NOTE: I figured I'd turn it into a thread.

I finally got around to do a comparison for 2 of the 3 kick @ss blades in saber building, its a pretty close comparison  The Ultra blade is a bit beaten up from some hardcore dueling :p

Both LED's are Red-O's, I have no idea what the BIN is, 10* optics, both at 1400mA via Ultra Sound v1.1 and CF v3.0, they are both static blades (No flicker) and the battery's are fully charged

Erv' style thinwalled blade (Double Wrap of Corbins film and 6ft PolyP) (Left) vs. Ultra sabers Mid Grade (Thinwalled) blade (Right)

You don't know what you're missing until you try another one. There is certainly a reason I stopped using "Ultra" styled blades a while ago. ;)

Does the corbin film go inside the ultrafilm or outside it? I'm getting my butt in gear to make one of these

Outside.

wow wow now yes it apears that the "ervs style" blade looks better whiiich it does in the picture but remember in person that it shows the film alot... thats what deceives me so it depends if you like the coring or not

Maliki, you missed out a rather groovy type of blade that'll be on general release soon - Mine.....

I found a Uk supplier of the tubing & a specialist that does the filter paper. I still use Tim's blade tips, but I do love my filter paper. It's a solid looking blade, with no real coring effect, but the light disperses so evenly.

Here's the quick sneaky peak pic I have in one of my 'Graflex S-curves', taken mid afternoon, late june to give you an idea of lighting conditions:

is your new blade in polycarbonate?

I thought Han Solo was encased in polycarbonate. Man it's been so long...but..yeah give us more specifics about the blade if you can. That seems to be really nice. Did you sand it? What type of filter paper?

I gotta admit that I *USED* to like ultra blades. I thought they were so bright and even...:arrow:But now the two blades I want to get now are x-wings blades and make a Erv' style blade. Question: could I use the poly-c blades and blade tips sold in the shop to make a couple of these blades? But very nice!:D

glad to see a comparison here, especially cause I've never tried ultra blade myself. Sure, "my style" (which has been there for a while since gheluk and myself experimented mmm.... 2 years ago) combines light guide and diffusion, which is IMO the best combination.
thanks for taking the time to picture that (we're not playing at who has the longest one, but it's very informative)

Erv' - I was talking about the blades of course

I made mine. These things are amazing. Nearly as even as Xwing's nylon blade. Mine is thin walled, so no comparison pictures until I make a thickwalled one.

Han Solo was frozen in Carbonite which is a compnent of gun powder.

Did you sand the outside of the blade like Ervs Tut' says?

Lord Maul

Nope. I just put in some corbin film and the Untra film.

Yeah the sanding helps out the diffusing of the light alot. But It works better for thin walled blades.
