Does anybody know of any sites or anywhere on where to get cheap hasbro lightsabers to disassemble for the soundboards?

Ebay? From what I've seen, any retail places just sell them at standard retail price.

you may want to check hasbro.com as well. I picked up a small batch there. Gotta walk before I can fly (CF).

yo, jus been on the hasbro.com site and keyworded light saber which produced a good set of results,

my only issue is... which range of the hasbro sabers have the sound boards in?!

anyone know?!

thanks

EDIT....

NO wait sorry i didnt read properly!!

would these ones suffice?!

http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=ps_results&product_id=15906

http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=ps_results&product_id=15907

would all the sounds be the same or would they differ between those?!, (i would prefer sith sounds in a red saber!)

thanks

Those are the ones. They are "electronic" and thus have a little sound/light module, speaker, clash sensor, and tilt sensor. I haven't tested it yet. I did order some premium speakers from TCSS because I heard that was a good idea. I am not sure if a vibration motor can be added or if the tilt switch could be replaced with an accelerometer. The sabers themselves are $20 so I figure if I mess it up, it's not that big of a loss. I don't know if there is a ramping effect for the LED but I imagine some sort of PWM could be put in-line to make the effect. Much to learn I still have....

Man, I wish I was good at electronics.

right ok, so i may get one of those to see what its like!! the mace windu one has the vibration feature

"You can even feel the force when you ignite Mace Windu's lightsaber...it really vibrates!"

but where else can i get soundboards, like the ones everyone else is using
like ultra or crystal focus?

I may just leave it at the hasbro one as im not into spending tons of monies on my project but i also dont want a soundless saber!

but one thing that would be sorta needed would be the sounds for turn on and turn off, does anyone know if the hasbro ones have the power up/down sounds or jus the hum and clash?! and would it have swing sounds aswell?!

I spose its not the end of the world if it doesnt have the extend retract light up feature, but would you be able to wire the Luxeon driver board...

...into it maybe?!

does anyone know the best way of adding a vibration motor to the hasbro boards?

I would try wiring the motor in series with the clash -. That way when the spring makes contact it'll activate the motor. Just a thought...

I have several of the different models. I recommend the ones that have the spring activated blades. Those are tiny sound boards that can be fit just about anywhere, they have tilt sensors, and will drive a Lux III LED. I have one of the vibrating ones, and I'm not impressed with it.
The motor only works when the clash goes off. The board is much larger, and the sounds are lame.

The vibro type uses a clashing noise for the extent and retract noises while the sabres with the spring blades have proper extend/retract sounds.

All of them just blink the LED while powering on or off. There is no ramping effect.

I don't need the ramping effect but if I did these boards seem intriguing:

It may be possible to hook them up to a hasbro and utilize their PWM effect.

er...never mind..it looks like they take 6V input voltage minimum so the power coming from the Hasbro would be inadequate to drive it. Although, I suppose a power wire could run straight to it for driving the LED and then route to the Hasbro board. Man, I wish I knew more about electronics....

Those boards do not give you a ramping effect lol Its for driving multiple LED's and providing constant current

Check my post on the "Black Chelonian" and look at the video http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=6118. That is the driver I used in that saber. It is bright, but provides no effects (I didn't think that it would) I used it because it is small! You'd wire it in parallel, not in series, just like if you were using a puck or corbin driver with your hasbro board. http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?p=89957#post89957

woops..I saw this in the list of features:

PWM dimming function

I thought that is how they did the ramping effect.
