So, I got a used hilt off of ebay. Big, bad, terrible dumb mistake. I've been kicking myself for awhile now. Never, ever buy something unless you know exactly what you're spending your money on.

That said, I am missing the clash sensor on the saber. My short term goal is to get the lights working for halloween night. My long term goal is to eventually find the sensor and get everything working.

For the short term goal: Will the LED burn out if I just directly connect the board to the LED? I would just replace the sensor with a 2.2 ohm 5watt resistor. Does anyone know if this works?

First of all.... All caps and exclamation points aren't going to get your responses or solutionss any faster... It DOES, however, make you look like a panicking, pants-sh*tting noob. Take that to heart, and remember it next time.

Your clash sensor can be easily replaced. The star LED is supposed to get hooked up directly to the MR board - neither will fry, the world will not end... calm down and read the forums more.

Point taken and help appreciated, but I did spend enough money on this to warrant worrying about it- I did panic for a moment.

I looked through the forums for awhile, and couldn't find anything directly related to this specific issue- from looking at the tutorial, I'm trying to figure out if the purple and grey (based on the tutorial colors) can both be hooked up to the negative end of the LED. If so then I'm good, I can just link it up like that and put the sensor in when I can find one

Cooler heads prevail ;)

If there's no sensor there, then don't connect it to anything - wait until you find a new sensor. Grey = sensor; Purple is your positive - directly from board to LED+

post a pic. gotta be careful with e-bay. I bought 2 fried motherboards from there and gave up on that idea.

cool beans- thanks a lot guys, I'll just hook up what I have for now and make sure the grey doesn't short anything. I'll post a pic tomorrow morning when I have the saber in hand (left it at work, where all the tools are  )

Edit: ...so I just spent ten seconds looking over the diagram with a clear head, and remembered my Circuits 101: current will flow most along the path of least resistance. The clash sensor is a superflous path with a capacitor that discharges when the sensor detects clash...

(is there a smiley for hitting yourself in the head?)

You really get what you pay for at Ebay and most of the time a lot less due to the overbidding.

I brought a broken Tomy Vader plasma saber thinking I can just adapt it to use with a LED. Turned out the guy who sold me the saber must have used the board for spare parts. It was missing a few components on there which I have no idea the values of. So basically I paid money to get a empty shell.

Ebay can sometimes get you hard to get items, but for everything else you just have to pay through the roof to get.
