I'll be using the foam when I can get to the hardware store, but the bubble wrap works as a quick solution. I was invited by a friend to join LA Jedi's lightsaber choreography on Thursday, and it just wouldn't do to have a rattling lightsaber.

Heh, have fun learning to pretend fight. :p
If you want to really learn how to fight, come down to Orange County on Wed. night! ;)
Choreography looks cool, and can be fun, I've done it, but learning how to fight for real is fun, too.

With my saber currently I have a small piece of foam in the pommel. It's a leftover from when I originally got the saber. It ran off a 9v and the foam went in the pommel and kept that thing from rattiling around. I'm currently using it to keep the 4aaa pack from doing the same, and it works.

As soon as I fix my car up, I'll definitely check it out. I live in West Covina, so I'm right in the neighborhood. Luckily, I bought one of the battle blades for my lightsaber! :D

If you'd really like to come down and check out the Orange County Saber Alliance some Wed. night, send me a PM and I'll give you the particulars.

Bummer. :(
It is a lot of fun. Mostly we use Kendo shinai, because pretty much everyone can afford one, but those of us that have them will break out our lightsabers, too. :)
I didn't extend the invite to you, LDM, because I figured you're probably pretty busy with your saber building, and your family and stuff.

Which state are you in Loreen? Theres a lightsaber group here in MD but they do a lot of choreographed fighting as well. Hard to find groups that would do Shinai.
I'm about to get back into fencing again, had a workout sunday with someone to practice the basics. What I really want to do is Shinai/Kendo though.

Loreen does her saber stuff with the Orange County California people.

Yep.
As opposed to Orange County Florida. ;)
Otherwise, I wouldn't have invited someone who's going to go to LAJedi (that's Los Angeles, not Lousiana) to come down and check out my saber group.

LOL, I just re-read my post and it did sound like I was trolling for an invite.
I should have said," Man J-Loreen that sounds really cool!"
