Wow these "random grab bags" go extremly fast... I was waiting around to see if one came up. I hit refresh and there was a new one. By the time I tried to look at it and then put it in my cart it was already gone. I guess I shouldn't have tried to look at it huh. ;)

When the winners get them, post some good descriptions on what's in them. I'm really wanting one of those pieces with the swirly circle design on it, Is that an emitter?

Hopefully Tim will let us know when it's done so we can stop refreshing our browsers. :D

Yeah I give up on this. I've been sittin here reloading the site every 3 mins since 8:30 central time yesterday and I've missed every one of them. Haven't even gotten close enough to get one in a cart, by the time I see em up there, they are sold already. I love you Tim, but this was a cruel way to do this.

I know your frustration. I've been trying to think of another way of doing it, and I'm drawing a blank. I think the way Tim is doing it offers the most even chance. Since it's not a set schedule, none of us have a specific edge apart from our Mouse-Click Kung Fu.
It might not hurt as much if there were no pictures, but we want to know what we're buying.

Strydur
09-09-2008, 01:27 PM
I was almost thinking of not putting the pics anymore since everyone is buying them without even looking it seems. It was do it this way or ebay again. When I did that everyone complained because they couldn't afford them. At least this way everyone has a sporting chance.

I wish the website had someway to better control more than one person getting it in their shopping cart as I hate to refund someone and tell them they didn't win.

Darth Leximus
09-09-2008, 01:27 PM
I guess you're right, but the pics don't even seem to matter, no body has time to look at the pics before they buy it, someone else would scoop it up while you were browsing

EDIT:

I guess Tim beat me to it. I just wanted to clarify that I like this idea of selling the imperfect pieces in bulk like this, I sure know I could find uses for most if not all of those pieces. I also don't think it's unfair in anyway, I just don't see how I could of been more vigilant in keeping up with the store to see when they were released, and I didn't even come close to gettin one in my cart.

ArkaiHalon

The blade holders with the little circle thing on them. They have two horizontal vanes near the top.
In the grab bag 7 pic, they're the two pieces under the Psycho Lime choke.

Were those an old holder you discontinued or a test that didn't work out? They're really cool looking.

I agree, 8 looked alittle shy of the others, mind you it did have 3 of the standard center sections and they can be expensive. My bet is we won't see more than 10 Grab bags (although I hope for everyone's sake I am wrong).

Does anyone have any Idea what the green cirlular things are? they look like small green PCB boards connected together on the original spur. They are in the upper right on the number 8 grab bag, there is one spur with 3 of them on it (looks like originally there was 4, but the second from the top has been removed).

I was looking at the specs: 3.6V - 4.5V... And they even suggest you use one Li-Ion! :o go figure!, they must have been sick of listening to novastar too :p... anyway, with voltage that low, may as well direct drive.

Specs are nice and all, but my question still stands. Do you just wire it into a circuit like a resistored setup? , or is there something that I am completely missing, aka a link to a pdf or something?
So far all that I've picked up is that the positive to the LED is soldered in the middle of the board between the two diodes, and the Negative to the LED is soldered to the round pad at the leg of the IC chip Q2. Which pads are batt input?

Bah, its impossible to get one of these grab bags. Was looking for parts to get some ideas going but every time I look at these grab bags someone has already brought them.

Also, is that a 1.25" plastic sink tube at the bottom?

He's had enough plain hilt number 1's that can easily be cut down into adapters (thats my plan with mine anyway, thanks to Obi-dar for the Idea)

I got my grab bag today, and I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with it!

Most of the problems with the parts I got were cosmetic. Nothing a little wet sanding and polishing couldn't fix. I'm even going to try to find some aluminum tubing from Online Metals to fit the Ani blade holders and attempt a Graflex style saber.

I got one long 1" blade that is a little messed up on one end, but if I cut 2" off, it will be the same length as my other blades. I got a short, red EL blade that I'm going to gut for the EL wire to decorate a Sith saber I'm planning, and two short 1" blades that will be perfect for the double ended PVC saber I'm going to make for a kid I know.

There was a large piece of white pipe, probably a little bigger than 1.5" ID, that I have no idea what to do with, but that's OK. I'm pretty happy with what I got.

Obi-Dar, if you find a tube to fit the Anakin blade holder, PM me. I have been looking for a week. 34mm ID tubes seem impossible to find.

White pipe could also be used for a sled, a little snug but it could work. I got my first one last week, God it was like Christmas unwrapping all that stuff. I get more on Thursday and cant wait.

Got mine yesterday, and it was like christmas. Everything looked pretty good, gotta fix and clean up some threads and had a couple knicks here and there, but nothing a little sanding and elbow grease can't fix. From my haul I'm planning a Storm trooper saber, and a saber staff, plus for giggles I'm gonna make an all choke point saber.

What are the dimensions of that thing in Grab bag 41? Can it fit a 1" blade holder? Whats the inner and outer diameter of the tube? how long is each handle?

