You need to wait a week and I will have blade holders here for the graflex.

A few on here have made them, it's in the pictures thread. I can't remember who... it was either LAN-ED-TUL or tetmatek that did one out of a real graflex.

This is simple, get the Graflex holder when it arrives (within the week[:D]) and the normal stuff required for an LED saber. The only hitch I see is the switch. You could replace the existing one with one Tim sells or you'll need to buy one elsewhere that fits under the existing switch.

EDIT: Beat by Strydur.[:D]

Tim will have the holder/adapter in stock in about 1 week to convert the graflex to led so just wait and buy it.

That's all you'll need. The quick connect isn't really needed either. If you just want a basic light-up saber that's all.

yes, i was one who built one from a real graflex. i originally used one of tims other led holders he machined down to fit. what i did for the switcyh was go to allelectronics.com, i looked up tiny lil micro switches, like the ones they solder on component boards. i got the ones with the long leads, i bent them up, since they point straight down. i had cut a couple grooves along the length of tims holder and used small wires and cut that groove deep enough to lay wires in so they would be just under flush with holder. then the tricky part, sliding the holder in the handle, i had to slip the wires into the slots i cut going throught the top red button hole. as i slid the holder in, the wires stayed in grooves. and as it got close to position, i just made sure the wires and switch were down in the opening. i used a piece of electrical tape across the bottom of switch to prevent shorting out on holder. then on button underside i used a tiny piece of craft foam, the kind wally world has with the sticky back, on that conical shaped part that comes down when you push the button. a lil trial and error to get the right amount there. when screwing the button back on, thats when you will find out if you have too much or not enough foam on there. first time it fired off on me, so i removed a lil of it, and tried again. that time i got it right. then pushing the existing, top red button, firesd off the saber. of course i was using a 8 dollar hasbro board with sound to run the led also. so the switch was a momentary one. it works great. and i also had a red button thumbscrew to use in the glass eye spot to hold the blade. so on mine, nothing looks out of place, or anything extra thats not supposed to be there. with the blade removed, i even have a core piece i made from a dowel rod and a round piece of steel, inserted in end, annd end of dowel colored black. with that in there, and red button thumbscrew tightned down on it. you cant tell the difference between it and just a regular belt hanger prop.

now with tims new graflex holder coming in, it will make the build easier to do. oh, and the lil port pins, i drilled and tapped holes in tims holder and painted the area black and screwed them in place.

tims holder will have that area already drilled and tapped for those pins. thats why im thinking of getting one myself and swapping holder out.

Yea, I'm the other guy that built one from a REPLICA with Tim's holder machined down to fit. Whoa i just read that or somthing like that. LOL Actually mine is exact in every way as the real three cell. I own the tooling to make them right down to the GRAFLEX on the clamp but LAN's is way cool since it's the real thing. I do have a real Heiland for my Vader replica. just need to get'r done lol. I use MR sound boards in mine. they are easier to get it all in since the 3 AA MR holder and speaker fit perfectly. Still looking to mass produce the replica kits though just like Tim I am at the machine shops mercy.

For the Graflex conversion, what size blade did you use? Does the 3/4" OD tube look good with Luxeon?

xwingband

It's possible but it lights up even worse than 1" up and down the blade... corbin made a comparison let's see if I can find it.[:D]

I'll edit it in. EDIT:Found it... http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=84

right now, the majority of folksare using the 1 inch poly c blades for led setups.

The three quarter inch gives in my opinion the ANH OBi look. In the vader battle the fx crew at several spots gives Ben a thin blade as if were two dimensions not round. i beleive there is a site that has been linked to show still screen shots of the blooper. I think X-wing knows the one of which i speak. I think the 1 inch is the way. it also gives more surface area to hit so you don't get a deflection you can get from a slimmer blade.

ok i got a question, i just found out thru a guy on ebay, named bill hosford, that the graflex holders were made by him and sent to Tim. i thought they were a coop deal between TGS and Corbin and Tim? but i seen a holder from this guy, and asked him about it. i said it looked like a TGS holder for el. i told him about the led ones. well, heres the reply i got, pasted from the email:

quote:
Hello, in reality I sent tim the graflex parts not jeff from the graflex shop so the el socket heads could be made I didn't know he had used that design to make the led head. I also sell corbin the red button bezels and red parts for his switch. In fact I just sent tim some brass contact pins for these heads. Small world, thanks Bill

so is this true?
