Wow that thing actually has sound? I thought it was just one big interchangable plastic toy. Are there actually any metal parts in that box?

Well, sounds like they've added the MR style sound fonts to that kit.....I might have to get one of those and gut it!

Interesting.

So do these new sound cards also have a better LED driver? From the looks of his tests it looks like it does the ramping up and down, or did Mak add his own driver board or something on that?

That's his own driver I believe.

That Hasbro does sound pretty good. The hum and transistion is bumpy but it sounds really clear compared to the previous ones. I didn't even give that set a shot because of my previous experiences. I wonder if they could be found on sale.

That's great! I just saw one of those sets at walmart for $35.00.:D

I believe thats the normal retail price on them... $35.00

They were going at Target at that price also.

Not bad for quality sound. I wonder how easy they are to wire up and If they'll work well with a corbin driver board?

I'm glad you posted this. I over looked that in the store and now I might have to pick on up. That's really cool that they have the different sound sets.

Wow thats surprisingly good for a Hasbro...maybe now that they have the FX license they will use the FX sounds in their toys as well?...at least it sounds like that to me...I'll be waiting for when these go in the 'bargain bin' @ toysaurus...hehe

The only thing I'm wondering is if these sounds sets have any motion sensing swing sounds or clash sounds. I was in wally world today and almost bought one with the intent of gutting it, but I wasn't so sure if I should.

If it does have those two types of sounds, then I will be buying one this weekend!

Buy it and if it dont, return it (just don't gut it first).

True. I would just rather ask though than go through the trouble of buying it and having to return it if it doesn't have the features.

I was just looking at these in the store and wondering how the sound was... hmm, I may need to get one to dismantle come next paycheck...

they do have swing and clash effects, similar to MR but if I'm not mistaken the motion sensor is attatched to the LED assembly.

how did you make the window holes? Really great work!

One question: I thought hasbro sound cards needed a momentary switch to fuction properly. Yours certainly functions properly, but that didn't look like a momentary switch to me. What kind of switch are you using and where can it be found?

Again, really nice saber.

can you tell me how the sound compares to the MR? is the sound quality exactly the same? Im looking for a new sound board and the sw-616 are getting harder to find around my area

Mewgen
11-19-2008, 12:39 AM
These boards are comparable to the 616 kit, but still not as loud. I've tested these in the same echo chamber and still the MR is louder. But, the fact that this comes with Luke ROTJ sounds is awesome. Also compared the speaker from Radio shack & TCSS and I haven't noticed a difference either.

The motion sensor is also the clash, so that will have to be taken off and rewired. Be very careful when removing it as I did brake a piece off the clash sensor.

Also the switch is a momentary, but I ended up wiring it to the surface of the board. There's no hole for the switch like the regular hasbro sabers.

so if you had a choice and the price difference was only about $5-10 which of these boards would you rather have the hasbro or the 616

Hey Mew, would you be able to take a shot of the board up close to show how you soldered the switch to the board, I looked at my board for the longest time last night and couldn't grasp how that would work

Yes i also would like to know about how you soldered the new switch on... i bought a new switch to use in my girlfreidns lightsaber and can't get the bloody solder to stick to the board. Plus the switch might not be the right one since its got four different prongs +/_ and then a 1/2 or n/l which is got me all confused...

Dude, here is a picture (http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=6571) in the wiring guide that was posted last night! you need to pre-tin the contacts on the board and use a little flux first then it is a piece of cake.

I've been looking over the guide top to bottom and have been soldering for two years now... the contacts are just so bloody small that its not working...

Just spread a little flux on the conatact, and use a very fine tip soldering iron. I used a slight "swipe" motion to the side (away from the other contacts) so that I was able to control my solder better.

I was originally thinking of using a prolite RGB, like the ones from the Joe Jedi's, with this board. Here is my main problem.... The leads that are separated for RGB are all negative connections. THe common return from the LED assambly is positive. (took me about 2 hours to disconver that, because the board is maked + on these leads.)

Is there a way to power the led direct from the board? Or will I have to use three separate Drivers for the RBG led? It's really got me scratching my head.

BTW, thank for those pics, LDM, those are helpful.
