purple led

Ok I have built a custom saber and am ready to buy the parts, but I want my blade to be purple. I was going to order the luxeon k2 kit but it does not have purple. I know I can make it white then use Tim's colored discs, but I do not think that it will light up very well. Any suggestions?

From what I have read there are very few options when it comes to purple.
You can use a white LED with a filter, I have read of people using Tims and other people ordering a swatch book from Lee Flters both with varied success based on what LED you use and what filters are involved. The loss of brightness is usually the case to some extent (from what I have read so far)

The other choice you have is an RGB set up but from what I understand that way is more involved and requires a little more experience with wiring.

There is a TON of posts around on this topic and I would encourage you to take some time and poke about, there are some great ideas on how to obtain a nice purple, you just have to have the patience and find what you seek.

(Side Note - Use the P4 if you are gonna use filters, it is super bright!)

The current best options are to use a seoul p4 with a couple of purple discs or a lee filter. It will be VERY bright, and you will like it if you like purple. the other choice is to buy a RGB rebel and run the red and blue leds (r+b=purple) you can run a potentiometer on the red and/or blue and adjust the hue of purple as well if you were so inclined. I did that on my purple blade. I'll add a pix below.

First off I wanted to thank all of you for replying and I just had a quick question. Should I just get the luxeon 3 kit with the seoul p 4. Or should i still buy the K2.

For your basic kit no sound yea go with the 3. The k2 kit is too much powa. For sound though i just run mine off the sound board.

Yes (on the luxIII kit & p4) and no (on the K2).

Go with the P4. Same power requirements as a Lux III, yet leaps and bounds brighter.

ya p4 is the brightest purple u can get with those requirements