Can it be adapted with MHS holders? or would it need a sink tube blade holder?

xwingband
09-24-2008, 10:56 AM
That thing is a whole saber...

I din't know the details, but it would be reasonable to assume that the hilt already has the blade holding part built in. I also so think it's whole... why would you want to MHS adapt it? If you liked only part of it you could probably get custom work for a similar price (or cheaper).

MoonDragn
09-24-2008, 11:04 AM
Well, the text says it was picked up off Ebay and does not have electronics. That means it may not have the necessary parts to fit in there for the Luxeon holder and heat sink. That mean you need to figure out how to fit one in. It would be easier to fit a premade blade holder in there. Also if the inner diameter inside is only 1" to hold the blade and theres no way to get access to the inside of the handle, it would make putting the electronics in there difficult. Thats why I asked about the dimensions.

Titanium isn't exactly the easiest material to cut into either if it does not have enough room and need to be enlarged.

Strydur
09-24-2008, 12:30 PM
One side I enlarged to hold a 1" blade. The other side is still setup for a 3/4". The inner tubes have a lot of room in them. I will keep lowering the price every once in awhile until it sells as I just dont see myself ever getting around to doing anything with it.

MoonDragn
09-24-2008, 12:33 PM
Heh thanks for answering the question but I guess someone already decided to get it. Oh well.

I would have had a hard time enlarging the other end anyway.

It was me that got Grab bag 41! ;)

I was buying stuff for a couple of sabers I'm working on and saw it, I just couldn't help myself.

I should be able to work my magic on it. It will be another nice saber to add to my ever growing collection.

I love that gold/tan section in GrabBag #43. I'd love to see those become a standard item, but I bet the curved bits are a pain to carve out on the machines.

Moordak

It's kind of ironic that that piece was on there. On a saber I'm trying to visualize I want to get some curved lines cut like that on the hilt section. I wasn't sure if Tim could do it but it appears it's possible.

Got my grab bag today, and I have to say I'm mostly happy. I am a bit confused about a few of the parts I got though. One of the parts I got looks like a Garlend EL adapter, but isn't the same as whats pictured in the store...Here's a picture of the part. I have two and no clue what to do with them:

I had the luck/stubbornness/help of family/friends to win a few of these. I do not want to offend/insult tcss but I am willing to part with some of the pieces, I am not looking to make a profit or even money, I would prefer to trade for stuff, so like cosmetic pieces, doo dads, grip materials, that sort of stuff. I have a decent supply of the anakin blade holders, and the choke pieces, and some EL holders, as I have no plan to venture into EL any time soon I am willing to part with all of those. Again I apologize if this is unwanted or not allowed.

PS, I received several pieces in the lots that I dont really know what they were intended for and am looking for some help identifying them, I can snap some pics if needed, but basically I am curious about:

white plastic tubes, plumbing type, with one end flared larger, about 1" in diameter

metal strips about 4 inches long, 1/4 inch wide, 1/16 inch thick, I thought maybe as grip or spacers for applying rubber grips, or shims for inside, idk

lastly, a little oragish punch, like some sort of scrapbooking tool to punch out a circle, I thought perhaps it was to make the filter for LEDs from Lee books or something, but its too small of diameter, like 1/2 inch circle, not large enough to stay in/cover all of lens.

ty all for any help/offers

Lord Maul
11-24-2008, 09:13 PM
The metal strips are for the MHS slotted double female extension. Other than that I have no clue what you've got

okies, got time to take some pics the other day when I took pics of my last 3 sabers I made

here are the metal strips which maul said are for grooved hilt sections, I have about 50 of them I think:
http://www.clanriotsquad.com/images/starwars/Saber44.jpg

Here are the plastic tubes, theyre really thin walled, dont think they can be used for pvc sabers, so still not sure what they were used/stocked for, have 3 of those:

Anakin blade holder, have like 12:

Choke pieces, have like eighty gajillion of those... ok its like 18:

EL blade holders, dont plan to use el for any blades, like 5 of these:

ahahahaa

when i got the last of the grab bags in the mail i decided to see what i could build with them, so i put hilts and pommels and chokes and emitters together to make as many sabers as possible, the result was i believe 11 hilts and 2 double ended hilts, all at once, never tried making a staff though... ya know, saber staff with a giant exposed crystal chamber = gandolfs staff...

12-03-2008, 11:23 PM
Yes, that pvc part is called a tail piece. Try inserting into a regular MHS section - it should fit dang-near perfectly! ;) I've used them a lot and they're perfect for making internal structures, sound board sleds, resonators... just about anything that you need a secure fit for. Good stuff! :)

aside from not know what it was all for on some of the weird pieces, and tim cleaning out his desktop/junk drawer into one of them... still no clue why I got a scapbooking punch... yea its all great, most of it I couldnt even find a scratch or dent on it and threads were great, others mainly had dirty or knicked threads that were fixed with a little filefu

What size was the punch? If it was between 1/2" to 7/8" it may have been for cutting color disks out of Lee filters. I'm going to be looking to get one of those myself.
