How exactly does the lens... go in the lens holder...?

It doesn't seem to fit. And I tried just having it rest on top but then the blade holdering didn't go in all the way. I also go the lense stuck in the lense holder (that was bad) and then it didn't fit right on top of the LED... How do you install the optics?

It is a very exacting fit... If it’s off just a little bit it won’t fit.

I put the lens on the LED while it's in the hilt.

Then I screw on the blade holder. If it gets snagged I try to reposition it with my finger via the blade opening.

You may have to unscrew it a 1/4 turn and back to get the lens to seat INTO the blade holder, but once it's in you then have to align the outer ring of the lens to the hole in the end of the blade holder.

In the end the hilt and the blade holder should fit snug up against each other.

Does the lense snap into the holder or just rest slightly?

If so, how does it stay in the lense holder and not get... crushed... by the blade holder?

The way I do it is to put the led holder into the mhs hilt or adapter then position the optics assembly onto the led then while holding everything vertical I thread the blade holder into the hilt unitil everything is snug.

No cliping, it just rests there.

It won’t get crushed. It's all made to fit perfectly.

Oh ok. Well, so far, when I screw on the blade holder... it doesn't screw all the way. I guess I need to keep trying to reposition the lense...?

Firebird21

If it won't go the last 1/8" or so it's because the lens needs to be positioned into the emitter hole.

Just loosen it just a tad, stick your finger in the blade opening and move the lens into position wile trying to tighten it. Once it's in position it will screw all the way down...

If you need more help, I'll post some pics...

Here's the scoop:

The lense has some slight little notch-thingy that's too large for the lense holder... I think. When I "rest" the lense on the holder, it is crooked and doesn't fit. Do you need to sand down that notch?

The optic holder has posts on the bottom that allow it to sit on top of the led. If the posts are sitting on part of the led leds or the wiring then it will not sit completely down and you will have to turn it until it is seated properly also if you used a really thick wire to conect to your led it may be keeping the optics from seating.

That's not the problem...

The problem is that the lense is crooked in the lense-holder. The lense-holder and the led fit perfectly.

the stock lens from the maker of the leds will snap into the lens holder.

It doesn't snap into the lense holder... at all.

I hope that at least ONE of these will help you.

If not I can take more.

Good pics. It is indeed somewhat of a bear and takes some pushing. After I screwed it in though it was fine. As long as the notches are aligned just push the darn sucker in there.[:D]

Ok, let me see if I understand this right...When trying to get the lens put into the lens holder, it is not snapping down into place correct?

If that is the case, When I got mine some time ago I had a problem with the optics too. Now the lens holder has little pegs that fit down into the star LED, after which the lens fits (cone down) into that mount with its little pegs going into the notchs in the mount. One side of the lens has a triangular peg and the other a little flat peg. The mount has two nothces for these to fit into. If trying to lock it in place by hand it doesnt always work, its more of a press fit. On mine the little flat peg wouldnt fit into either if the notches quite right so I shaved it very, very slightly till it would, the triangular one fit fine. After that I set the mount onto the LED and then set the lens (cone down) onto the mount aligning the nocthes and pegs. Then put the heatsink/LED/optics assembly into the blade hoder and pressed together to get it all to lock in place.

Here is a quick paint rendering to show how it goes together in case of confussion-http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c35/scaarmor/Opticshelp.jpg

I hope I understood you correctly and this helps...

When I built my first saber I had to really push to get the optics to lock into the holder. Just make sure the tab on the optic is lined up with the notch on the holder. Another thing that happened to me was that when I placed the holder on the led I did not position it correctly and it would not set down on the LED. If you look on the bottom to the holder it has a channel for the leads from the LED emitter. If you dont line up the channel over the leads is wont sit flat.

Edit - scaarmor beat me to the punch and did a much better explaination of what I was trying to say.

AWESOME!! thanks guys, the problem is that the peg is to big, i'm gonna need to grind it down a bit to get it to fit into place correctly, the pics were a big help!

actually yes. the holder has tiny clips on it, and the lens snaps onto the top of holder and it stays there. you have to work it easily, so as not to break the tabs off, but once its seated it wont come loose.and ive always been able to snap them together by hand. now the holder itself just sits over the lux with the lil pegs resting in the cutouts. you do have to have this lined up exactly or it will not seat down all the way. and it has to clear on the sides with the nylon bolts that hold lux to heatsink.

First post here, so I would just like to say hello to everyone! This is my first saber project, and I am experiencing the same issue in regards to the optics not wanting to sit in the optic holder properly.

I have the same two tabs on the optics, but they do not want to fit into the notches of the optic holder. Should I remove them? There are two clips on the optic holder, so that should hold them in place I would imagine, but I wanted to know if anyone else has the optics with the tabs and what they did to secure to the optics holder.

you shouldnt have to remove anything. it takes some patience and some strong fingers to get it seated./ mine have always been a bear to get seated, but i always manage it finally. keep tryin.

Yes, it is quite the bear to get down. If you are using Tim's holder try setting it and rotate only the bottom piece when you screw it together. The tolerances are tight so it will in all likelyhood pop them in there better than you could with your fingers.

The last batch of holders seems to be a tad tighter than normal. I trim the notch out a bit more and then they work fine.

Hey all.
I've noticed variance in the holders from time to time. I've also noticed that the 5 degree lenses often are harder to fit into the holders than the 10 degree ones are.
Using a MHS to tighten it down often pops the lens in place. I've also set the lens face down on a flat surface and tried putting the holder down onto it. That often works well. Trimming out the notches helps too.
