I know overdriving has been talked about but is 1400 to a Cyan Lux V just TOOOOOOOO much or what I'm not worried about heat I have all the metal I need and can make a bigger heatsink if needed.I'm just worried if it will just die on me or something.

I'd say that 1400 is too much. That's double what the target mA rating is. You can safely over-drive to a point, but double is too far.

It would probably be very bright for a few seconds... then it would go very dark.

Additionally, "over-driving" is only useful to a point. When you start to go too far:

* you don't notice much of a brightness increase vs. how much amperage you have to send...

* sometimes, over-driving doesn't help at ALL!!

But I would say something like 20% to 40% (max) would yield some results for most LEDs. But really... it depends.

but he might get a cool effect of light and smoke, lol

Paying 20 somthing bucks for a cyan smoke show isnt worth it.I was asking because I thought I had a 1000ma driver around here but it seems to have "magically" up and left (looking funny at my little brother) now all I have is 1400 drivers but oh well.

Hmm. You MIGHT still be able to salvage it for the Lux V by adding in some kind of way to "pulse" the current to it, or simply limit it... but... yeah, it might be best to leave this driver for a Luxeon III Red/Red-O/Amber.

I agree that "wasting" a $23 LED... vs. a $6 or $8 one... is apples to oranges, hahahah. :D

No I meant paying 20 bucks and hooking up the wrong driver only to get a mini smoke and light show instead of a working blade isnt worth it.I was saying o well as in o well I have to order another driver instead of being able to use the ones I have.
