So here I am its like almost 2 am Iam coming home from a friends house, and I travel about the range of 10 miles and my car dies on me.

I went thru one town that's on the road I look down and notice my dash lights dimmed down. Ok nothing new I adjust my lights with the switch like always but this time nothing happens, I look over and my check engine light comes on, and then Iam like WTF now!

So I get thru the town(pritty small town) and I notice a lose in power and my oil presure light comes on. Now if you know anything about cars then if that light comes on something is really wrong. I thought great I killed the motor some how.

But no for some odd reasion the car kept running, usually when that light comes on its cause the car shut itself off cause there was no power left in the battery to keep it running. Well for some odd occurance the car kept running so to keep from something worse off happening I shut the car off and coast to the shoulder.

I try to start it and I get one err like its tryign to start but nothings happening.

So I shut everything off and turn the 4ways on and get out, Kick the door hard, I see lights comming over the hill and Iam in the middel of the lain for my side and I nearly jump out in front of the guy to stop him otherwise he would of kept going.

So I use his phone to get a ride home and now here I am with a pos car that is about 20 or so miles from me and by the time I have it towed home its going to have a sticker on it saying move it or it gets towed for you.

So yeah I have no money to fix the thing, I cant get a job cause the reliablity of that car sucks worse than a hooker bot on the first of the month payday. So I cant get money to get a better car.

In general IAM ****ED!

Don't panic man. Everything is gonna be just fine. In the olden days we used to have this problem and not have computers. Now, you can look almost anything up on-line (including how to work on cars, how to get jobs, everything!). Two very important things to remember are cleaning and organization.

My old dodge did the exact same thing once. Come to find out the main ground on the altenator had rotted apart, so no charging the battery. check out the altenator and if it is seperate the voltage regulator.

Sorry to hear about the car dude. it's a really crappy feeling when your car goes bang and you don't know what it is. It's hard to find a decent mechanic who you can trust, so they don't fleece you. hope it all comes good for you.

Well the thing is I would fix it but its not my car, When I got it I pumped 400$ into it and its still a pos, I stopted putting money into it except at the pump.

Hasid, if it's not your car why did you pump $$ into it..just confused a bit there...

Hasid Lafre

Cause its my mothers car and inorder for me to drive it I had to pump over 400$ into the brakes to make it near road worthy.

cars are something that will always depreciate in value. They loose a lot of value the first year. So, most people buy a car that is one or two years old. With a old beater car, it is sometimes best to take it to a dealership that has a trade-in program and use the money towards a better car. Most people get Honda or Toyota for reliability. They have a very solid engine and will last a long time. I personally think that most people should bike because it is good exercise and the cost of maintaining a bike is less. However, the distance you have to travel to work is also important. Not to mention that bikes get stolen. So, you gotta weigh out all the options and choose the solution that works best for you.

I didn't see anyone mention this but have you checked the oil? Before you should of tried turning the cat over to start it, the oil should of been checked. I mean the engine light came on as well as oil pressure:rolleyes:. Have you been back to the car yet? You might of caused a deal of harm trying to get it going. But im just some dude on the other end of a computer. I wish I could be more help... I'll try to catch the updates.

Sounds like your alternator took a dump or you threw the belt, which would make the car run off the battery. As the battery gets weaker, it can cause all your symptoms (lack of power and the dimming of the dash lights) and when it gets really low it can cause all the warning lights to come on.

I’d start there and throw a new battery in too…winters coming.

First off, I'm very sorry to hear Hasid. My sympathies. My car recently needed a months worth of pay worths work done on it. And I'm trying to get a job as well. I understand your pain man.

As for your car,

It does definately sound like an electrical system problem. If your car did indeed throw the alternater belt, it would explain everything, especially the car going one KACHUG then nothing, the battery's most likely dead.

If it's simply the alternator belt, you're in luck. Those are about 20 bucks, labor is roughly the same I believe. If you're really lucky, you won't need to replace the battery, just need to let the car run for a bit and charge it up.

All hope may not be lost. Have it towed to a shop and have them look at it. If it's turned into a junker, give you mom the bad news, and sell it. You might get some decent money for it.

I hope it all works out for the best. In the meantime, go find Two ton paperweight by Psychosticks, you may enjoy it

Well the car is home and it did not throw a belt. If it did then I would of felt a good amount of power instead of a lost of power.

IF any of you have been driving fast when a belt went then you know what I mean.

I do think its odd that the oil pressure light game on but with these cars if the CE light comes on then the oil pressure light comes on then that means total loss of eletrical power but what I dont get is why was my car still running!

But instead of replacing a possable alternator in the cold as hell night on the side of the road me and my bro came to teh conclusion to jump it and drive it to see how far it goes.

Well we jumped it and it fired right up so my bro thinks it may be the battery or something else with the eletrical system is wrong. If it was the alternator then it wouldent of started up with the cables being on the car for less than 2 min.

The car drove home fine with a few hickups here and that that Iam atributng to the mass amount of crosswinds we had lastnight, IE the car needs shocks and struts realllly badddd.

Yeah and that was day one I got the car.

I had a hand me down car like that once.

It was an '92 Blue Chevy Cavolier (the lower grade version). Granted it got insane gas mileage, when my sister had driven it, she blew out all 4 speakers, the radio didn't work, the alternator went, the start went, just about everything else went on it after that, and when I honked the horn, that fell out onto my lap.

Needless to say when a Chevy goes, IT GOES!

Yeah, give me a Honda any day!

My buddy has a 90 crx DX auto that he uses for a DD. He has had it for almost 3 years, changed the oil and filter plugs and plug wires when he got it. it didn't run and he replaced the dizzy with one he had and boom running car.

So here we are almost 3 years later, Hasn't changed the oil/filter, just adds when it needs it, Knocks like a sum bish when turning right(left cv shaft is almost gone) and that started happening about 6 months after he got the car!
Trans leaks and slips first gear like a bish.

Now here's the kicker, it gets upwards of 35+ MPG and runs like absolute ****! most people would look at it and go "that thing still runs?"

Hes replaced the alternator once and with a junk yard one at that. Honda's have tiny batteries and he runs a stereo, He wouldent of had to replace that alternator if he had wired the .5 farad cap!

God I want a 89-91 civic SI.

You have my complete sympathy Hasid.

I have owned a long succession of crappy old cars and it's a constant battle against the things. Living in a big city helps a lot, I can walk to light rail and there is a car-share program I have bought into so I have a car for running errands and going grocery shopping and don't have to worry about maintenance etc. It's one of the upsides that offsets high rent, crime, and bad air :)

If you have the option of offloading this car and getting something cheaper then that would be my council. A small used motorcycle will use less gas and be much easier to work on, and though it sucks to ride in the rain I did it for five years so it's doable :)

Good luck and remember that it always gets better!

everyone has a dream car. If I had a choice I would choose this:

When I was your much younger, I wish I would have been involved with a car restoration club. Some people have garages where you can work with a team to rebuild cars.

My car is a '90 Honda Accord. It was my Grandmother's, then my Father's, now it's mine. It's coming up on 185,000 miles and it won't die. Still gets around 24ish miles to the gallon, and goes like a bat out of heck if I need it to.

She needs a lot of work, and if I can get a job, ECONOMY FORBID, I'll get her all nice and worked on.

Go Honda hasid, you'll never regret it.
