View Full Version : Hehe.... breaking the 1K lumen barrier

I was responding to a post in Saber sound and did some math....

Since the LEDEngin LED is physically the same as any star, it could be mounted in a Tri-Lux setup. At 530 lumens per LED, you'd get 1590 lumens for green. Owwwie! How to dissipate 52.8 watts of heat, though? LOL.

Any color (Or combo of colors) could be used the same way.

Anyway, figured I'd post it in the new tech forum for folks to chew on.....

i think yous have to ask acerocket if he could even set up the ledENGIN in a tri lux setup.

Ace is busy at the moment and it would be easyer to mount rebels in a try lux configuration.

Anyone could make a "tri-lux". Ace just machined a really nice setup for it that mounted a three with the optics very secure.

Also, just because it has a power of 50W doesn't mean it's making 50W of heat... it certainly would be hot but that number doesn't equal the heat it produces.

Ace's Tri-Lux set-up also used emitters, not stars.

Ahhh.. I didn't know it was using the emmitters and not the whole star. I thought he was using 3 stars and optics on it.

I'll have to go back and look at his setup.... now all the sudden I don't get how the optics were done, LOL.

Man thats a purdy setup!

Someday I will have a trirebel in aces housing.

Whatever happened with that Ace? I remember following the thread and updates closely, and I know you moved, but... did you eventually abandon the project?

Yes and no. I still have the blanks to make 50 of them, but when the tri-rebels came out, people's interest in them pretty much died out. To bad the tri-rebels never really caught on and a decent optic was not introduced. One other problem was that these are a 1.25" od unit and most people don't want something that big - everyone asked if I could make it fit a 1" bore (the answer is still NO). If people are still interested, then maybe someday I will revisit them.

Well, now we have the Rebels with a CR@P optic, how about mounting 3 rebels with there single optics on there, will it work? Because I think it would gain plenty of interest. Another thing is with the Rebels size, a more compact version could be put together?

Do you have a link for the rebel optics? My understanding was the ones I have in the unit now are the smallest optics available (just about .5" in diameter).

Heres the link: http://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Power-Supply/Polymer-Optics/Polymer-Luxeon-Rebel-lense-6%B0-diffused-LT-1239_106_108.html

As you can see the specs say:
Height:11.35mm
Length:17.55mm
Depth: 15.20mm

But the thing is, Rebels work with the standard optics, but NOT the standdard optic mounts, so the optics you use should be ok

Can you come up with something? :D

well i found a reflector like what ultra uses that i belive would work for a rebel star.http://carclo-optics.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=41&osCsid=310b85860731f0c768b1dff9ef8b837f and i dont know if corbin had shared this with you yet ace but in hopefully 3 weeks i will have an my hand this http://lumileddriver.com/RebelCircles/CirclePinAssignmentLarge.jpg im hoping that the optics shared above may be able to be reworked in a trilux setup to work with it.
