I'm going to say this before X-Wing yells at you. read the forums everything you could possibly need to know is in there.

Is that your lightsaber or are you happy to see me?

All you need is exactly what it says in the kit's description: LED, lens, and lens holder. There are different options on each which is why he doesn't have them all in the kit.

Go under LED Hilt Supplies and then Electronics/LED. It's all there. Pick your color LED and angle of lens.

EDIT: At this point I'm not getting angry over this stuff, it's just depressing when it's right there and it tells you what you need.

I'm just saying you've been angry over this before. I don't blame you either, some people are plain lazy.[V]

Is that your lightsaber or are you happy to see me?

I wouldn't always say it's lazyness. The first impulse is to make a post when you don't know, especially with the electronics stuff. I don't see too many how do a cut the tube posts, LOL. I added this question to the FAQ BTW. No, I didn't make a big list of parts but I merely said check the index and read the tutorials until it's ingrained in your head.[:)]

EDIT: OMG! Read the FAQ (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=552)

I think that's the number 1 reason why it is so important to read the tutorials and discussions in detail. I started browsing the site before the tutorials and everything was setup under usernames and logins, however I didn't order or start posting untill I read through every thing I could and have a strong idea of what I wanted to do and what was needed. Everyone here is really awsome and more than willing to help out when your stuck and we all like shooting ideas around, heck isn't that the point of this forum. It's just a little frustrating when some of the same questions get asked and of course the first response that comes to mind is: didn't you read the d@^! directions. [:D]

Dude, there's no reason to run off. These questions have been asked and I put them in the FAQ for a reason. I do get a little peeved at those questions, but understand that I went to some work to make it even easier to find your answers than posting. Now do the curtesy of reading it and don't get all miffed when we answer you that way.

In xwingband’s defense, he has been working very hard on the FAQ and Thread Index for at least the past 2 weeks. And he is very busy with school and has little free time to do it, but he does it anyways. I don’t blame him for getting aggravated with these questions popping up even after all his hard work.

That being said… xwingband… you are coming off a little sharp and as I understand why and don’t blame you, I think you really hurt this guy.

Hurt is an overstatement lol. I had this idea that the shop and the forums were run by a certain type of business minded people, but after hearing the comments and reactions to my noobness I would just say that I’m not offended or running away; more so, that I’m just avoiding any unnecessary interactions.

Again, I'm sorry if you were hurt by what I said. There are good people here and to cut yourself off would be a mistake. Don't take my words the wrong way, I don't mean any harm by them. Don't ever let my actions reflect on Tim and the shop either. I may be a mod of one forum but that doesn't make me the god of sabers and a right to be a complete jerk (and I hope it doesn't seem that way).

Perhaps you can start by telling how to make this more apparent. I've been working on a FAQ and Index in addition to all the tutorials. What more would make these "n00b" questions more apparent? I suspect we will always have to whip some people for not even bothering to look, but my main goal is to facilitate the sharing of ideas and keeping these types of questions to a minimum would help.

In the kit description it's very precise about the extra parts you need to buy, but has no hint to where it would be found on the site. I mean, hilt supplies > electronics/led would take some guess work. If your shopping isn't generated by a script and you can add links to the description a link to the actual product might take a lot of confusion out of this. Those are my two cents; speaking as a web designer.

Cool, that's Tim's realm (the store design) but it'll get passed along. We were talking about a hilt designer at one point and he said he could have the options reload on the same page so maybe the same could be tested and implemented here.

I added the led, lens, and holder as a option when ordering the kit.

I've also tried to pass some info onto Tim about how "confusing" some things can be. Speaking as someone who wouldnt know the first thing about sabers unless I was married to him. I'm trying to explain that there are people out there like me, who might have a kid who says " I want that " but wouldnt know the first way to approach it.

We've been working on trying to get things easily accessible to the average Joe or Jill just out to attempt something completely new, with no experience with tools or electronics.

Keep giving us your feedback on what seems confusing, Tim is doing his best to get it all straight, and user friendly. He tends to have a bit of a mechanical brain and thinks everyone "gets it" ... I've been trying to correct this genius complex !!!! [;)]

Feedback is important, but please, pass along the word gently to the noobs like me, that xwings FAQ is our best resource at this point.

yes, xwing has worked his tail off creating those FAQ's for tims site. he has done a tremendous job so far. theres a lot more that can be done, and it will get done too. but it does take some time to get it done. so we gotta be just a lil easy on the new folk. we all know theres some who dont know anything about buliding these things until they happen upon tims site and see whats what here, and say, cool i wanna try this. untill the FAQ's get done, we will have to all remain patient, dont get so upset, trust me, it aint worth it, i've had a couple of close calls on here myself lately. its just not worth getting all bent out of shape over. and this point also goes out to the so called."NEWBS" you need to have some patience with the folks here as well. discussions, idea sharing, and helping others to construct sabers is what we are all here for in the first place.

so peace, goodwill, and may the force be with all of us!!

When I first found this site I read everything that I could before asking questions so it made it easier to ask the right questions to get the information I needed. With the index that Xwing is doing and the FAQ section this makes it a lot easier to sort through the forum and find the information that you need. There is wealth of information here on building sabers and it will continue to grow as we all learn and contribute.
