Great Idea with having the tools in-store. When I need a replacement bit I'll pick it up here.

how hard would it be to make up some of those jigs for the vader saber to remove the pins with. like the one you said you made to press on the pin head and washer to relive the pressure against that lil pin. that would be a big help. i'd get one myself. anyone doing the vader converts would really find this useful tim.

Tim how about doing a tool want list similar to the t-shirt poll and then stock the most requested tools.

Any specialty tool would be welcome as well as maybe some of the tools that may not be common to the regular Joe trying to build their first saber. I love my Jensen Precision Screwdrivers and Allendrivers but I also used to spend all day wiring up control panels with micro-terminals so I take it for granted that everyone has something better than an L-wrench or small slotted screwdriver.

The dental tools may be another good one since again it may not be something that is in the standard homeowners tools and hey, if you have it we can order it. [:D]

A pipe cutter like you use would be good. I have one as well, but the wheel isn't big enough to cut through the 1/8" wall, so I had to hack saw it after a while.

Tim a soldering iron and small packs of solder might be a good addition to your store. Most people don't own a soldering iron and have to try and find one and in some places this can be difficult to find.

if anyone has a wally world close by they have a 30 watt soldering iron back in the auto section along with the solder. the irons run a few bucks and the solder 2 or 3 bucks.

That would probably help out, but I wouldn't settle for one that wasn't top notch. He'd also be stuck stocking tips of that iron, so the choice better be good.[xx(]

EDIT: Wild idea, stock the heavy duty cutoff disks for dremels???

Here, here! I've also heard some concerning questions from aspiring Jedi's (my friends here at school) that always ask me what is in the kit. I personally think that the kit should have an all-inclusive option for the hoplessly lost like I was in the beginning. You know, an option to add tap and dye sets, dremel kits, say maybe thumb screws (I still haven't gotten mine!)!!![:D][:D][:D]

Anyways I love your shop Tim, thanks for taking our advice to help out your shop. If I'd found this place now instead of before Christmas, I would have had a much easier time because of all the things you and x-wing have done! Keep up the good work![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

A short length of heat shrink tubing would also be very good, that way we could eliminate the need for tape on wiring conections and it would make them much stronger. Some short peices of wire would be a nice addition to the saber kits, most people don't have wire just lying around. This store can really become a one stop shopping for all your saber needs, kinda like the 6 million dollar man, we have the tools and we have the technology to build sabers.

Woo Hoo! good group of tool add ons. I have been tossing back and forth on the wire strippers since I use my dikes for everything. Time to start another order I reckon.

I have those wire strippers. They work very well. But I would also suggest the front cutting strippers too as they tend to work better when you have little wire to work with.

It realy doesn't matter unless you have less than an inch to work with.

Have you found a dealer for the Hotglue-Heatshrink yet? That's good stuff!!! "Worth" is the only place I've seen it, but I haven't looked too hard.

Tim,

I like the accessories pack you have available for the Dremel as well as the cut-off wheels.. those are awesome and the price is good too.

I'll ask this here as I am not certain where else to ask.. but could some of the more experienced Saber Builders post a tool list? Something that us Newbies can perhaps look at and save ourselves some of the time and error of guessing. Keep in mind that not all of us know the tools. I for one am clueless about such things... I do not work with tools and own very little.

A list of "I wouldn't build a saber without these tools" would be so handy. Maybe, just maybe, Tim could toss together a Basic tool kit based on the lists? Hmmm?
1 Dremel with accessories kit
2 cut-off wheel kits
1 box band-aids[:0]

What else do I need?

"Do you know how to use one of these?"
"Yes. The pointy end goes into the other man."

What tools will I need to make my hilt?
There are many tools. This topic is applicable to EL and LED for any hilt:

Thanks X-Wing... I figured there was no "definative list" as different saber designs will need different tools... however, I guess I am looking for something like Vadeblade posted.

Assume I have nothing.. what would I need for a simple EL Saber. Hope that helps. The ongoing tutorial about the Graflex is helping a lot because I can see how the tools are being used.

Here is a list of tools that I have and it works for me.

Dremel & assorted disks and sanding drums
Solder iron & solder
Pair of side cutters (wire cutters)
Screw drivers
Allen wrenhes
Pliers
Drill & drill bits
Taps & Tap handle
Small file & sandpaper

Tim now stocks most of these tools and his prices are good so just add them on to your order. You can add tools as you go but this should get you set up with the basics.

That's the truth! Although polycarbonate face shields are really the best. Safety glasses only shield your eyes. Granted, that's the most important thing, but high-speed dremel shrapnel will probably hurt a bit if you catch it in the chin.
